As to be expected in a store like this some of the stuff is crap but other stuff is pretty nice. Nothing really nice but sometimes pretty nice is nice enough. Inside is crowded and chaotic. Always seems a lot of people in here and it's difficult to move around. Takes a bit of patience but it's not too bad. It tends to over flow with stuff so they put some of it out in front on the sidewalk. Gives it a pleasantly tacky look. One of the things they really advertise are the 25 cent hot dogs. I would never get the courage to actually try one and I suspect they aren't exactly the highest quality but just seeing the price is kind of cool. The prices inside on most of the stuff inside is dirt cheap. I got some six buck T-shirts that didn't even shrink five sizes when I washed them. This place is exactly what it seems. It is an anachronism that manages to survive in a rather expensive and ritzy town like Newburyport just be being itself. The staff have always been pleasant and helpful even in middle of all the crazy activity that is going on. It's a cheap place that has lots of cheap but decent stuff. All kinds of weird and quirky things and always messy. Just the type of place that I enjoy

I could not have imagined that the outcome of that sad day would be this wonderful shop.... it has all of the White Hen neighborhood goodness and so much more. First, although it's not open 24/7, it's open very early (at 5 AM) and serves customers until 11 PM, so they are able to meet the needs of the early morning coffee bingers, late night food cravings, and everything you've come to expect from your neighborhood grocery-sandwich place.. You can get groceries - all the typical convenience store items - plus wine and beer, coffee, coffee, and more varieties of coffee, pastries and assorted fresh sweets, a couple of soup offerings, sandwiches (ready made or made to order), salads, and some of the best paninis in the Port City. I always get the roast beef panini (I think it's #6) and for the extra few dollars, go for the gold and order the large one. It's twice the size (literally) of the "half" for a very little bit more $$, and enough for two generous meals. In fact, it's so large, they actually wrap it in two separate packages. You can share with a lunch mate or enjoy it two days in a row. They heat up beautifully in the microwave too, btw. Friendly, family owned and operated, if you patronized White Hen, you'll see some familiar faces. And when you need that pretzel fix, you can get that and a sandwich long after every other sandwich shop has rolled up the sidewalk in front of their doors. I gave it a 5 only because that's the max you can give on Yelp. but if I could have, I'd have given them a 10. It was truly a delightful surprise to find the Pond Street White Hen reincarnated here!

They carry the standard stuff for a CVS. I find it harder to locate things in this store despite the aisle signs. So melatonin is semi-hidden and not anywhere near the vitamins or supplements. They seem to have a larger supply of cosmetics than other locations I've been in. The pharmacy hours are very reasonable. They don't have a drive thru which would be nice. My interaction with pharmacy staff so far has been pretty basic -- not particularly helpful but they weren't outright rude either (which is becoming more common w pharmacy staff as work conditions are deteriorating). They had no cashier at any of the registers at 6pm on a busy Saturday night. They have 3-4 self checkouts that were open and needed to be used. There was a line to checkout. I gave up trying to use a coupon on an item because I needed to leave and couldn't wait for help to magically appear. The checkout I was at didn't allow for cash back when using a debit card. That was unusual and disappointing. Maybe one of the other registers does have that feature but you'd have to study the signage around the checkout area (which is very cramped and has a lot of information posted all around it). If you have the CVS app, you can order items online and then just go in to pick them up. If you're not getting a prescription, that'd be my suggestion. The parking lot is free and is a busy area. At night it is lit but it would be better if it was brighter. Because it is close to downtown Nbpt there are certainly folks on foot and bikes so be careful. This is one of the only CVS' that I will actually go into. For some reason, the customers at many of them are just not pleasant people. Why they attract stressed out, rude, and/or annoyed customers I don't know but that's been my CVS experience and part of the reason I took my prescriptions and business elsewhere. Life is hard enough without having a stressful experience for simple pharmacy/convenience store shopping. Except he didn't, and I also asked for Parliaments, not Marlboros. He proceeded to check my friend's bag for the pack of cigarettes, ransacked through my purse to make sure I hadn't stolen them, and then showed me on the iPad that I had paid for something. Yes sir, I know I paid. But you never gave me the cigarettes, so I just paid you $9.50 for thin air. Eventually he huffed and puffed, and handed me the pack of Parliaments that I had originally asked for, but not without making me feel like a crook and a pain in the ass in the process.
