The pharmacy consistently has the worst service, always. It's always understaffed - no one answers the phone when you call, and there is always a long line, when it's open - today several of us waited until 8:15am and no one was in to open up (supposed to open at 8am). Twice in the last two months I have received a text that my prescription is ready to pick up, only to arrive and be told they are out of stock and can't tell me if/when it will be in stock. Both times they told me they transferred it to another pharmacy and directed me there, and both times when I went to the new pharmacy I was told they never received the transfer. Terrible service and will start using my health insurance's mail order prescription service instead! read more

I want to preface this by saying that I'm only reviewing the pharmacy part of this location. The grocery store part of this location is fine, and has good, respectful, and helpful staff. The pharmacy on the other hand is probably the worst I've ever seen. Like other reviewers have mentioned, don't even bother calling here, as none of the pharmacist or the pharmacy staff answers the phone. I've caught them first hand not answering the phone, during times when they were not busy with customers. The pharmacist was an Asian lady. When I asked her why no one is answering the phone, and I showed her that I was calling, she gave me a very disgusted look. The pharmacy staff is also a mixed bag. Sometimes they're friendly and professional, other times they're awful. One of the pharmacy staff (don't know his name) is a very tall and large man. He had a habit of announcing a private medication I was taking very loudly so other people can hear. I told him "hey man, can you not announce that to the world, that's personal" and ever since that day he's given me a poor attitude everytime I go there to pick up a script and he's working. He gives me a nasty/annoyed look as if I personally insulted him that day all because I told him not to announce my private medication I was taking out to the world. They're computer systems over there are also a complete mess and is always getting things confused and messed up. Numerous times I've had trouble picking up a prescription because the computer said that I already picked up said prescription and it was too soon to pick it up again, even though I pick up my prescription the same day every week-2 weeks. Problems like this make getting important prescriptions extremely stressful. And again, when you tell the pharmacist and the staff that the computer is wrong, they cop an attitude as if you're burdening them because you need your prescription. Corporate really needs to take charge here and do a complete overhaul of this locations pharmacy. Most of Charlestown knows how awful this location is. Even my doctors office (which is also in Charlestown) acknowledges how awful this location is as my pcp has stated she is always having problems there. If corporate is reading this please do something about this pharmacy. Again, I want to reiterate, the grocery half of this location is totally fine. It's the pharmacy that's the 1 star! read more

Its CVS, I mean you know what you get in there right... But I felt the need to review this because I encountered one of the nicest Managers (at least I think he was a mgr) Ive ever dealt with and I think people who go out of their way for great customer service should be recognized... So Ryan was his name and he was standing in the door when I entered just greeting people & telling them to ask if they needed anything... HOW NICE RIGHT?! Well I actually did need something, on the bottom shelf and in the very back and I didnt want to lay on the floor - Well RYAN DID!!! And they were actually out of what I was looking for (Fruit snacks for my son - hey dont judge... anything I can do to avoid a 5 Year old melt down I try to do!) So they were out of the kind I usually buy but there were others and he offered to give me them at a sale price (2.50 difference) so YAY Ryan... It just made me smile, customer service is HUGE to me & I just appreciate when people actually still have some common decency & are polite! Great Job Ryan, CVS you should be proud! read more

This is the closest CVS to me and it's always extremely busy especially in the pharmacy. The benefit is that if you have to wait for over a half hour or longer, there is a Dunkin' Donuts and a Whole Foods market right next door! Everyone is pretty friendly and helpful if needed. There is a huge parking lot and plenty of street parking if needed. Friendly tip, if you are going to the pharmacy, call ahead of time to ensure it is ready! All in all, great location and friendly staff. read more

10/10 would recommend... on Opposite Day. Not sure if there's a staffing problem or overall lack of organization, but this CVS is my least favorite place on earth. I have to hype myself up before getting in line at the pharmacy because I usually end up in tears (out of frustration). Your prescriptions are never going to be ready on the same day they tell you they're ready. Sometimes, they'll never be ready...in which case, you have to get used to working with your doctor to send them to a new location. Getting anxiety just thinking about this place. I'm writing this review as I perform my monthly ritual of calling in my prescription refill and waiting upwards of an hour for a 30 second phone call. Nobody answers the phone at this pharmacy. It becomes extra infuriating when something like getting prescriptions filled with new insurance takes multiple hours and days of my life. Awful pharmacy. read more

Pharmacy- ugh. I'm w/in walking distance, so it makes sense. I had my script xfered from a different location; the one they've been filling every 90 days for 7+ years. I called, had it xfered, and asked them to make sure it was a 90 day supply. They assure me it will be a 90 day supply. My MD only refills it once, so I see him every 6 months. They call to tell me it's filled. Upon arrival, its a 30 day supply. They tell me BCBS doesn't do a 90 day fill. Really? They have for the last 7+ years. And I certainly don't see my MD every 60 days for the last 7+ years to get the script refilled. So they give me a 10 day supply and tell me to come back in 4 days. AND ITS THE WRONG BRAND. Good thing I called to help them avoid the screw up. And thank GAWD it's not mental health meds. Which I may need if this keeps up. read more

Had a family member be told when an existing prescription was submitted for refill and paid for via the app that the medication was out of stock and they would call when it was in. A week later, down to last pill, yet no call from them. We call, only to be told it's still out of stock. When asked what we were supposed to do suggested we call the doctor to get a substitution, or get it from another CVS. It was only when we insisted they call the Medford location to see if it was in stock there, that we learned they had it in stock. Drive 2 miles down the road to pick up the script. If you tell someone a medication is out of stock, and then it is still out a week later, that's a sign someone is not maintaining the inventory correctly, or placing orders for needed inventory. This family member is on a specific regimen of pills that work together, and to suggest the doctor substitute or that the customer (not the pharmacist) check with another CVS to see if they had it in stock is IMO totally unacceptable customer service. read more

I'm the first to review this location? People in Charlestown need to get off their butts (mine included) and review some more places around here! Le sigh. Anyway, this CVS aint so bad - but it aint so good either. It's not like the prices are any different, but it's a little smaller than some around Downtown Boston, so there might be less variety. Lines are pretty small all the time though, and I do like people there. Alas, the best part about CVSs, the Sovereign Bank ATMs, is completely lacking in this one. -1 star. Please put one in! Well, for the fourth time, in a row, they have messed up on the prescription that I have phoned in, But I am mandated to use CVS for my diabetic test strips, as opposed to my usual wonderful pharmacy in Inman Square. Just do your job. Fill a prescription in a timely manner - if you don't have it available, notify the patient and/or physician. Do this in a timely manner, not at the last minute, not waiting until the patient comes in. Saying things like "the computer said it was stocked" so it's not your fault, or that you're extremely backed up isn't an excuse nor helpful. Take ownership. read more

I live in walking distance to this location, so it is my default pharmacy. Over the years, I have definitely experienced the ups and down with this location. Given the size of the location, they do tend to pack a lot in there, especially after the facelift it got within the last few years. It seems like I am always getting coupons via email for 25%, plus there can be some good promotions running once you get to the store. For the ladies, there's a decent cosmetics section, with the major brands available plus a fair amount of perfumes for sale as well. The seasonal section rotates with the times, but as summer approaches there are coolers, sun chairs, and other beach-related items for sale. The prices aren't terrible, but toss in one of those coupons and you are in good shape. There is a photo processing section as well, and I've found it helpful when I needed to get passport photos for a visa. Also, if the post office is closed (ie: Saturday afternoons and Sundays) you can buy stamps at this location as well. Finally, in the office supply section, I've gotten good deals on printer cartridge refills (again the 25% off coupons help). The pharmacy has definitely been the most inconsistent part of the store for me. I pick up a monthly prescription from this location. Since it is a recurring one, I've signed up for automatic refills and in the beginning I would get a voicemail reminding me that it was available. All of the sudden it just stopped (and I didn't change my phone number). I spoke with the pharmacy staff about it and they assured me I would receive the notification, but it seems like it is lost and gone forever. Now, it may seem nitpicky, but I find it a bit perplexing since it did actually work at one point. Now, on the plus side, my prescriptions are being filled in a timely manner. So it's more of a slight on the technology not the people there. If you live in Charlestown, it's kind of the only game in town (especially while we are in the purgatory between the death of Johnnie's and the birth of Whole Foods). read more

Customer service and waiting time to drop or pick up a prescription is just ridiculous. Every time it takes over 15min to just dropped it and other 15 min to pick up. Either the system they use is not efficient or they need more pharmacists on the department. No apology is said for the long waiting. read more

This CVS has a decent selection of products and prices are comparable to others. Coupons are usually useless (in all CVS) unless they're for $$$ off register total. Parking is no problem here. BUT, shopping carts are never available, the aisle are often unpassable due to large boxes in the way. On a recent trip, 2 of us couldn't look at the "Revlon" section because of large, stacked boxes . If you're multi-lingual, no problem communicating with the staff, who often don't know where products are located. The pharmacy needs to do much better, since it often takes many, many calls to have prescriptions ready. read more

This CVS is a mess and completely disorganized. The lines for the cashier are usually very long/into the aisles because the self-checkouts are always mysteriously down. The staff are nice and do what the can, but don't expect help if your having trouble in the self checkout. read more

Awful. I don't know if the CVS chain as a whole is falling apart or if I've just consistently had bad experiences here, make that pretty terrible when it comes to the pharmacy. No matter how many people are in line, there is always a wait. Sometimes 15-20 minutes. The techs and pharmacists behind the counter are unresponsive, often don't acknowledge you even just to say ' be with you shortly'. Almost every single time I've been to pick up a RX it is wrong - either charged to the wrong insurance, wrong address (one I haven't lived at for 6 years) or been returned to stock or not ready at the desired time I requested for pick-up. SO FRUSTRATING! If you have the option for mail-order RX with your insurance, definitely take that. A huge waste of time. read more

I had never been this impressed by workers at cvs. I had to make a cd disk from my iPhone. I knew I can do it but had no idea how. This location was the closest that came up on my google search. Very nice shopping area. From outside I thought it has to be a tiny store, but I was wrong. As I walked in I was greeted by a employee standing in front just for that purpose. I asked her where the photo department was and if she could get me help. She said she can help. I gave her my iPhone and told her what i need it. She said I needed to have Kodak app on my phone. Since I had no idea what she was talking about, I handed her my phone and she did it for me. Of course I didn't have reception in the store and had to go outside. When I came back some one else had taken over. He called the assistant manager to come and help me out. A long story short very patiently he went through all my pictures with me and I choose what to put in the cd. Now that's what I call customer service. read more
