I call this the Campus drug store as it's located within the Capital Mall and just across the street (or just downstairs) from Campus. This place is pretty much the same as any other chain drugstore, when looking for miscellaneous toiletries or maybe to fill a prescription. And that's why I've been here several times - to stock up. Convenience = 3 Stars. My only thing I'll never forgive CVS for is taking over the Target pharmacy business and getting rid of their uniquely designed red (with color code collars) prescription bottles. read more

I had a very disappointing experience at the CVS in Iowa City. I originally used the self-checkout, but when my 25% off coupon wouldn't scan, a shift supervisor named Brianna came over to help and moved me to a register. I also handed her a $4 coupon. Before the issue was clearly resolved, she tore up my $4 coupon. She then insisted it had been applied, but the total only reflected the 25% discount on my $16.99 item. The additional $4 discount was not included. When I politely pointed out the discrepancy, instead of explaining or correcting it, the interaction became argumentative and dismissive. We went back and forth for about 30 minutes, with no resolution. Since my coupon had already been destroyed and the pricing issue still wasn't resolved, I ultimately decided not to complete the purchase. The missing $4 wasn't the biggest issue--it was the lack of professionalism, clear communication, and customer service. I expect a shift supervisor to handle situations like this calmly, accurately, and respectfully. Unfortunately, that wasn't my experience. staff is rude. they nvr greet u but have no problem following you around watching ur every move treating u like u finna steal. I've used this cvs location for 2 months since moving from Chicago and it's by far the worst cvs I've ever shopped. get better staff. feeling welcome is important. read more

Customer service both on the sales floor and in the pharmacy at CVS in the Old Capital has changed tremdously over the years with new leadership and a revolving door of associates. In essence, the service has been on a steady decline. If its location were no not so convenient, I would absolutely go somewhere else. read more

Having seen all of the negative reviews regarding this pharmacy, I felt that I'd like to write about experience. I just moved to Iowa city a few months ago and the pharmacy staff have been really helpful in helping me to set up a new cell system for prescription alerts and to transfer all of my meds from out of state. They're so kind and attentive, that a few people know me by name and I appreciate that additional effort. The downside is that 9/10 you're going to have to wait in a long queue - the place is flooded with students. But that's to be expected being in the middle of campus. Outside of the pharmacy section, I've had a really rude member of staff who was utterly out of order with me. Food is overpriced. read more

Worst pharmacy i've been to, so much so its worth driving 10 minutes to a different CVS location.

This CVS in on campus in the UCC. 3-stars for convenience simply because if you live downtown/on campus and you don't have a car this is the only place you can walk to if you need to buy things like toiletries. When I was a freshman in the dorms, if I couldn't find a friend to take me to Target or couldn't wait until I went back to my parents, this was the place I bought most of my things like toothpaste, shampoo, snacks, etc. With that being said, since it's one of the only places within walking distance that sells toiletries, some groceries, a little bit of everything really, they tend to overcharge for EVERYTHING. I avoid getting things here if possible, but in a pinch it'll do. Parking in the UCC ramp is free for the 1st hour, so if you do drive here parking isn't too much of an issue. read more

Pros: 1. Good location inside the old Capitol mall for those working or living downtown. 2. Has a little bit of everything - I primarily use it for snacks for my office or a candy bar pick me up. 3. Staff are always friendly and helpful. Cons: 1. Be prepared to pay your whole arm and half your leg when you go to pay. The only way to have decent prices is if you have their cvs card (which is free). 2. Location would be somewhat more difficult if not within walking distance, best bet to park in the attached ramp, the first hour is free anyway. read more

Inside the Old Capitol Mall, they aren't the most convenient place to park for. I would place a bet that their computers come from caveman days. This isn't so much the problem, I understand slow computers. I know the attendant has absolutely nothing to do with the long process, that's whatever. Maybe a sign could be put up that says, "We have slow computers, sorry, it sucks, we know." I've had more than my share of awkward moments where I'm staring at them while they stare at a computer and then they look up and see me staring at them and then I look down and back up and they're still staring at me and the computer is doing nothing at all during all of this. The pharmacy techs are always knowledgeable but sometimes they are a little intrusive. Outside the pharmacy, I appreciate CVS's attempts to make me a repeat customer by providing coupons. These coupons print off every time I buy something. I will buy one item and my receipt will be literally two feet long. I'm not even kidding. They seriously need to reform that entire process and while updating their computers, maybe find a more efficient way in providing customers with receipts. They are using so much paper I can't even imagine why they haven't done this already, I can't be the only person who is like, really? It's still printing? STILL? Okay good it's done oh wait no it's not. read more

Convenient for students, friendly staff, self checkout options, and large selection make this essentially an on campus grocery store.

This CVS is conviently located in the Old Capital Mall, its a great location for students, or people who work downtown. The people are pretty friendly for the most part, they have all the things a CVS should have. The one thing I don't really care for is the fact that they are pretty slow at the register, whether there is 2 people in line or 20, their going to go at the same pace they always do, snails pace. read more

The pharmacy at this location is an absolute disgrace. My daughter was very sick. After going to two immediate care locations and getting IV treatment, they sent her home with a script for an antibiotic. I called CVS to see if they delivered since there was no way that she could go and pick it up. I was on the phone for 45 minutes with the pharmacist while she eventually figured out how to process her perscription and get it delivered to her. This was at 3pm. I was told that she would have the medicine delivered by 5pm. When it didn't show up by 6:30pm, I called and was told that maybe she would have it by 11am the next day. WHAT!? I spend all of that time, as well as paying an extra fee for the delivery, to be told that nothing was going to happen as I was told? I was beside myself and they absolutely could not have cared less. Zero concern about their customers, zero concern about a seriously sick college kid, and they didn't even offer an alternative on how to help her. Sickening, and beyond disappointing. I will NOT be giving this CVS any further business, and will be sure all of her friends know what kind of service they can avoid by not going here as well. read more

Convenient on campus easy to walk to after class except for the virulent racism. As an international student from Africa, i try to keep an open mind. I have been in Iowa city for 3 years and every single time I'm followed closely in this store. I have had them scream 'anything i can help you with today' from the other side of the store. I used to say give them time maybe they recognize you are a regular and leave you alone. Nope. just the other day i had two not one attendant follow me around. I give up. read more

Very overpriced& overtaxed. The pharmacists don't know too much for what drug to suggest either.

I've been going to this cvs for 3 years only because it's 500 feet away from my place. Their cigarettes prices are the lowest in town and since I'm a smoker and live so close I'm almost forced to shop here. The store is mismanaged horribly. Half of the staff is special needs or just plain slow while the other half just wants to do anything besides work although 2 or 3 people have a normal IQ and still care about the customers. Most of the time the store is full of people and quite busy but you will almost always find the mentally challenged people running the cash registers. I'm so happy that cvs gives these people a job but the "normal" people that work here just abuse them and make them check people out all day which creates a huge problem. Sometimes you can be in line for 10 minutes just because the person running the cash register has no idea wtf they are doing. I mean come on these people can't be stocking the shelves and cleaning while people with a high school education run the cash registers?!?!? Then on top of that during the summer when the college is less busy they open later and close earlier. Now I understand the college kids make up a good portion of there customers but this store stays busy enough that it could easily stay open till 12am and still pay the bills but the manager is just a lazy sack of sh!t so during the summer they close at 630pm!!! Today was the last straw as I approached the store at 625 just to see them closing earlier while 10 or more people wanted in to buy things. read more
