We have lived in the area for 10 years, and have had excellent service at the pharmacy, and cheerful support by store staff... but this is not recent, but 2 years ago we made the BIG MISTAKE of getting passport photos taken by a staff person at this store. My application was returned because the frame of the projection screen was clearly visible (so we had to start over, with the Post Office); my wife's photo was accepted, but we thought it was pretty light/overexposed. Only recently, when we were asked to scan her passport to a tour company website that we found out the image size setting was set so incorrectly that there was not enough pixels in the shot to be scanned (!!). Obviously, the person at CVS had not taken the class on how to use or set a basic digital camera. Advice to the careful: Get your passport photos somewhere where the staff (e.g. the Post Office) know what they're doing, and have the right training and equipment. read more

The new AI phone system has NO OPTION for new pharmacy customers. If you're not already in their system (meaning that it doesn't recognize your birthdate), your call is ended. Very unhelpful and completely unprofessional. This is the opposite of customer service and is the reason that I will find another pharmacy, even if I have to travel to Arcata or Eureka. HOWEVER, when I reached a human being in the store, it was explained to me that they're not even able to transfer a call -- their hands are tied. This pharmacy is plagued with staffing issues, a mobile app that frequently feeds you misinformation, and a phone system that inexcusably gives NO NOTICE THAT THEY DO NOT FIELD PHONE CALLS. One of the most convenient features of the pharmacy, the drive thru, is frequently shut down or having curtailed hours due to staffing. Though the staff on duty are likely overworked, some (not all) of them have been openly irritable towards customers who are not being difficult. I've seen a particular staff member give a half-apology about being short-staffed, but that never excuses being rude or short with a customer who is otherwise being polite and appropriate. I got the mobile app specifically due to the fact that I can't call to check prescription status. An example of misinformation, the app told me that I needed to consult with pharmacy staff regarding one of my prescriptions. No way to reach them by phone, and I wanted to take care of whatever might delay the process, so I went in only to be told that "Your prescription isn't ready yet". So I basically got told I needed to come in and speak to someone just to find out that my prescription wasn't ready. Thanks, wonderful use of my time. Perhaps most importantly, I don't know in what world it is permissible to let a customer sit in an automated phone queue while not informing them that the phones are in fact not being answered, and why this has been the case since at least the start of the pandemic. Is corporate insisting that they pretend the phone lines are open to customers? Out of respect for the customers, why can't you at least leave a voice recording to notify people that due to staffing shortages you can't take phone calls instead of continuing to let people waste hours on hold? read more

This review is for the new location at 1720 (directly across the street from its old location). That being said, this new location is big and bright with lots of parking in the new lot. It is a vast improvement over the previous older location across the road. Along with the standard items you would expect in a drug store. This location also carries a nice selection of beer, wine and distilled spirits. There is also a convenience store selection of grocery items; milk, bread, etc. that is actually fairly competitive to the areas stores. With their coupons and cash back offers, if you do it right you can actually save and make a little money from shopping with them. Our most recent visit, with coupons in hand we scored on cosmetics and paper goods, along with some other household items. After it was all said and done - we walked out with not only a huge supply of goods at about half price, but also got $35 in cash back got future shopping trips. Not bad. This is a decent CVS pharmacy/store - it's nice and new and should impact the area and help make prices more competitive from the area stores that market the same products. 3 stars - better than some not as good as others. 00314 read more

There are some incredibly nice employees here especially in the pharmacy. When I wasn't able to pick up my much-needed prescription at another local location that was 'closed' that day (due to who knows why)? they filled both of mine and had them ready within an hour even though they were completely slammed with other prescriptions from the closed location. That is excellent customer service, and being that they prioritized mine even though I'm not a regular made me feel really good, even though I was about to fall over from a migraine. Pharmacist Justin Otting was extremely rude and unprofessional during my interaction with him. He apparently feels it's his duty to talk down to and belittle people picking up medication. My experience with him was so poor that I have switched pharmacies and will no longer be using CVS! read more

I had to switch to CVS a year ago following a change in my Part D insurance. Unfortunately, my experience has been less than satisfactory. The overwhelming majority of my prescription refills have encountered some kind of glitch and is usually met with the quizzical stares of "Hmm, that's weird," to "It's our computer system." Methinks it's usually due to human error. And yes, since the start of Covid everyone in the pharmacy seems harried and overworked, but the continual error "fixing" probably takes up more of the workday than it should. Oh, and they NEVER answer the phone and CVS provides no online way to resolve an issue. read more

For 3 straight days and waiting from anywhere to 30 minutes up to an hour CVS Pharmacy will not pick up their phone. I have a prescription that I have to take daily and I ran out and I guess will try to switch pharmacy's that have better customer service. Today I tried to call them for 3 hours two hours on hold. Every time they answered they hung up and said use the auto system even though I don't have a rx # Do not call this pharmacy if you are really sick. They don't care and are very uncaring and rude. It shouldn't take 4 days to fill birth control. Cvs has no concept for a women's body. They don't seem to care about patients at all. I would call Barnes in Arcata, they actually care and will go above and beyond for you. Cvs said 4 days and Barnes said tomorrow. Cvs also always loses my insurance so every month I have to start all over with them or they expect me to pay $400 for one month of birth control. They tell me every time it will be auto filled and that they will never forget insurance again but it happens every time. read more

Stay away from this place if you need medicine prescriptions!! It's a giant corporation that deliberately bought out our smaller local, family-owned drug stores (that delivered right to my door for free), then shut them down. Today an automated call came to the house from CVS saying my prescriptions were ready. When I went to pick them up, there was an EIGHT CAR LINE UP at the drive through window!! I waited for 35 minutes, then when it was finally my turn, I was told that they had no prescriptions for me! This is CRAZY-making! The gal said she would "go look" and I waited 5 more minutes and when no one ever came back, I drove away. I am transferring my prescriptions to Rite Aid even though I was with them before and they were bad, they were no where near as bad as this! read more

Terrible pharmacy. Has been for almost six months. Never answer the phone. I need deliveries. It worked fine until just this week. Now it has to be done over the phone, which they never answer, or by downloading some app over my not-so-smart but affordable Tracfone telephone with poor reception in the backwater town i have the misfortune to live in. Before delivery worked fine using my computer that I purchased using my Co-Vid stimulus just so I could interact with CVS et al. I'm gonna try Rite-Aid, which uses Doordash for deliveries. They are always so friendly and helpful and bend over backwards to get you the best price on your prescriptions. Last week I had a very, very VERY expensive prescription to fill and the women in the pharmacy did a bunch of research and found a way I could get financial help to greatly reduce the costs. It really saved us from going under from the financial burden of the prescription and I will be forever grateful! I love shopping there. As mentioned by other folks, this new CVS is clean, well stocked and has plenty of parking. I'd like to add that the staff excells at customer service. The retail staff welcomes every customer coming through the front door. I've seen only courteous communication and sincere helpfulness. We had a minor concern and the front store supervisor Mike handled it above and beyond our expectations. As a retired nurse, I had my flu shot by Justin the pharmacist. Can't say that I love shots but it didn't even hurt even the next day! He is knowledgeable and has a great bedside manner. CVS McKinleyville has my business...check them out! read more

As many of you know this cvs is new and will most likely shift the economy in small ways. I love cvs for their $1 snack aisle because they always hit the spot. Unfortunately one of their employees named Luke is a REAL ASSHOLE. I would shop inside cvs after work for the munchies and Luke was never welcoming or friendly or helpful. He gave me mean, ugly, dirty looks and I had no idea why. I even heard him talking crap about other customers in the store and it made me sick to think cvs hired this kind of personality. What upset me the most was seeing him scold his younger coworker who appeared to be on top of her ball and running around working the whole store while he "supervises" and does official "work business" on his phone? Please. He needs to be fired or relocated because his energy is not a match for this towns needs. Or tape a fucking smile to his face so he doesn't have to pretend!! read more

Called to request a prescription be transferred from my regular pharmacy in the Bay Area to this one. Almost 1 week later I'd heard nothing back. Stopped in to see if it was ready and nothing had been done. The person who helped me seemed very confused (all of the pharmacy staff, in fact, seemed confused or flustered) by the request to have the prescription transferred and couldn't figure it out while I was there. She took my insurance card info and my phone number. Called me later to clarify something, then had someone else call again, and ultimately the person I spoke with the next day said my insurance had been cancelled. WTF?!? I called my insurance co. and there was no issue and the support person showed me where on the card the pharmacy info was (why didn't the person who helped me at the store see this??). I called Cloney's, a locally owned pharmacy, instead and got prompt, superior help. I will NEVER return to that CVS. My hunch is that staff is not trained -- bad CVS. read more
