Unfortunately I did not have a good experience with CVB plumbing. My tankless water heater had a specific code 3 error. This code is related to the igniter. I told him that and asked if we could just fix that part. They told me that it was not fixable and that I had to do a flush to figure out if it was going to start working again. After checking it out and after doing the flush the heater still did not work. They said the next step was to get a new water heater which is 3k plus. Of course I decided to get a second opinion before spending that much money. My second opinion company said code 3 is the igniter, he showed me the igniter (cvb did not even show me that piece) which was clearly broken and replaced that one piece costing $15 and my whole system was working again. CVB plumbing did not even show me the igniter part so I'm not sure if they were hiding that to get my business for a whole new water heater or they just did not know what the igniter was. In addition a flush was completely unnecessary and unrelated to the error code 3. They have refused to give me any sort of refund. I am thankful I got a second opinion or else I would have been spending $3k on a new water heater as they suggested. read more

This is Jimmy Z to report John Barger of CVB Plumbing is the rudest, most unreasonable and arrogant service technician in any industry. I did not believe it when on Better Business Bureau (BBB) a customer said John was so arrogant and rude that he had to tell John to leave his property, but I do now. Prior to 8/26/2022 the service date, I had to press the Reset button on my Navien tankless water heater every 2-3 weeks to get hot water. Hence, I called CVB Plumbing asking to fix my No-Hot-Water problem. I said I wanted a diagnosis to find and fix the root cause. On 8/26/2022 John came and charged a high $195 for about an hour of work to "flush" the unit, which did not do a thing as No-Hot-Water happened again in 2 weeks on 9/10/2022. I could have hit the Reset on 8/26 to get 2 weeks' hot water myself. Today 9/12 he came and immediately started accusing me of harassing him by my submitting a customer comment on the link he provided. He did not do anything and just left. * He said he had not seen the error code on the unit, so what did he see on 8/26 when there was no hot water, and code E012 was clearly in display? * He will not warrant his own work as I asked him more than once. On 9/10 he said over the phone that it would be the flow sensor because "flushing" did not work, and if the new sensor did not work then he would know that it would something else. So, he did not know much about Navien and by the time he had exhausted all such try-n-error's I could have saved all of his high service charges to buy a new heater. So much for the "20 years of Navien experience" he has boasted. * Again, he never diagnosed the problem as requested. On 8/26 he rushed to start the so-called "flushing" and he did not do anything today 9/12. He just kept saying "go find someone else" as he did not have a clue about what happened with my Navien. A man in good conscience will not hold on to his $195 service charge for doing nothing. read more

I heard about Jay through a friend and asked for an estimate to replace old full spin shower knobs for my laundry room washer with standard 1/4 turns. Jay provided an estimate for a single visit (more work for the drywaller) and a two-visit (stubbing out initially and returning when the drywall was done). Both estimates were reasonably priced, and much more affordable than I'd been quoted on several other local companies. Not only did he do an excellent job, but he was happy to look at other issues in the house and give his opinion and provide ballpark estimates. And on top of it, since I'd spent the time and effort to remove the drywall in preparation for his visit, he didn't charge me what he'd estimated, as he said his estimate had included time for removing the drywall. His honesty is refreshing -- he could have easily charged me the extra money as it wasn't discussed in our emails. I will definitely be calling Jay for any future plumbing needs. I had CVB Plumbing come out to repair my water heater and the guy they sent showed up with a bad attitude. When he got out of his truck and saw me he's like, can I help you? It through me off and I said your here to look at my water heater. Just arrogant, after looking at my water, he said he had to call his office with the price and get back to me. Strange how he could not just give me a price so I could just approve the work. By the time they called me I told him to just leave. I found another company with nice guys to fix it the same day for less. read more

Jay from CVB was the third quote that we got for a water main break between the street and the house. The first quote was for $4000 from an unnamed company. They just gave the quote and shy'ed away from answering an questions. The second was in the same ballpark and was trying to sell me PVC line. I got a hold of Jay and he was honest and open about the other quotes. He said that the main cost was in the trenching and recommended that I find a landscaper to do that work. Then helped me understand the pros and cons of PVC vs copper. Ultimately the investment in copper was worth the higher cost due to the durability with the large tree in close vicinity. I took his advice on the trenching and contracted him to execute the work. It was done in 3 hours and for half the cost of the others. Four months later I noticed a bit of a leak and call CVB. I was only able to leave a message. I described the problem and left my name and address... mid day the next day I got a call from Jay saying that he went by the house, checked it and found a twisted gasket. He repaired/replaced it and said all was covered under the warranty. Super pleased and have a sense of calm knowing that I have a plumber that I trust and can rely on. Cheers to CVB. read more

On July 2, CVB plumbing sent out a plumber who was beyond incompetent but also invasive. Although my landlord initiated the service of a plumber over a washing machine issue (Which definitely was at the fault of my landlord and should have just been dealt with through the manufacturer of the washing machine), the plumber Jay spent an hour and half doing no work and being creepy at the same time. Jay spent 30 minutes in the house before walking into my room and telling me he wasn't sure what the problem was with washing machine. I told him it was backed up and went to look at it. He was surprised upon opening the lid of the washing machine and seeing that it was full of water which was a dead giveaway that he had not even looked at it in his 30 minutes of doing "work". He acted very odd when I found him in my roommate's room (who wasn't home at the time) and slipped out of the room, barely opening the door enough to get out before closing it quickly. He came into my room one more time before he left an hour and half later to tell me that it was indeed a machine issue (......which could have most likely been assessed within the first 20 minutes....) He said the washing machine rep would have to come out to take a look at it and that he couldn't do anything. I asked if he had a pump that he could use to at least help get the water out of the machine but he refused to help, claiming at first that he "didn't have one" and then changing his story to only having a large one. He left the house because his work was done but sat in his truck for another 15 minutes just looking at the house. I went back into my room and a few minutes later heard a man's voice in the house. He was informing my 3rd roommate that he had forgotten "something" (and wouldn't specify what) in the other roommate's room so he needed to get it and proceeded to walk into the unattended room. My roommate followed him and asked what he forgot and if he had found it, to which he said that he "must not have forgotten it after all" (whatever "it" is?) and left empty handed. Regardless of the issue stemming from the actual machine and not from there being a plumbing problem, Jay was very unprofessional and overstepped common sense boundaries. While I can clearly not speak of his actual work seeing as I saw NO WORK take place, I would recommend going a different route in plumbers completely, due to the unprofessional behavior. He wasted an hour and a half of time doing nothing and proceeded to make myself and my other female roommate feel incredibly uncomfortable. read more

I just had a new gas line installed by CVB and Jay did great work and was very helpful and explained things. He also fixed a couple of leaky valves we had for our washing machine. This was the second time I called CVB and both jobs were done fine. My only downgrade is that you need to go through an answering service to reach them and so communication was a little split up as I was submitting my own drawings to the City for the permit. Emailing did help. Everything worked out ok in the end though. I would call them again. (And he came and gave me a free estimate for the gas line too... other places wanted to charge to come out and see what had to be done to install the gas line). read more

I recently had my bathroom countertop replaced in my rental unit and I needed a plumber who could come out and set up all of the plumbing that had been taken apart during the work. I called around to 3 different places and decided CVB was the way to go. I called and left a message for CVB Plumbing and they got back to me before the business day was over (so not really the most ideal if you are in an emergency plumbing situation). Jay was really nice and gave me a quote over the phone, and between the 3 different plumbers I had spoken to that day, he gave me the most useful information and offered the best quote. I had gotten the recommendation from the property management company I was using, and they use him quite a bit, so they came highly recommended. Jay arrived right when he quoted me. He did a great job of the work and was really nice and helpful. Luckily the work I needed done was pretty simple and straight forward, so I cant speak to more complex plumbing issues, but I do need some additional plumbing work in my own home, so I will be calling them again to schedule a new appointment soon. CVB was recommended by my real estate agent. I lived in St. Louis when I bought a fixer upper in San Diego. From the first phone call, Vic was knowledgeable, informative and even ballparked the job from my verbal description which included new pipe from the kitchen, bath and a new main sewer line run of approx. 50 feet. Vic provided an estimate a cou[ple days later and then performed all the work while I was in St. Louis wrapping up the sale of my home there. When I came back the work was done properly and per the original estimate. Vic & Jay are great! We even had an issue with the city where the sewer hooked up and Vic got them out there, argued with them that the issue was their problem as it was under the street and ultimately, San Diego made the final repairs at no charge to me. Now we are opening a small business that will require plumbing and Vic has come to two possible locations to help us make sure the sites will work for our use.
