What makes this a great store is that they're open 24/7. They aren't a huge store but they do offer more than most stores with a selection of shelf stable food items and a wall of refrigerated food items, including a cooler or two of ice cream etc. You can get milk, cheese, frozen dinners and ice cream. They carry the standard stuff for a CVS. I find it harder to locate things in this store despite the aisle signs. So melatonin is semi-hidden and not anywhere near the vitamins or supplements. They seem to have a larger supply of cosmetics than other locations I've been in. The pharmacy hours are very reasonable. They don't have a drive thru which would be nice. My interaction with pharmacy staff so far has been pretty basic -- not particularly helpful but they weren't outright rude either (which is becoming more common w pharmacy staff as work conditions are deteriorating). They had no cashier at any of the registers at 6pm on a busy Saturday night. They have 3-4 self checkouts that were open and needed to be used. There was a line to checkout. I gave up trying to use a coupon on an item because I needed to leave and couldn't wait for help to magically appear. The checkout I was at didn't allow for cash back when using a debit card. That was unusual and disappointing. Maybe one of the other registers does have that feature but you'd have to study the signage around the checkout area (which is very cramped and has a lot of information posted all around it). If you have the CVS app, you can order items online and then just go in to pick them up. If you're not getting a prescription, that'd be my suggestion. The parking lot is free and is a busy area. At night it is lit but it would be better if it was brighter. Because it is close to downtown Nbpt there are certainly folks on foot and bikes so be careful. This is one of the only CVS' that I will actually go into. For some reason, the customers at many of them are just not pleasant people. Why they attract stressed out, rude, and/or annoyed customers I don't know but that's been my CVS experience and part of the reason I took my prescriptions and business elsewhere. Life is hard enough without having a stressful experience for simple pharmacy/convenience store shopping. You shouldn't need to do breathing exercises in your car because you have to grab a bottle of Tylenol!! lol read more

I waited 15 minutes in my car on the pick up line, when I got the the window they physically closed the blind on me and would NOT let me pick up my prescription. I was out of my prescription and needed it that day. I went inside to talk to a "manager" who did not give me a solution to the problem and barely appoligized, just told me to keep my voice down. Just wanna give a shout-out to whatever employee parks in the "families with young children" parking spot, daily. It's a red SUV. IDGAF where I park I don't mind walking with my baby because I'm not disabled and honestly need the exercise I just find it in poor taste for an employee to park there when it's NEWBURYPORT aka there are plenty of spots close to the door. And also? What about the mom who just had a c-section who wants to park there To pick up her RX after giving birth ?? Stop being lazy. I've been using this location for years. Seems like there are a lot of entitled whiners here. This store serves a massive area and, like every other place right now, have trouble staffing occasionally. Note this review is for the PHARMACY...people should specify! Perhaps because I go on the off times (not at lunch, not at 2:30 when schools let out, not between 5 and 7 pm) I rarely have a line. I can't say enough about the help the pharmacists have given me...even when they are slammed, which is most of the time. RE VACCINES...seriously, think about it...just because there is no line does NOT mean they have time to stop everything just for you! Scheduling ahead of time gives them time to FILL PRESCRIPTIONS without interruptions. Could you just walk into your doctor's office and say "Hey, I want a shot now"??? Not sure if they are open? I'm not typically a big review writer but I'm doing this because my father has been living with us since he has become quite ill and is a "frequent flyer" at the Pond Street CVS pharmacy. First I will say that I have to go often to this store also, and the service is beyond what I would have ever expected according to what I've experienced in other pharmacies but the real reason I am writing is because of a particular employee who stands out above the rest. His name is Chris and I believe he is a pharmacy technician-(Although I have seen him helping out in other areas of the store.) Chris is a kind and helpful person who has really made a difference for my elderly father. Dad will come home and say "I saw my friend today at the pharmacy and he asked how you guys are" or Chris helped me get my medication sorted out today" . He simply goes above and beyond to make people's day and I'll tell you-it makes a difference. And most importantly for an elderly man who's most exciting part of the day is getting out with his cane to the pharmacy. Chris, thank you for making my dad feel so important. read more

Went there the other day with a relative who was picking up a prescription and shopping for some items they needed. Heads up for anyone who goes into the stores: Some employees were not wearing masks. There was one woman particular working the floor in the cosmetics area, interacting with customers at close distances, not wearing a mask. When a customer asked about it, she said something like "It's OK, I only work in the cosmetics area, I'm not around people" AS she was standing a few feet from 2 customers, and minutes after she had been speaking face to face ... with some emotion ... at another customer. If this is the kind of "Health and Safety" standards this CVS has these days, people should know before they go in there. No one at the location waiting and they will not give me a flu shot. Made me look online which I did and you cannot make an appointment for at least two days. So I called and asked if I could come in and get a flu shot and they will not take me as a walk in when they know who I am and with no one getting a flu shot at all. Great service as always at CVS. I was returning from a Boston hospital for an extremely difficult 4 hour back surgery , I was in the hospital for 4 days.My ride home over bumps was extremely long and painful. My prior round of meds were wearing off and my 11" incision was leaking blood.I live alone in Newburyport so I took the opportunity to stop at Cvs to stop the onslaught of extreme pain. I used my cane to make my way in line to process and fill my pain prescriptions. My turn up , I noticed the waiting area completely full.I asked the pharmacist if she could expedite my 3 prescriptions,she with attitude chastised me for asking and that 8 people were ahead of me to just sit down and she said that I was slowing her down by talking.I explained that I could not sit as my back was covered with blood..I waited approximately 25min till she whispered my name .Walking out I told my story to the nodding out head pharmacist and he supported his girl..My advice ..GO ELSEWHERE!! read more

This CVS is an excellent store. They have everything you need and in stock. The pharmacy is fast and efficient and has always taken all the time I have needed to have my medications explained to me. After filling my perscriptions for years at this pharmacy they Changed the NDC# for one of my perscriptions making the generic drug charged as a brand name. This caused my copay to rise from $0.00 to $100.00! After contacting them several times about the issue and having my insurance company(aetna) and their parent company (CVS caremark) contacting them to alert them of the error they still refused to correct it. In fact they told me to go somewhere else to have this generic persciption filled. I now have them delivered through the mail by CVS caremark using the correct NDC# and my copay remains at $0.00. Please aviod or at least challange them when they arbitrarilly change NDC#'s to get a higher reimbursement and copay by illegally changing NDC#s and then refusing to correct errors.
