Cutting my finger with a dull knife was the last straw and motivated me to get my knives sharpened. Did a yelp search and since Cutting Edge Sharpening came up with raving 5 star reviews, I took 5 kitchen knives to Wolf this afternoon which he sharpened in about 15 minutes. He even oiled the wooden handle of one of the knives and noticed and smoothed out the roughness on one of the knives' nonsharp edge. They are now so sharp!! I told Wolf that we like watching Forged in Fire on TV and I told him he should be a contestant. I purchased a new 'shave ready' straight razor that wasn't close to being shave ready. I brought it in to Cutting Edge along with a Wustoff Chef and pairing knife that needed sharpening. Service was fast, only 15 minutes. I spent the evening happily cooking and cutting with my sharper than new kitchen knives. As far the the straight razor goes, you can tell your blade is ready to cut when you are able to cut the hairs on your arm by just passing the blade about mid height on the hairs (not using any force or touching the skin). After bringing it to Cutting Edge it passes no problem. My shave this morning was smooth and easy. If you shave with a straight razor and haven't had it sharpened professionally, bring it in to Cutting Edge. In addition to the excellent quality of work I wanted to mention the customer service. When I arrived another gentlemen had just showed up with about 15 knives to sharpen. Knowing it would be a long wait the owner asked the other gentlemen if he would mind it if we sharpened my knives first since it wouldn't take long. Thoughtful and much appreciated. In addition, I left with full knowledge on how to maintain and tune up my knives and straight razor. I called back the next morning to ask where I could locally purchase the materials we talked about for tuning up the blades and the owner was happy to help and pointed me towards several shops. I got all my parents knives sharpened here about a month ago. They are in much better shape now! So sharp! I actually came here about 20 years ago to get my parents knives sharpened back in the day...Same workshop location and everything. I love that the owner is actually a skilled blacksmith and artisan! So much cooler to have your knives sharpened here than going to some kitchen place like Williams Sonoma. Gray did an amazing job with my grandmother's bolo (machete) knife! I was over the moon with how Gray restored Grandma's bolo with regards to keeping the historical integrity of the deep scratches that came with living on a plantation. The long blade is razor sharp and oiled. The brass band between the blade and wooden handle is so polished it looks like 14k gold. And that's not all -- Gray made me a leather sheath that fits like a glove, protects the blade (and me) as well as completing the knife as a valued family heirloom. Needing a professional sharpener to transform my uniformly dull kitchen knives, I googled and found "Wolf", owner/operator of Cutting Edge Sharpening. A veteran of the US Army's famed 75th Ranger Regt, now blacksmith/knife designer, Wolf clearly knows his business. A more pleasant gentleman I've yet to meet. His five star reviews speak for themselves. But it's his service that was the clincher. I delivered 8 knives that could barely cut Velveeta and ripe bananas and he returned to me in less than 2 hours 8 razor sharp knives of all sizes and shapes that could be used for shaving in a pinch. And the price is right! $5 minimum per knife and $1 an inch beyond 5 inches. I'd recommend calling for appointments because Wolf operates out of his forge/workshop in a seemingly abandoned, multi-colored, corrugated tin garage with no parking other than on the street. I needed 10 kitchen knives sharpened, a machete,cane knife,axe, and a roofing axe/hammer that needed to be sharpened and heavy rust removed with the handles either repaired or replaced. So I called this company that offered a "mobile" knife sharpening service I left a message and waited for a return call. A week later still no call, but I figured maybe they're busy so I called again, after 3 days still no call. So I decided to call Cutting Edge Sharpening and left a message a few minutes later I got a call back from Wolf( that's a cool f@cken!! name). Arranged a meeting at his shop where I got a quote on the kitchen knives and the other stuff I brought in. He was able to sharpen my knives within an hour but I had to leave the rest with him because it required a lot of work. The knives were the sharpest they've ever been,sharper than when I bought them new. But what really made me want to give 5 stars was the work he did on the machete and axes I mean it was in BAD shape. So many times I've looked at them and thought about just throwing it away, but it was my fathers tools and that cane knife was something he used when he worked the cane fields. It had sentimental value to me and he brought it back to life. Some were in pretty bad shape with nicks on the cutting edge. I checked in my knives and went across the street to Times to get a take-out lunch. By the time I got my lunch and walked back, it was done! All were sharper than when they were purchased, and he even polished some of the knives to get rid of the surface stains.
