My husband and I had an appointment for our second Covid Moderna booster at this pharmacy on Sunday at 11 AM, but when we arrived, having driven up from Solana Beach, there was a sign on the outer door of CVS that the store was closed: no explanation, just "Sorry for the inconvenience." We had not gotten a text to cancel the appointment (though one did arrive at 8:00 that evening). We were going out of town at the end of the week and had wanted to get our boosters several days in advance in case the injections made us feel unwell at first. So I tried to make another appointment online ASAP. Dealing with the CVS website was not particularly easy -- but I ended up booking appointments for Monday evening in Solana Beach. But on Monday morning, I got a text from CVS saying that our appointments had been canceled, with no other explanation. We happened to be in Encinitas on Monday so we stopped by to ask the pharmacy staff if, because the store had been closed the morning before, they could give us the boosters then, even though they have a "no walk-in" policy. At first they said okay but when they started looking at the online appointment scheduling system, it apparently showed that we still had appointments later that day in Solana Beach, so they refused -- although I told them I had gotten a text that morning supposedly canceling the SB appointment. Then they told me that on Sunday I had come to the wrong store (that I had made the original appointment for Solana Beach rather than Encinitas) and therefore the whole situation was "kinda your fault." Their attitude from the beginning (I dealt with one woman and two men), was not friendly or helpful, and they became increasingly rude. This treatment -- not trying to help but instead insisting that it was all my fault -- made me increasingly upset, though I'm honestly not a demanding or difficult customer. One of them even told me to calm down (I admit that my frustration was putting an edge on my voice, but I was definitely not shouting). I said that I was positive that I had made the appointment in Encinitas rather than Solana Beach, so they asked if I had a confirmation. I found the email confirmation of the appointment on Sunday at 11 that specified the Encinitas location, and showed it to them. First they said, well, the system shows something different. But they had to acknowledge that this was an official CVS confirmation email. Okay, they said, you may have made your OWN appointment in Encinitas but you made your HUSBAND'S in Solana Beach. No, I said: I had made the two appointments together at the same time, using the "Group appointment" tab on the website. They clearly didn't believe me and kept insisting that I was wrong, that I was the one who had screwed up. By this point I was getting so distressed by this rude behavior and the obvious fact that they were not going to try to help -- especially given that I knew it was NOT my fault -- that we just left. (A little later I located the email confirmation of my husband's appointment in Encinitas on that Sunday at the same time as mine, just as I had told them.) On the way home, we stopped by the Solana Beach CVS to get clear about that cancellation text, where they were very helpful and sympathetic, and gave us the boosters right away, even though the presumably cancelled appointments had been for later that evening. They were everything that the staff at Encinitas had not been: competent, friendly, helpful. The rudeness and unprofessionalism of the pharmacy staff at Encinitas was really breathtaking: I don't think I've ever been treated so disrespectfully by an interaction with employees at a store. There was no expression of regret about the store having been unexpectedly closed on Sunday -- which I wasn't at all blaming them for -- and no attempt to be helpful or to acknowledge that their online appointment system clearly needed improvement. Certainly there was no apology for their behavior or even acknowledgment that their assumptions about my "errors" in making the appointments were completely wrong. I will go out of my way in the future to avoid this store! read more

Worse CVS I have ever been to. Never returning. The clerk Theresa makes you feel like a criminal. This was only my second time there. First time, I was standing behind a man while he was checking out. Another clerk helped him with the benadryl adding that he was over 21yo. The receipt printed out and he walked out to leave but the self checkout dinged for some reason. She ran over and kept making him explain what happened like he was stealing. I also defended him several times saying I saw him pay. She went through his receipts and looked through his stuff to confirm. We even told him another clerk already helped him. Anyways I came back this week and had a horrible experience myself. I rarely write yelp reviews but she has me fuming. When I went to self check out.... She came right away to see what I was doing. I had stuff in a bag and she was looking into my bag like I was trying to steal. She first said oh next time make sure you don't have them in bags... there are cameras everywhere and we can't see what you put inside. She also said i have seen you shop around here (which was just my 2nd time). My face was shocked, but then she said also due to covid so I was like fine. But if i really wanted to steal, why would i have my hospital badge on me? She was just rude. She asked if I wanted to have her ring me up but I said no since I just like doing self checkout myself. Anyways after I rang it up, I had a gift card. I asked her how to use it and first thing she said was "I don't know??? That's why I told you I should ring you up" so freaken rude. I have to deal with this place since it the closest one to my home. every single time I have a prescription sent there alway! every single time there is some sort of issue! they take forever to fill up prescriptions, they always find a way to make you wait for it, even when you get a notification that the prescription is ready! Had an appointment here to get a covid shot. The only available time was 8 pm. As many cvs pharmacies say, if you call ahead and they can fit you in, they will honor your place and give the covid shot. So I went this morning waited around until no one is in line. Asked them if I could take shot earlier than my appointment, and they said this wasn't possible. I said that I had come in the day before to ask for a walk in and they said they don't do walk ins (even though cvs had signs for walk in.) And so then I said I made the appointment for the next day online (using my phone) and the person the day before told me that I could come in earlier if they weren't busy and get the shot earlier. When I completed this story they said it's not possible. So I called another cvs pharmacy up the street who told me it was possible. That they would honor but I'd have to make the appt with them. I went back into this pharmacy and asked again and said the other pharmacy would do it too. They said they were swamped and couldn't do it. I looked around and said there is no one in line for the pharmacy or for the vaccination. There wasn't a person sitting down who had taken the vaccination and waiting the "15 min". There was not a single person. I turned back around to the pharmacist and she said in a snarky tone, "thanks, bye". Wouldn't make eye contact. Wasn't hoping to meet rude people today. Such a shame. Another vaccination shot going to waste. Made an appointment on false information given to me, then can't make the appointment and they won't take walk ins. CVS in Encinitas is not worth going to. Drive the extra 10 minutes to La Costa and you'll interact with down to earth, logistically savvy employees. read more

GO ANYWHERE ELSE FOR PRESCRIPTIONS I have been a long-time customer of this pharmacy, not because I particularly liked the service but because the location is very convenient for me. However, I have severed my ties due to two recent events as follows: 1. I am allergic to one particular generic formulation of a medication that I take regularly. CVS makes more money on the generic formulation to which I am allergic, and I must remind them each month to fill my script with another formulation. Inconvenient, and it gets worse. Last month despite my reminder, the pharmacist dispensed the allergic formulation anyway. I got home before I realized the mistake. When I called to ask for a replacement, she told me the generic formulation that I need is not preferred; and she advised me to take Benadryl. I was shocked at this UNETHICAL ADVICE. Bottom line: All pharmacies profit from their generic contracts, and this is an example of how CVS puts profit above patient safety. 2. My elderly dog has been taking tramadol for several years for severe cancer-related pain. I recently went to fill an updated prescription for 100mg every six hours. The pharmacist refused to fill it because their generic formulation from Sun Pharmaceuticals comes in 50mg tablets, and the script indicted 100mg total dose. Mind you, 50 x 2 = 100. The pharmacist implied that I was presenting a fake prescription because it was not written for 50mg x 2 tabs every six hours. What added extra insult to this insult was that the brand for this drug, Ultram, comes in 100mg capsules; and my dog had been taking 100mg doses every 12 hours for over a year. So instead of looking at the medical history and doing the math, he refused to fill it until he spoke with the doctor. This meant that my dog had to suffer in severe, end-of life pain for the weekend. No one should see that. (You ask: Why didn't we put him down if he's in that much pain? Good question. The answer is that we did.) Bottom line: Tramadol is a schedule IV drug and extra caution is necessary to avoid legal action for wrongful dispensing. However, the CVS pharmacist made an unreasonably heartless judgement call over a very minor technicality in a clear case with a long history. This is an example of how CVS puts fear of litigation over patient well-being. read more

I was looking for face jewels and asked this worker woman. She said she only thought she knew and demanded I follow her all around the damn store! Then she took me to the pen aisle. Lady what?? Got me chasing and wasting my time and energy! So when we was ready to go I went to the cashier lane. What a hassle! They make the patron folk do all they work! Ok! Encinitas is a sleepy town so having a drugstore open 24/7 is a good thing. You can get cleaning supplies, all kinds of soaps and makeup, wine and liquor here. They sell a lot of necessities, but they carry limited brand varieties. It is surprising to me that they only carry window cleaners with ammonia when modern windows will get ruined with ammonia. CVS has all kinds of incentives to buy more product, but be careful.The promotions on the floor do not necessarily ring in correctly. You would think that the cashiers would be helpful when you point out that you have been overcharged, but no. Instead of correcting it they have to call a manager, back up the line and act snotty. I was embarrassed about the way they handled the situation which held me and the other people checking out. I wanted to just pay whatever the computer asked to get out of there. You would think that they would apologize for the inconvenience as they have to deal with this every day, but they do not care. It is nice to have access to products 24/7 but this is not a place that I would recommend. read more

The middle age man (only 42 surprisingly) behind the counter at the pharmacy with the big head of curly hair is so cold it turns customers off upon even walking up to him. As I approached him I heard him swearing while trying to impress a colleague (girl with pink hair). I should have just turned around then as I know the kind of guy he was going to be. Terse, cold and angry at the world for the hand he's been dealt in life. Then begins the dreaded needing to help a customer part for him, ya know the part he actually has to work. I give him my out of area number and he scoffs and says "that's a phone number pal? I guess nobody's from around here anymore"... it's like dude chill TF out you're a dumpy, woe-is-me kind of guy that nobody likes to be around. Don't hate on people outside of your hometown. His shockingly cold nature made me decide right then that I am going to the Walgreens down the street instead. I took my prescription and left due to piss poor customer service. Customer service doesn't mean anything anymore and that's fine, but a message to that guy: Don't act like CVS has told you to dissuade customers. They still want to sell stuff, hence they are a store. You are extraordinarily replaceable and probably don't deserve to have your current job even though it's meh. Nobody will care if your miserable self gets fired from that outfit, not even the girl with the pink hair you have a crush on (Hint: she is grossed out by you). They apply all available coupons and help you get the best price on your purchases, even pointing out buy one get one half price promotions, and waiting while you get a second item. I would caution the store is close to the freeway, and some after dark walk in customers are are a little sketchy. Daytime shopping is excellent. read more

Went to this CVS location to pick up some hair ties since I ran out. I thought the layout of this location was strange. You walk in and in the middle, there was a wide space and to the left and right were small isles of stuff. Anyway, I found my hair ties which were on sale for $1.45. I saw numerous hair stuff on sale but chose this bundle of colorful hair ties. I was satisfied with what I picked. Everything was organized and easy to find without having any assistance. Everything was fully stocked. However, once it was time to pay, there was a long line with only two cashiers. The lady to the right at the cash register made a quick comment about who the ties were for thinking it was for my daughter when it was actually for me. Lines took a long time. I really think they should add self check outs since standing in line can take forever. That was my only gripe. There is plenty of parking up front. read more

I was in the travel aisle getting my eldest son travel toiletries for 6th grade camp, and I had my youngest son with me, who is nonverbal with autism, who was acting up causing me to take a little while (longer than normal) to gather everything I needed. I didn't grab a basket because it's just a handful of travel items. This wanna be playboy centerfold employee approaches me and stares me down asking if I need help, I politely say "no I'm okay thank you" and she wouldn't leave the aisle. She paused and says "okay, welllll let me know if you need any help" with that accusatory tone. To which I replied, "okay, will do, thank you". Hops on her walkie talkie and starts informing other employees to watch out for me, so I see all these employees start popping out from everywhere making sure I'm not stealing. I have a large purse with a big wallet, a makeup bag, a giant pack of wipes and diapers in it, because it's easier than carrying a diaper bag. So she's assuming I'm putting stuff in my purse and I've literally just never felt so harassed. Perhaps it was her judgement on my "alternative" clothing, which is a black shirt and black denim jacket? I was wearing jeans and house slippers too but other than that and taking a while in the aisle I have NO idea why I was targeted but I couldn't get a hold of the manager by phone. They also had an employee check to make sure that my CVS bucks were linked to the phone number I provided, along with SCANNING MY ITEMS AT SELF CHECKOUT. which added way more time to my trip. There was a year when my insurance was always having issues and Sam went above and beyond to help me straighten it out every time. I kept putting off changing pharmacies because the location was convenient to where I live. After my many, less than pleasant experiences with multiple pharmacy employees, I will never go back or recommend this place to anyone. Both Kendra and the lady with grey hair that work there seem to be the most miserable people on earth. Neither should be allowed to work in customer service or be responsible for supplying medication to anyone. Anytime I have had a question or insurance issue they barely listen and once you are finished asking they are downright annoyed and give you less than a helpful response. You are better off calling the insurance company, your doctor, or even Google, before trying to get help from either of them. Another common issue is if you have to check in on anything via a phone call. Wait times are regularly 15 mins. Then, when you finally get through, you are greeted with people who sound to be heavily medicated on Xanax themselves and close to lifelessness, and again, annoyance for your inquiries. All of this makes me less than confident in their pharmaceutical abilities. On a basic human decency level I no longer want to support people or a company that hires and tolerates this kind of interaction with their customers. read more

Apparently your mama never taught you manners. I went in hoping to quickly buy some ibuprofen for my wife who was at home with our newborn and some intense post-partum pain. When I walked up to the checkout there was an employee behind a closed counter. After realizing it was closed I stopped and waited where I was for the person at the open counter to finish. Previously mentioned employee then walked out from behind the closed counter, took some candy and chocolate, CUT IN FRONT of me, and checked out at the open counter. He took one look at me, and far as I can tell, since I didn't look like him, he didn't give me the time of day. He knew I was waiting (saw me walk up) and didn't care (this was confirmed by the other employee) then pretended not to have known. When leaving with his candy he smugly mentioned that the check out line starts on the other side of the 5 foot free standing aisle from where I was standing. I mentioned back that he could have asked. He wasn't happy about that. I hope the chocolate fills some of the emptiness in his soul. read more

I cannot recommend this pharmacy. They were not honest and created unnecessary work for my doctor's office and me. However, in the end when I brought the true issue to them, they were helpful. I will avoid this location from now on. They told me that the manufacturer quit making my specific drug and that they contacted my doctors office to change my script to a generic form. The generic versions of this drug doesn't work for me and to change to another name brand takes months of adjustments of the dose. I contacted my old pharmacy located where I previously lived and was told that my drug is available from a certain distributer and that I needed to find a pharmacy that received their drugs from this distributer. This CVS pharmacy location did provide me with address and phone number of a pharmacy that did carry my specific drug only after I told them what I had found out. read more

There's no help out in the aisles to be found. You can't get help if you ask where to find something, only a vague pointing to the area of your item. They never use your name or say please or thank you for shopping there. I tried to order a specific generic for my prescription 4 times to be told that CVS doesn't carry it and won't order it. Encinitas Blvd. Had it and has been happy to stock it for me for 2 years. I can even call ahead to ensure there are enough for my large prescription or they'll immediately order for me...not so here. Pharmacy waits are ridiculous and you can't get your questions answered. The front desk looks like hoarder central and the front desk employees look stressed and unhappy. I write this after leaving the store less than 10 minutes ago. Pharmacy staff is totally incompetent. I brought in a new prescription (1 refill every month for 12 months) from my Encinitas doctor two months ago. Unfortunately, my insurance did not cover it and this medication did not have a generic. I called my Encinitas doctor to request a different medication that was generic - she called CVS with the new one, and everything was fine in the world. For two months I had been receiving the generic medication. This afternoon, I receive a call that they could not refill my prescription because my doctor denied the request for a refill. What? Turns out they called my previous doctor (from my time spent in Los Angeles). I did have a previous prescription for the same medication which had run out. I kindly informed them that I had brought a new prescription from the Encinitas doctor which was good for the next year. Which brings us to what has transpired tonight. I go to pick up my prescription, and lo-and-behold, they tell me it isn't covered because they have it on file as the non-generic medication AND they will not give me the generic because it has to be approved from my Encinitas doctor. WHAT?! I told them I had been receiving the generic for TWO MONTHS and my Encinitas doctor had already called them to fix this TWO MONTHS ago. They insisted that they had to call the doctor, and since it was past 5pm, my Encinitas doctor's office was closed. I was told I had to wait until tomorrow morning. I have never been so utterly angry after leaving a store. I didn't even buy the items I had in my basket because I could not understand the idiocity of these people. They were totally unwilling to listen to what I was saying and refused to own up to their mistake. This was the straw that broke the camel's back. I have also had problems with them losing my insurance information (their words), and they had my birthday in their system wrong which was denying every attempt at processing through insurance. We changed to CVS from Rite-Aid as it was closer. Big Mistake! Rite-Aid makes sure you KNOW the contraindications for your prescription and you must sign a waiver, in fact, if not interested. CVS gave my husband his prescription and he DID choose to know the details. All that was quickly said was that he shouldn't take it near vitamin intake. There was a lot more they should've indicated and advised which was omitted. We are now, on a Sunday, headed to a Doc because of serious adverse reactions. We are moving our business and go-to pharmacy back to Rite-Aid on Santa Fe, Encinitas. Suggest you consider doing the same. read more

I would give them 0 stars if I could. This is the worst pharmacy I have ever been to. Never go here for prescription medication. They are literally a bunch of unethical crooks! I recently had a prescription dropped off for one single medication along with a rebate card for the medication that my doctor gave me. When I came to pick up my processed order, they had two entirely different medications waiting. When I told them that this was not the prescription I placed, they claimed that my doctor sent them a "new" electronic prescription and they had no record of my original hard copy prescription I dropped off. Not to my surprise, after calling my doctor to confirm, he had never changed my prescription at CVS. Apparently CVS swapped my prescription with two other drugs that combine to form the total ingredients of the single drug I originally was trying to purchase. They did this to avoid having to honor my rebate card in an attempt to make more money by selling two meds instead of one. Not only is what CVS did ILLEGAL and should be reported to the FDA, but it is also extremely unethical. Changing your customer's prescription without telling their doctor or the patient, just to make a few more bucks is outright CRIMINAL! NEVER get your prescription from this pharmacy. Go anywhere else. They should be shut down for their reckless behavior. read more

However, my experience today has officially lead me to transfer all of my prescriptions to Vons and it will be a very long time before I step foot in there again. I called today to verify I still had a prescription available for pickup as I have been out of town. The woman in the pharmacy could not of been more miserable and clearly did not want to be at work today. When a question came up in regards to my insurance, she could not of been any less short or unhelpful. Frankly, she was plane rude. This store is filthy and their staff members are not overly friendly. And prepare to wait a VERY long time in line when picking up a prescription. Manger came up to me and said that my animal was not allowed in the facility. And I should read the sign outside. I read the sign outside service animals are allowed and I brought that up to him and he said he needed proof of me needing him which is ridiculous. Never happened to me before he was extremely rude about it and did not want to hear what I had to say. I will NOT be returning to this CVS even though it is closer to my home I will use the other one. He should be re-evaluated on his customer service training because that is not how you should be talking to a customer in front of other customers. read more

Don't use your reusable bags here, they'll have their "Loss Prevention" security guard frantically hunt you down, search your bag, including your purse only to find nothing & make a stupid ass of themselves. This was so embarrassing & anxiety provoking, I cried when I got back to my car. THANKS GUYS! read more
