There are a ton of options, but it can take a while to find that right one that just meshes with your own tastes. You want that mixture of great service, price, and ease of access. I've been going to the same place to get my haircut for the last several years. Due to an unexpected emergency at the shop, I had to scramble to find a new place to get a haircut while under a deadline. I booked an appointment for Scissors & Scotch as it had great reviews online. When you walk in the first thing you encounter is a bar. Scissors & Scotch has a bit of an unusual model that I didn't expect. They work on a subscription basis so it is closer to joining a gym then just being a regular at at barber/salon. Depending upon what level you join at increases the type of alcohol you have access to (e.g. basic = draft beers, higher levels = top shelf liquor). It is kind of a nice idea, and the vibe is one that is unique to shops I've been to. The haircut I got was pretty good and the stylist I got was personable. Overall all of the staff were very welcoming. So given these positive things, why am I overall giving a relatively poor rating? Well, I had an appointment schedule and didn't actually get my haircut started until an hour after my booked time. I have kids and I was fitting in my haircut in on my way home from work. When I have an appointment, I need that to to actually happen. I don't have a lot of free time between work and family, so no matter now nice the trappings I don't want to sit there for an hour just spinning my wheels. I do need a beer on my way home from work, I need something that works with my busy schedule. The cost was also relatively high. It made me feel like I had to consume the include drink to remotely justify the price. That just didn't sit well with me at the end of the day. I can see for some guys it being worth the money to join the program and drop $100+ monthly for a haircut. For me the cost wasn't worth it (I'm a pretty straightforward cut). Again, the thing that really gave me a negative impression was the wasting an hour of my time.

If you have curly hair, Kyra is That Girl!…read more I have been wanting a curly shag forever and my past stylists have either been too afraid to do it or thought it would look mullet-y, so I thought I'd try a curly hair expert. Multiple reddit threads and FB groups later, I saw enough recs for Kyra that I was ready to give her a shot. The salon itself is so cute and eclectic--the coolest thrifted decor! And I was greeted with an offer for a drink and gladly took a hot coffee on a freezing day, which was a great way to get started. Then I met Kyra who was SUCH a good listener and she continued to educate me on what she thought would work for me, told me we could always get more funky at a future appointment so I wasn't too shocked, and walked me through all the steps of styling so I could recreate her magic at home. When I tell you that she gave me the cut of my dreams, I mean it! 70s vibes with defined curls and a routine that won't take me three hours. I genuinely can't wait to go back. GO TO KYRA!

Once I sat down, I showed him a picture of the haircut I wanted. He mentioned that product would be needed to achieve the texture, which I acknowledged. I told him to just try his best. Bro was triggered so bad and started throwing these at me: "This is a professional salon not a kids salon go to your old barber" "I have plenty of WashU clients" "Zip it" WHEN I WAS SAYING NOTHING and the best one yet "never come back again I don't want to see your face" On top of that, he got irritated that I was occasionally looking in the mirror and at my phone to check on the process as if monitoring your own haircut is somehow offensive. At the end, he applied some powder to shape my haircut and to be honest this was not a super terrible haircut, although I thought my curtains could be more choppy like in the picture. However, I think my stylist lacks basic respect and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who expects to be treated with basic decency.
