Armed knights with black dingees on their legs A cashier manning the big red packs of cinnamon gum And a valentine candy treated discount The check pricing machine from the back of the store still works! I just adore printing their receipts. You never know when there's another toilet paper outage...so for a 13 cent candy purchase, I get a foot long receipt to supplement my next visit. All in all, I've been a member of their club for ages and saved a lot of dollars. When you're in the area, try paying for some Essie, it stays on longer than OPI. read more

Self checkout: You bring your own shopping bag because you are a good citizen and CVS will give you tissue-thin pager bags with which they block the input side of the scanner. There are no baskets. Pick one: Juggle your selections, or join CVS's program of discouraging purchases of more than literally a handful. It was many visits before I was shown discreet button at screen's edge for being leave to use other than a CVS flimsy. If you do not do this, you willbe repeatedly dunned to bag the goods you just bagged. I put my bag on the outbound side, where it slips off and the Magic Voice tells me to put it in the bagging area. After the third try I said Hell with it an pressed cancel for a fresh start. "Stand by. Help is on the way." In my experience "help" meant an admin code to actually perform the cancellation, then walking away with no advice on how to avoid the trap. One minute. Two. Nobody in sight. I walked. A two-liter, a frozen meal, and some generic dandruff shampoo. CVS is on the case! I'm curious to know whether every neighborhood CVS puts customers through this. After this many years, it's deliberate. Target, three doors over (prompt and adaptable) doesn't. Neither does Walgreens four blocks away (no machines). I keep giving them another chance. Maybe it was a bad day. Nope: Try to give CVS your money and you've made an enemy for life. read more

I was in CVS today, and wanted to purchase mouth wash. It is locked up in glass cabinets. This is a problem for me because there is usually no one walking through out the store to help you. This has happened a couple of times. I usuall wind up giving up and leaving. But today there was a young lady in the aisle. So as I approached her she was talking with someone. When I thought she was done I asked her if she could give me access to the cabinet. I noticed she was taking pictures of items in the cabinets. (maybe for inventory.) She never answered or stopped what she was doing. So I looked around in the same aisle, thinking maybe she needed to finish what she was doing. Then I saw her leave the aisle with the woman she was speaking with earlier. I tried the cabinet and it was open. She could have told me it wasn't locked. This store is the most unhelpful CVS I have been in. read more

Seriously I had a complicated situation with my mom's blood pressure medication. A lot of back and forth with her doctor, issuing prescriptions that weren't authorized by Medicare and a lot of confusion. Laila, the pharmacy tech, at the end of a long day, patiently went through my mom's account to see what went wrong and how to solve the situation. She was super polite. I also appreciate that she explained the situation to me so that I would be better able to deal with future situations. The other pharmacy workers and the pharmacist also gave me tips on how to handle the situation I had in the future. Thank you so much!! read more

I called this Cvs 3 times for a total of 70 minutes in one day to ensure my prescription was there and ready and accurate because I had received texts saying medication I did not ask to refill was ready. I talked with Someone who said that they would put back the prescription I did not ask to be refilled and that my regular medication would be ready. So I call when I'm close to make sure that they have it right hold time 15 minutes. I can't move myself because of surgery so I sent in my girlfriend and she comes out 30 minutes later with the wrong prescription that is the one I specifically called and said I didn't need several times. They didn't include the prescription I requested. That store is a waste of time understaffed with huge lines and poor organizing so they can make a profit read more

This CVS is extremely dirty and dusty. Most products have an inch thick layer of dust on them. I wanted to buy some products from here, but they (especially on the lower shelves) were so dirty I decided not to. Previously, I bought a pair of stockings and when I took it home, a spider crawled out. I've also bought some ice cube trays from here and there was a dead bug in it. And recently, I saw a spider crawling around the products (see picture). The manager and associates need to be retrained on cleanliness and keeping the products and shelves clean. The workers need to dust and spray the shelves down regularly and vacuum the floors. read more

Why does Yelp delete my reviews? This is the 20th instance! Anyway I've came here plenty of times to visit my girlfriend when I'm in the area. It's a comparably small CVS to what I'm accustomed to in the suburbs but it's got everything you need. There's always a deal going around and I definitely reccomend those deals too. There's not alot of staff here so finding help can be hard. Lines move by really slow when there's people there. The parking lot isn't bad either. Yes there's parking security too. Pretty decent place to check out. read more

The pharmacist Tim who works at this location needs to be terminated and have his license revoked immediately. He is extremely rude and has no compassion for patients experiencing SSRI withdrawal symptoms, and no concern for his job. He refused to answer questions about when prescriptions could be filled while claiming that there was no stock of medication I was in need of. When I asked for his name and if there was a supervisor I could speak to he was nasty and told me to "just leave" after I expressed that it was a medical emergency. He should not be working in medicine. read more

I like the space of this store, and they are rarely out of what I need. We get so many good deals, and printed coupons (I know, the prinouts remind me of the Bill of Rights!) plus every quarter we get a % back. Walgreens takes FOREVER to reward us with points. read more

I went to the one minute clinic, I didn't have to wait and surprisingly got in and out pretty quick. My issue was the doctor (PA), as soon as I walked in I told her I have had a bad cough and flulike symptoms for 3 weeks. She stopped me and said we don't prescribe antibiotics since there is such an epidemic going on and then asked me if I still wanted to continue? Mind you, I have no insurance so going to the doctor is something I try to prevent at all cost but I had been told by coworkers and friends that it sounded bad and I needed to get it checked out. So I asked, "there is nothing I can do to get rid of this? could you at least make sure I don't have something more serious like bronchitis or a virus of some kind." She said yes and then decided to tell me about when she had a cough it lasted a month and this is completely normal during this time of the year. I asked her what she took to get rid of it and she said sutafed and worked like a charm. She said I should buy Sudafed and if I don't get better in two weeks to go to the doctor and get a chest X-ray. She listened for my lungs and said my oxygen level was 98 and that I didn't need to worry. I then told her the over the counter medicine that I had been taking to get rid of it which has not worked! - 4 bags of cough drops vix brand -one box of mucinex -one box of sudefed -4 bottles of day quil -1 bottle of NyQuil - a TON of vitamin C - got tea with honey and apple vinegar two times a day - and two tubs of vix - and do much aleve that it was not healthy She looked at me like I was crazy and said she would prescribe me some cough medicine. Which I looked up the ingredients and is the same as regular OTC cough medicine. Mind you this visit costed me $120 for bad advice and medicine that doesn't work. The next two days I felt worse then ever, I barely could get out of bed and was falling asleep in class. My energy level has been horrible and I couldn't wait for another two weeks of constantly coughing up mucus and religious heads aches. So I decided to go to rush and get a second opinion only two days later. And long and behold I have pneumonia! Plus I asked the doctor about the antibiotics epidemic that she was talking about and he said. That it is a problem but that He would never come out and say He won't prescribe you them without checking the patient first. He said it was good that I didn't get prescribed antibiotics since I do have pneumonia butt hat if I had waited two weeks I could have done real damage to my lungs. He said that the one minute clinics should only be used for flu shots! Although she was somewhat nice I would not recommend going there for any kind of treatment. Rush offers 100 check ups CHEAPER than cvs and you get to see real doctors that actually care. Sorry CVS! read more

I came into this CVS this morning and was in and out within 5 minutes. They had a plethora of cold medication for me to pick from and I like how many generic options they have in a range of products- medication, food, toiletries, etc. They also had quite a few drinks and food options in the refrigerated section. Furthermore, and crucially, they actually have plastic cutlery available for anything you buy from the refrigerated section. I hate when you buy a grab and go item from a drugstore (example yogurt) and they provide no spoon for you to eat your food with. I used the checkout woman and she was efficient. They also have a large parking lot in front of the store that they share with the other businesses in the shopping center. read more

Counter to a few other comments, I like the self checkout area and there's always the cashier behind the counter. I most frequently use the pharmacy which is relatively fast and efficient never waiting more than 15 minutes or so for my prescription (unlike a few other pharmacies in the area I've used.) I'm not an expert on these things but it appears to be a smaller size CVS, so it may not have all the items you're used to purchasing at other stores. Here is the second of my two CVS reviews. Hire better people! I asked for a courtesy swipe of the discount card and I guess they're discouraging that now because the cashier has to call for a supervisor to do it. Well he does, and the supervisor is screwing around and kept making the guy wait and joking about it. He then said it would be faster if I filled out the form to get one. I told him I had one at home to fill out and don't have the time, nor did I want to waste more plastic. Meanwhile, she still is joking around straightening a couple of items behind the register, I tell the guy I got to go, he tries to get her for the third time, she is still joking around with the other cashier next to this guy. I felt bad for the cashier, he saw I was getting ready to leave, and kept saying one second, one second. He genuinely seemed to feel bad about her antics and was apologetic. Disgusted with the whole thing, I leave my items on the counter and walk out. I won't be back. Sorry nice cashier, I know I kinda just ran out as if I were on fire, but I was ready to scream. It wasn't you, it was your supervisor. There's a reason why I prefer Walgreen's, one exception is the one on MLK at 35th. First, if it's on sale, it's on sale. No dumb key thingy. Second most of their pharmacies have late hours and they know how to count change. I had my most recent scripts sent to the CVS on Ogden because I moved and figured this one is close to my husbands office, so he could use the drive through, when I came into this CVS that's closer to home I thought, I can transfer them here. Must use the buggy, slow automatic checkouts while staff mill about looking grumpy and being unhelpful. There are 5 automatic checkouts and routinely 3 are not working. read more

If I had written this review a few months ago I would have given it a 2 stars but since things have improved I want to acknowledge it and even ENCOURAGE it (if at all possible....maybe they have Yelpers in their staff!) Anyway - I mainly go there for the pharmacy and the service used to be soooooooooooo bad. But now I never have to wait more than 2 minutes and they actually open another register when there's a queue!! I was even greeted the other day by a nice "Hello, nice to see you again!" from Ronald, the Rx manager. Ahhhhhh....it makes a world of difference! It's almost too quick now - I have hardly enough time to shop for bath and beauty products. Which saves me money!!! Thank you CVS! read more

I been using this store for years. The service has never been great. I still use it occasionally because I live close by. The staff here are pretty much clueless, brainless and ill-trained (the managers included). On my recent visit, one of the store front employee name Shaketa even got physical with me. She snatched product out of my hand, and scratched me with her nails. Looking at their yelp reviews, I realize I am not alone. If you are here to write about your terrible experience, phone/email CVS customer relations to tell them about it. Their phone number is 1-800-746-7287. You can reach a talking person that take complains by saying "feedback" first, then "comment" next. There's maybe a 2 mins wait. If you don't have time to call, you can write an e-mail to them. I like the new self-checkout--when it works and people check themselves out quickly and efficiently. If you go during peak times, you're liable to wait in line just as long as before when they only had the 3 registers. Try to get your shopping done here Wed-Fri; I think they restock during those days and that's when the shelves are most likely to have what you're looking for. Avoid going on a Monday if you can help it, after the weekends the shelves are almost always empty. I have always had excellent, fast, courteous service with the pharmacy. read more

I am going to give the Pharmacy a 5 stars rating. A few years ago I believe they hired a new pharmacy manager who has made a huge difference in how the pharmacy is run and organized. It has been years that I use them as my primary pharmacy and I have to say that they do a fantastic job. Every time I need help with a prescription they facilitate by calling the docs and refill it timely. As a note, during this recent Covid spike, I needed 2 urgent prescriptions and these guys filled them in no time. Also, the staff has been consistently courteous and helpful every time I pick up a prescription. Keep up the great work CVS pharmacy and thanks for your service! read more

The pharmacy is really good, but the rest of the CVS is horrible. There are always long, ridiculously slow lines at the registers. I swear there is ALWAYS some problem with one of the cashiers having trouble ringing something up, so you're standing there forever. Also, the 'family planning' section is locked up so you have to ask one of the scarce workers to get condoms, pregnancy tests, etc. for you. Same thing with hair dryers and razors and I don't know what else. read more

If it was not for a few good reasons, I'd probably never come to this store. Walgreens is definitely more my cup of tea than CVS on any day. However, my evil health insurance fills prescrips only through CVS. Let's face it, this location is slow, not the cleanest or most organized, and customer service leaves a bad taste in the mouth. The pharmacy is OK, but I don't expect much considering the rest of the store. The cosmetics section is usually way out of wack, especially compared to Walgreens on 53rd. Prices are not cheap here either. I am glad they have some services such as money gram (although the currency exchange down the road is usually much faster). The parking lot and redbox outside are the only redeeming factors for this store. This locations needs to clean up its act...or does it? read more

I hate even writing something negative about this location because for the most part, they are a GOOD a store; quite overpriced but good. The need to write this "bad" review is because I have come into this location about 3 times in a row (completely different times of day) to smell their RANCID mop/mop water/bucket. I don't know which it is but it smells awful. The only area that is fit for mopping is by the coolers so you definitely know if someone has mopped but it's DISGUSTING! The last time I came in, I heard one of the associates asking another, "Ooh you smell the mop. I think I left the bucket over there." Seriously?! How hard is it to change a bucket of water? How much TIME does that take? They MUST get it together. read more

This review is mostly for the quality of the pharmacy staff service, which manages complicated prescriptions AND remembers my name. Shout out to Stormy, best pharmacist ever! So they are out of a lot of new makeup and have a kind of random selection of goods at any given time, but stuff like Crispix and paper towels is a lot cheaper than Treasure Island. It kind of becomes weirdly charming and idiosyncratic to shop there after a while, like most things in Hyde Park. Plus, you will see 3 or 4 people you know at any given time, which I guess is a negative if you are buying stage four syphilis cream or whatever (joke: there is no such stage of syphilis!), but is nice in a neighbourhood-y way generally. Don;t expect them to have the latest shade of Essie polish or anything, but if you just need some bandaids or plastic garbage bags or lots of Gatorade, they've got you covered. Major bonus: CTA cards. read more

The CVS's I've been to in CA are far superior in service than this one. I came here looking for a 3-day bus pass, which I later found out they don't carry (only 1 and 7 days). I still ended up buying something small to get change, but the lady was rude when I asked for smaller denominations (aka mostly $1's and 5's). These people don't care if you live or die. I am forced to go to this CVS, because I am on Medicaid, because of several disabilities, and CVS bought Aetna Medicaid, so they could force us to go to CVS; they will not pay if I go to Walgreens, far superior, or any other pharmacy. I used to be able to go to any pharmacy I wanted. I have to get a ride, or take a taxi to get to this CVS, because it is the closest to me. I call ahead of time to make sure I won't have to wait, because of my mental disabilities. I have to fight VM, and stay on hold for 1-3 hours. Yet somehow my meds are still not done after hours of waiting to come. I'm always trying to get my meds on one visit, and I talk to one person, and they will help me do that, then the next person pushes the dates I have to come to get my meds further apart. I have had Panic Attacks in the pharmacy, because of the way I'm treated, and several times the pharmacists have demanded I get out of the store, or they would call the police! "You won't be getting any prescriptions today!" Let's say it would take days for the attacks to stop, unless I had a medical worker to go in for me. Horrible. A state id is by its definition an id issued by the state . My id issued by the state of Illinois where I work is then a State ID. Good enuff for cops, banks to withdraw cash, and even get controlled substances as prescriptions from a CVS on the north side.BUT here in Hyde Park I cant buy zyrtec because the girl at the pharmacy can not understand that the state of illinois id is in fact a state id tjus the name STATE OF ILLINOIS and even says STATE OF ILLINOIS IDENTIFICATION. So here i suffer because somebody does not understand English. read more

The wait in the pharmacy is almost always unbearable. The pharmacists/ pharm techs are friendly though. They are often out of things, especially cosmetics like face wash and lotion. And they never have someone working the registers, just the self check-out, which would be fine if half of them weren't always broken. read more

The employees at this CVS are ridiculous. They will not help you find things, they will make you wait in long lines and not open other registers. They leave garbage on the floor. They are rude. They will let you complete your whole photo order on the photo kiosk before telling you that the machine is broken and won't print your photos. This is the worst CVS I've ever been to. You'll find much better service at the Walgreens on 55th and Lake Park. read more

I found what I was looking for after not finding it at Walgreens, but what is with the checkout plan? It was 99% self-checkout, which was not remotely intuitive, but there were a lot of friendly staff available to explain it, who might have been better employed just checking people out. The whole experience was such a pain in the ass that I attempted to leave my purchase there by accident, but was prevented by the nice young man who provided tech help with the self-checkout. I suppose the sudden window into what it will be like to be a crabby and forgetful old lady was instructive, but it doesn't make me want to go back there. The place seems to be well staffed (good people, and enough of them) but not well managed. And I'm a Loop CVS fan, even defending the one near Jackson and State that has vocal detractors. read more

I have been a frequent customer at various CVS locations for the past 4 years, but the customer service (or lack thereof) at this particular store has convinced me never to enter a CVS ever again. The pharmacy does not appear understaffed, yet the line for pickup usually has 5-10 people in it. This wouldn't be an issue if it did not take several minutes per customer. Both at the front of the store and at the pharmacy I have found that the majority of the employees are bored, inattentive, or even occasionally outright rude. I will LITERALLY NEVER SET FOOT INSIDE A CVS AGAIN because of repeated, terrible customer service experiences at this location. read more

I live right near Hyde Park Produce, but often don't want to pay extra for the high-quality organic fare that is the norm for Hyde Park Produce. I usually go to CVS first for some staple foods (e.g. bread, peanut butter) and then buy produce at Hyde Park Produce. CVS often has very good deals if you've got your CVS card (peanut butter was 2 for 2.40 last time I went) and keep your eyes open. In summary: cheaper than Hyde Park Produce and (for me at least) closer than Treasure Island, so it's good to at least take a look. read more

The pharmacy experiences I've had there have always been excellent - but the rest of the store has been horrible. I have had a number of experiences where the prices on the shelves are not the prices that get rung up - so beware. At one of the wrong price experiences, the checkout person at the pharmacy walked over to the shelf with me to see the price advertised. Turns out, I had missed the small print on the tag showing that the price didn't start until the next day (it was mid-morning when I was there). The current price was nowhere on the shelf. Seems like a deceptive practice to me - which I could have excused as a mistake if mis-labeled prices on shelves hadn't become a more frequent occurrence. One other item that had a different price on the shelf was given to me at the lower price - but it surely didn't look like anyone planned to change the shelf tag. I'm going to keep going to the pharmacy when I have to, but avoid the rest of the store. read more

They really know their customers by name and they are friendly. There's a new pharmacist and she is really compassionate. She takes time to meet customers and gives advice.
