This was our first trip to the area so I bought food to cook from home, and left a few meals out thinking we would eat at a nearby restaurant while checking out the area. At the time of the trip there wasn't any snow or predictions for snow where we lived in New York City, so I was surprised the day of our check in when we passed the outskirts of Albany and saw snow. Long story short, it was very cold, it snowed during our trip, and thankfully we were in a lake house with amazing views and large windows. We didn't want to go anywhere, but needed to venture to the store for more food. We found everything that we needed to sustain us for the remaining days. We don't eat meat so I don't know if they had chicken, beef etc., but we pulled what we needed from the shelves and frozen sections. Employees were super friendly. It's a small lake town, everyone waived as we passed them by which was refreshing. This was the only grocery store within the immediate vicinity.

I happened to be in town for an eye doctor's appointment... and I didn't feel like driving to Greenwich or Saratoga for just a few items. This was my first visit to Byron's; it's bigger inside than I anticipated...but it has the feel of an old school, slightly dilapidated, hometown grocery store. There was a lovely smell of fresh baked bread wafting throughout. So, I grabbed a warm mini loaf of the Italian bread thanks to my olfactory senses taking over. The produce section is small as are the meat and bread sections. Plenty of pre packaged snacks and other junky foods to choose from...as well as various household items and greeting cards. There's a lottery machine near the entrance for all scratch off and lotto needs. There's a small parking lot that usually has spots available-it is designated specifically for Byron's as well.

I especially like their butcher counter where you can grab marinated meats and custom cut steaks etc...Unfortunately, on this visit I was disappointed that they ran out of their daily special. By the afternoon they no longer had any whole or half portions of ribeye. It's nice when you can have it custom cut to your liking. When I'm out and about, it's not always easy to get there so early so it's a bummer when you are intent on something specific. I really like their fruit tarts too. They come individual sized, as well as a standard pie size. It's the perfect bite after a meal or whenever as it's not too sweet and it's quite good. Lastly, the shop is always nicely organized and the staff is helpful. All this makes for a regularly pleasant shopping experience.

Made the best Chimichurri tacos on the grill tonight courtesy of Fresh Markets meat counter and their amazing marinade!! So glad the gentlemen at the meat counter were so prompt and helpful while I was making my selections. I will definitely return for the meat counter. It was my husbands birthday, so I also grabbed a cake and some desserts for the fam -- the cakes are about what you would pay at Price Chopper, but in my opinion, they appear to be made with more attention to detail. If you're having a hard time finding birthday candles with numbers, they have a huge selection next to the cake counter and some Birthday cake pieces as well. The way to shop at this store is by learning the regular sale days. Tuesdays deals are: $5.00 12 inch pizza $3.99/lb Chicken Breast $5.99/lb ground beef $5.00 rotisserie chicken Fridays deals are: 2 for $5 burgers Each week they choose a different fresh deal, so you'll likely find a deal for $5.00/lb meat. This evening it was carne asada chicken breast cutlets. Other elements that I really enjoy is that their olive bar has Dolmas!! It's the only one that I know of that carries them in the area. Never realized how difficult it is to find specialty food until I moved back to Saratoga from Texas. Plus, my kiddos love going with me for the candy by the pound jars -- they really love getting to make their own selection and mix. While I do find the market to have steeper prices, I do enjoy the convenience, but I have to shop the deals.

They like to put the price tag up for one item and make you think it's for what you want and then tell you that it's just not in it's normal spot or that they usually don't carry it, so they put it there. Go into a store like Walmart and tell them that the item you got from the shelf isn't priced what it rings up, and even if it's been put in a spot where something else goes, if it's there on the shelf with that price, you pay that. Not here. Could have easily have given the item for the price listed on the shelf and then changed it before someone else was fooled into thinking that was the price, but made sure not to do so.
