This CVS Pharmacy on 400 Washington Street is just about the worst in service. I waited 30 minutes for a prescription that they "accidentally" canceled and then the pharmacy manager comes over and tried to upsell to me a pneumonia vaccine that she claims I really need and that it is the last one she has in inventory. This is beyond laughable how a supposed CVS professional tried this old used car high pressure sales trick on me. Another persistent pet peeve is the pharmacy employees refuse to wear their name tags and so it's impossible to file complaints about the ridiculous antics going on at this CVS. read more

CVS has a such corner on the miserable shopping experience they should take out a patent. It's hard to determine what's the worst part of the experience- the phone they never answer, deodorant kept behind a case, the pharmacy that keeps the hours of a bank, or the revolving door of unhelpful associates. Tonight's experience takes the cake. There were at least FOUR employees at the store this evening and NOT ONE person at the register. Actually, when I approached the register an associate walked away from it leaving behind him an unbelievably strong odor of marijuana. Perhaps it wasn't from him, but there was nobody else around. I used the self-checkout since I was ignored by him and the others, and I was then ignored again when I was prompted for the age verification. I called this pharmacy last month to see if they a medication in stock. As a result I waited for 20 Minutes and then was answer by someone saying oh crap and hung up. I called back and was still on the elevator line hoping someone pick up. Long story short customer service at all cvs need a total haul in customer etiquette. I can only echo the other comments on the pharmacy's customer service. They put me on hold twice for twenty minutes until I gave up. I went in to the store, and they told me they would fill my prescription and to have a seat. Twenty five minutes later I asked them what the story was, someone checked and then told me they didn't have it in stock. No apology, no care. Unbelievable. read more

I want to like this CVS because it's in a great location, has parking, and is across the street from the most to-die for eclairs around at the New Paris Bakery (note: great location). However, the line is always painfully long (because waiting until there are 10 pp waiting, and THEN calling for backup is a good idea), rarely will you find what you are looking for, and I just can't get over the fact that there was not a single Diet Coke in the store yesterday. Consistently filthy. Pharmacy department lazy and incompetent. CVS corporate harvests you personal information and sells it unabashedly and excessively. They also disregard your requests for privacy. Just this morning, I could not get through to them by phone for hours. Finally got though, waited on hold for over 20 minutes, then the call is disconnected. A prescription that they wanted to charge $70 for is $18 as Walgreens. It's unlike me, but I have nothing good to say about them. read more

After too many screw ups and poor customer service from both pharmacy and front of house staff I will no longer shop this, or any other CVS for that matter, ever again. Even though this is the most convenient location to me I can no longer take the stupidity and incorrectly filled scripts/excuses for not having my monthly needed prescription in stock - EVER - in spite of my repeated requests to keep an extra one on hand for me, that I was even willing to pre-pay for, in case they were worried about get stuck with an item that isn't usually needed by too many people. There's a woman in particular who is a pharmacy tech, whom I shall not publicly name, that needs to have been fired a long, long time ago. These terrible reviews are absurd! Even though I haven't been to any of the other 4 CVS stores in Brookline (Brookline is large enough to hold FIVE, yes FIVE CVS locations!). This CVS location is at the main intersection of Washington Street and School / Cypress Streets in Brookline, close to Route 9 and Washington Square. In comparison to more and more of the suburban CVS stores (and other pharmacies for that matter), this store is most definitely much smaller. However, I disagree with all of the 1-star "eek!" reviews. Pros to this location: Easily accessible: Much less busy than either of the Coolidge Corner locations. HAS PARKING: Both the other CVS locations in Coolidge Corner, and both of the Commonwealth Avenue (Rt 20) do not have any parking lot's like this. Yes, one of the Coolidge locations does have access to a parking lot, but that parking lot is ALWAYS packed and never is stress free. Here, the lot has about 20 spaces, and is for CVS only. The rest of the CVS stores in Brookline don't have parking lots at all, and only on street parking. Good variety and not overly priced: It has all the basics, and some extras as well. Maybe not as much as some of the larger stores, and it doesn't have a seasonal section, but it still has all medicine, health needs, food, photo, office supplies, household, beauty, and cleaning. Each section was well stocked and the small space used well. Additionally, I thought the prices would have been higher, which they weren't, rather the same as any other CVS store. Helpful staff: Lukas at the checkout area was very friendly, helpful, and efficient with the line today. Plastic bags: Brookline was one of the seventeen (I believe) cities that banned plastic bags (just regular plastic). This CVS location has super cool 80% post-consumer recycled material. In comparison, Newton also has this law, but the CVS stores in Newton only have paper bags.... they must start hearing about how Brookline is going around the law! Great alternative! Cons to this location: ONLY 1! Checkout: Yes, the staff are friendly and helpful here.... but simply put, there aren't enough of them around! The line was going into Aisle 4 today (I got in line in the knick of time and didn't even need to wait!), right as I was going though. There should be more employees working here! Overall, this is a fine CVS location in this section of Brookline, and by far the best if you need a store with parking. I would return here over the others when in the area in the future. 4 stars. read more

You know those times that intead of going your usual way, you turn a corner and discover something cool and interesting? Yeah this CVS was kinda like that. OK, while CVS's are all over in Boston like white on rice, but I live close to here and I had never seen it. It was pretty empty, the store is kinda on the small side but well stocked with the basics. One think I like is that they do not have those automatic check out things so you deal with an actual person, how about that? Worst pharmacy I have ever dealt with. Automatic refills by phone doesn't work, so you have to wait hours on the phone to reach an incompetent pharmacist who is likely to screw up your order anyway. CVS doesn't care about customer care or satisfaction...their success is based on the fact that there are only 2 pharmacy corporations in Brookline. I had a CRAZY sore throat and wanted some cough drops. I walk in and there's this guy in my face looking at me like I'm a bitch for trying to find my cough drops in the impulse counter. Cause, you know, they never put the little Halls Cube Packs at the impulse counter. Mhmm. So I ask him,... "Do you guys not carry this product?" it's on the left No.. it's not. I don't know why, but the CVS stores in Boston have OK to good customer service. I cannot say the same for the CVS stores in Brookline. This particular store takes bad customer service to a new level. Employees are generally unhelpful, never smile, and some are absolutely rude. The store itself is small and cramped although they do have a lot of items in stock including food and snacks. Now I take my business to the Walgreen's not far from this store, which has a better store layout, its a bigger store, and with friendlier staff. read more

Was great until this new pharmacist (transferred here from the larger CVS in Coolidge Corner). Rude and knowingly did not follow dispensing instructions from doctor on the prescription. They have an icee machine, which is pretty nice for the summer....and that's about it. This CVS is grossly understaffed in every aspect of their departments. The lines are always extremely long on off peak hours and there is never anyone available at photo. Ever. read more

This CVS is the worst. Unfortunately we live close by and end up popping in from time to time. I have never been rung up in less than ten minutes... Even when grabbing a Gatorade. The manager doesn't care when none of the registers are working, he smiles. He has the same poor kid working alone at the register every day. Today they were dealing with a problem customer... Manager was called.....15min later he came down meanwhile they did nothing...didn't take us at the pharmacy or anything. Also there is nothing on the shelves... Apathetic staff, a price-checker machine that still has the pre-Obamacare 2010 FSA-eligible products marked, and empty shelves that look like it's teetering on the edge of closing. Why else should you avoid this CVS location? Oh, pharmacy staff largely blows. AVOID THIS ONE AT ALL COSTS. I have an annual prescription that, ya know, goes for TWELVE WHOLE MONTHS like an annual prescription should, right? I cannot tell you how many times I have gone to pick it up (because it's on AutoRefill) and been told, "oh, we don't get that anymore, so we have to special order it from another pharmacy" or have to get my Rx transferred to another branch for six months because that one gets it regularly. HOW HARD CAN IT BE? Oh, and the other brill excuse is--again, I'm on Auto Refill here--getting a call saying the Rx showing up on Monday, a day late--then arriving on said Monday and being told, no, sorry, Tuesday, because the pharmacist forgot to call it in. Ok, it's not like things for me are life-threatening without my RX, but pharmacists shouldn't be this sloppy. I've been in line behind plenty of people who need a few scripts who get put off a day. This place is so inefficient. I worked as a pharmacy tech for 8 years and I'm appalled at their service and overall slowness. The people are nice, but never expect anything to be ready on time. They'll tell you your prescription is ready and you can show up 30 minutes later and they're "working on it". Never go here! read more
