The pharmacy staff is great except for a few bad seeds. Especially Felicia. She is rude and makes no excuses about it. The rest of the staff is great. They really know their customers by name and they are friendly. There's a new pharmacist and she is really compassionate. She takes time to meet customers and gives advice. I must say management took the steps to reach out to me and talk to me regarding the issues that I was having at their location. They made sure to let me know that I am valued as a customer and to come back to their store and we will make things right. They did exactly that and I really appreciate that they did this. You cannot anticipate how your employees are going to be when they work for your company. However if they are not doing their job and make their customers feel as if they don't matter then they will be reprimanded. Great job CVS and management at this location . read more

Yesterday I went to use the minute clinic at this location. They were supposed to open at 8:30 am. There were already 5 people waiting by 8:40 and there was no one at the clinic. That is not my complaint, though. A mom with a young child was waiting with us and she walked up to the pharmacy to see if they knew why the clinic wasn't open yet. The young blonde pharmacist turned to her and said "I don't know, they don't have anything to do with us". When I got up to ask for help, again she was dismissive and didn't offer any options to us. She could have easily referred us to the manager - who as soon as she found out got on the phone and helped solved the issue. I don't understand why someone in healthcare would be so careless about people who are obviously unwell - looking for help. Pathetic! She ought to be ashamed of herself. read more

A bit cleaner than the Walgreens on 55th. Service is hit or miss and self checkout is a pain instead of a plus. If you're buying something because of a sale tag, check to make sure the tag and the item match up--they usually don't here. read more

I am that person at CVS - the person who comes in with both her CVS coupons and her manufacturer's coupons (it has been ages since I actually paid for toothpaste.) And yes, this is the CVS I shop at the most. Are they perfect? No. Sometimes items are out of stock and the store can be chaotic and crowded (it is one of the only drugstores within walking distance of the University of Chicago.) For me, the positives outweigh the negatives. Yes, there is likely to only be one cashier - but I like that there is always someone to help at the self-check terminals. And that person always helps me make sure that the machine accepts all of my coupons. I've also gotten answers to my questions about sales - and when items are out of stock - rainchecks. Like I said, I love my coupons and I love that the staff at this CVS is patient and helpful as I redeem them. I also use the pharmacy. Generally, my doctor sends my orders directly to them - and they're always ready when I arrive, but keep in mind - again - this is one of the very few drugstores near the University of Chicago and its hospital. Given the crowds at this store and the Walgreens up the street, one would think that the corporations that own these stores would open more branches instead of planting more locations in the Loop - but that would make too much sense! read more

Kinda small but the friendliest cvs pharmacy I've ever been to. There are four self check out stations, which is great for quick purchases.

FIRST encounter - an injectable med that they did not have available...a med that is not an electively taken med - it is a med that prevents me from tossing a clot into my lungs, heart or brain...i had to have my provider call it in to another pharmacy...awesome. SECOND encounter - I had to wait twice in a pick-up line for 10+ minutes each time to pick up a SIMPLE med. The prescription was called in at 3pm ( I was in the office while it was called in) and the meds were finally ready at 8pm. They would NOT have been ready had i not stood in a drop off line. I had to stand in a drop off line for a phoned in prescription - who would have known?! The pharmacy assistant/tech interrupted me twice while i was speaking AND had to ask me twice for my DOB - sigh. Alas, my employer changed out script plan to CVS...what a bummer. This place is horrible. I loved my CVS in Boston, but this place is HORRID. read more

I visited this cvs pharmacy yesterday,and for the first time EVER I received great service Folsom start to finish! I was told my prescription would be ready in 20 mins and I got it in 5! Shut the door! Additionally I had positive conversation with the drop off tech, pharmacist and cashier! The service was so great, I apologized to the cashier for coming in with a negative attitude in anticipation of a horrible visit. I don't know if management changed, they got rid of some bad seeds, or they were all just in the Christmas spirit but I hope this level of service stays the same! read more

I was very disappointed today at CVS. I came in (I use a cane)and was glad to see they had what i wanted. As I was heading to self checkout, I needed to stop and rest. i dropped my 2 drinks and the cashier with the long pink/red hair said"xcuse me, the line is over there" I replied"oh I know, I dropped my drinks and i'm trying to figure out how to pick it up" I proceeded to hold up my cane so her and the man next to her behind the counter saw I was disabled. Her and the other cashier, or maybe manager (he was a stocky black man) looked and both went back to what they were doing. I rolled the drinks with my cane to the line and a lady who had to be 70 bent over and got the drinks for me. That was the worst customer service I have ever experienced. You clearly see I am in need of help, and neither of the CVS workers who saw my need, came to help. That was ridiculous and I am very shocked and disappointed.... read more

Went there to pick up funds for Moneygram and kept getting an error. While the sender went all the way back to resend, I browsed the store. Not much to offer in the way of facial cream, make-up etc. went back to try again after 25 minutes and only then was told they don't remit funds after 8pm. No sign, nothing on the screen advising of hours, no apology for me spending 30 minutes in a dark dank store for nothing. Worse service ever. There is a reason I normally shop at Walgreens. read more

Pretty subpar even by CVS standards. Poor selection, and the staff all seem to have mild brain damage. Plus, you can't even get something rung up and bagged by a human -- even if you ask. You have to use the auto checkout, which very often malfunctions in some way halfway through. read more

This weekend, I ordered a set of prints through the Kodak website, and had them printed via this CVS. The ONLY thing positive that I can say about this experience is that they were done on time. The prints, despite having been sent in high resolution, came back grainy. I was also billed for duplicates I didn't order. When I noted to the representative that I'd only ordered 32 prints, her response was a shrug and, "well, you've got 37 now." Closer inspection revealed that I'd been billed for duplicates I didn't order, and several bad prints - two were very highly pixelated (which was odd, since the second print was fine), and one apparently didn't even get fully downloaded (also, the second print was fine.) The paper was flimsy, as well. Finally, apparently since they had some inkling that I wasn't likely to be thrilled with what I was purchasing, the "customer service representative" rushed me over to the self-checkout, dumped me there, and raced into some office, so I didn't have an opportunity to review the photos. I was very unhappy with the product, and will not be getting pictures there again. Tried raising my concern with Kodak so that they know they have a subpar vendor, but apparently Kodak doesn't care. So, buyer beware! Don't go here for picture printing! read more

The new self-service check out is an absolute disaster and drives me crazy, and the overall customer service is just a pain in the #&^. They lock up things like tooth paste, and than you have to wait 20 Minutes for someone to find the key to open the glass door. Absolutely ridiculous. The two stars are only because of the Pharmacy, their staff is actually knowledgeable and friendly. Otherwise they would deserve 0 stars. read more

I frequent this CVS pharmacy monthly and every time I go it takes forever to pick up my prescriptions. The lines are long and they sometimes stretch down the aisles. The employees are working hard but they're always behind with filling prescriptions. I have never had an in and out visit here. If you can't find a parking spot in the parking lot (which is frustrating) and have to park on the street I would suggest you pay because you will more than likely receive a ticket waiting on your prescription here especially if you are picking up between the hours of 4p-7p. I have never had bad customer service from the pharmacy staff and they seem to handle unsatisfied customers well. At times I have heard the staff complain about their coworkers who are not doing there job which I find inappropriate. Customers should not be hearing their dissatisfaction with their coworkers. I gave three stars because the service is very slow and parking in the lot can be frustrating. read more

I actually prefer this CVS to the Walgreen's in the Hyde Park Shopping Center. The HPSC Walgreen's, although much larger, has much less useful merchandise - it reminds me of a Dollar Tree in its layout (bins everywhere), is disorganized, poorly lit, jarring to the eye, dirty, has overly stuffed shelves, has more gimmicky stuff (Obama merchandise, t-shirts, baseball caps.) The CVS is better lit and organized, and has a far better selection of what I would go to a drugstore to buy: personal hygiene and beauty products, cleaning products, stationary, cheap gifts, over-the-counter pharmaceuticals. Admittedly, there is more food at the Walgreen's. The one real downfall to the CVS is that it is understaffed and there is always a long line to check out at the register. It doesn't get anywhere near as much on-campus student traffic as the Walgreen's at 55th, though this might change due to the closing of the Shoreland dorms at 54th and South Shore. I go in when I have % off coupons. Today I was there and you can't get a shopping cart without paying a quarter (!), which the clerk said you get back but how annoying. Then there were no baskets available either! I bet in suburbs they don't make you pay a quarter to get a cart! read more

This CVS is terrible. The pharmacy is always understaffed, so the waits are invariably terrible. Additionally, I don't think I've ever once had a prescription refill happen without some kind of issue. It would be fine if they just had delays due to insurance, but what seems to happen is that when they have a problem with the prescription they don't tell me or take steps to fix it - they just kind of ignore it until I show up wondering where my prescription is. Thank god I don't have a heart problem or I would probably be dead by now thanks to CVS's terrible service. I will say that the pharmacy techs are very nice and friendly, but the pharmacy department as a whole is totally incompetent. They need to hire some more employees or reorganize or something, because the system they have now is unacceptable. read more

I like this CVS. It's convenient that they have a Bank of America ATM in the store, and they have a good selection of drugstore and convenience store items, and their prices are better than their competition. Plus, this CVS has MinuteClinic--a very big help when you need to see a medical professional for a (comparatively) minor issue that doesn't warrant a doctor or emergency room visit. read more

After my last experience with these bozos I opted to use a pharmacy downtown. However, today, I didn't have time to go downtown. My doctor sent in the prescription late morning to the pharmacy to the 53rd Street CVS. I went in around 4:30PM to pick it up. I foolishly joined the "pick up" line. Four people were in front of me--three of whom had problems with their orders. 20 minutes later, I get to the front of the line and ask for my prescription. They had no record of it and I was directed to the "drop off" line. Another 20 minutes later I get to the front of that line and I'm told the they do have a record of the prescription (it is funny that the person at the other counter didn't now this, but I guess the "pick up" computer cannot see what is on the "drop off" computer because this would be convenient for customers and that is contrary to CVS policy). For some reason (global warming?) they had not filled my prescription t because it was "electronic". I guess they give priority to orders that are chiseled in stone or "phoned" in using the tin can and string method. I was told to come back in 20 minutes, which I do. Yah--they have my order. The prescription was simply a pre-packaged cream. No doubt the pharmacy degrees came in really handy for these guys to find it on the shelf and put it in a CVS package. So, basically it took an hour to have a prescription filled that should have been ready for me when I arrived. read more

Prior to 2011 or so, this was the better of the two pharmacies in Hyde Park - cleaner than the Walgreen's on 55th, better-organized, more relaxing, and with a better selection of hygiene and beauty products. The main problem was that it took forever to check out. To remedy this, they put in the electronic self-check out machines. This often just causes even more problems - the machines malfunction constantly, double-charging you or freezing, and so an employee needs to stand by with a key to reset them every few minutes. Also, their selection of cigarettes, stationary, and hygiene products is screwed up now - I can't even buy Camel Turkish Silvers, nonetheless Neutrogena hand cream or John Frieda lightening shampoo, all of which they used to have. If you live in Northwest or Central Hyde Park, you're better off going to the Treasure Island/Walgreens at 55th and Lake Park, or the excellently organized and run Walgreens at 51st and Cottage Grove (which most Hyde Parkers don't even know exists.) read more

The worst CVS location in town: bad service, rude staff, long waits, no privacy, poor management by Mr. Berniard (heard he retired, though). They violated HIPPA more than once with me - one time, they gave me somebody else's psych meds instead of my antihistamine, with their full name and info on the bottle, and I didn't notice it until I went home and almost took that stuff! That person's last name only had one letter in common with my last name. That's all it took for such a dangerous mix-up to occur!? Besides, in such a small community as HP, chances are, you know the person whose meds were accidentally gieven to you..? I wonder how often they gave my prescription drug to someone else? And if you really make a serious complaint, to their regional manager, all they offer is an apology and a $20 vouch for in-store use. Hooray. That's what my privacy and health is worth to you? Seriously, if the Walgreens in HP wasn't equally bad, I would never come here. But, alas - it's the only 2 options around here. read more
