Walk in only. Cash only. Hours vary. BUT THE BARBER Randy....he did such a fine job on my husbands hair. It is a "bit messy" shop, with a very cute dog, Wilma. Haircuts are $20. In and out. The shop is on the left corner of a tiny strip mall, so the parking expands to the side also. read more

Great locally owned/old school barber that cares about his customers. I'll be back!! read more

Great cut, quick and friendly service, local spot with good vibe. Recommend. I'll be back soon.

Filthy, subpar haircut. Obviously stacked with fake reviews. Save your time and go somewhere else.

Great Barber! Conversational without being too chatty or opinionated or doctrinaire. Unpretentious work environment (with a friendly, well-socialized shop dog). The man knows how to cut hair, well! I have always been a walk-in whist doing other errands. Always take a book and podcasts with me when I go. Longest wait for afternoon walk-in has been maybe a half hour, but is usually much shorter. Totally recommend! IMPORTANT: Bring your cash - at least $20 (incl. tip) for a basic cut. Nooo credit cards, bitcoin, or livestock accepted. read more

Simple, to the point, quality trims/cuts. My significant other looks great and I got to enjoy hanging out with the owner's sweet doggo. read more

Took my boyfriend in for a beard trim. It was a lot of fun and the beard looks great.

Best haircut in St. Louis! Found this place on google and since then I only come hear to cut my hair. Great owner, quick and great-looking haircuts, affordable haircuts. Randy is very friendly and he's the kind of person you can talk for hours! I always leave a good tip. read more

2 people have recommended me this guy when I moved here. I figured to give it a shot! Boy it's worth it. I've been there once and I'll go again! I love Randy, his sense of passion and his love for the country! I definitely did not realize that he did not accept cards and I offered to leave my wallet at his place while I ran to get cash. Man was so chill. As far as the quality of service, A+! Would highly recommend read more

I liked my haircut very much. Randy is a good conversationalist. I was in and out in 20 minutes and he did a great job.

Let's give it 4.5 cuz I think fives should be for ultimate, most perfect place ever. Got shaped up by the owner I assume, he had a dog in there that I got to pet. So automatically a great start. For whatever reason, maybe we're drawn to people but we started talking sobriety cuz my situation is getting bad. He had some insight and just talked to me like a regular person, no judgement. Also, might be the best haircut I ever got. I got that ww1 peaky blinders cut and the fade was perfect. I work with twenty people in a restaurant on saturdays and like seven people complimented my cut. Folks, come in here and pay the two extra bucks instead of going to damn great clips and make sure you tip the person. We need to be going to these local places. Anyway, I'll be back. read more

I got today one of the best haircut ever! Randy is the man! And he got the most handsome dog in town! He also builds old skool Bikes! But first,he gives the best hair cuts in town. Highly recommended! read more

By far the best cuts my wife and daughter have ever gotten. It's hard to articulate at beauty salons how a short, clipper cut is desired. The most comfortable, amazing shop. Loved being here. Felt so personal and at home. read more

I have been coming here for the past two years and love this place - Randy gives my Asian hair a great cut at a reasonable price. If you are looking for a great haircut with no frills, then this is the place for you. read more

Best haircut in town. Randy's a cool guy to talk to also. He's always more than accommodating and helpful tips. I don't have the easiest hair to cut or style. But yeah, Randy will actually listen to you instead of doing the Great Clip nod and then doing whatever the hell they want. Trust me you won't be disappointed. read more

Randy will always set you right with a cut and good conversation. Simple, affordable, skilled barber.

I started coming here after reading the stellar reviews. Randy does give a nice haircut and is a nice guy. It seemed like every time I was there, though, he was complaining about late afternoon customers. I tried going on a Saturday morning and had to wait an hour. Randy said people line up before the door opens on Saturday, so if you don't show up well before opening, you're in for a long wait. One day after work I raced across town to get there a half hour before closing, and he had already locked the door. That was the last straw. Sorry, no haircut is worth this much hassle to me. Randy should figure out when he wants to let in the last customer of the day, and list that as his closing time. Edit 1/5/2016 (3 months later): I tried racing there again after work, got there about 4:40 -- 50 minutes before he supposedly closes. Again he had the door locked. Looked like 3 other people were inside. It's his prerogative to lock up at 4:15 or whenever, but then he should put that as his closing time. Claiming 5:30 as closing time is farcical. read more

Friendly and quick service. Don't need to make an appointment - just make sure to show up before he closes, keeping in mind other people already waiting before you. Great value for a haircut or shave! ($13-14) read more

Big Bend Barber Shop - Haircuts $14, Shave $13. Great service! Friendly, quick, and professional. - Barbers Near Me - Maplewood, Missouri

This is the barber shop that I have been looking for. One morning when the wait was too long at my usual place, I went to another barber in town who shall remain nameless. When I got home and my wife couldn't contain her giggles of sympathy at the trainwreck on my head, I turned around and went to Randy at Big Bend. I only had to wait 5 minutes and when I sat down he took a quick 360 degree look and said something like "Don't worry, I can fix it." In a few minutes he created exactly what I had in mind and restored my sense of dignity. From the look of the guys before and after me, Big Bend seems to appeal to the straight-laced and hipster alike. There are big, comfortable chairs for waiting and plenty of parking. Very affordable. read more

So is everyone else who has posted a review of this place a friend or family member of Randy's? This is hands down the filthiest business I have ever been to, of any kind. It would be filthy for an automotive shop, a nursery, or a failing mom-and-pop hardware store, but it's next-level filthy for any place that's doing work on the human body. When I got there, what first greeted me was the smell of old gym clothes. What greeted me second was a pile of mail stacked to the top of the first barber chair -- like, the kind of pile of mail that you get when you've been on vacation for two weeks and pick up the mail you had held at the Post Office while you were gone. What greeted me third was Randy himself, who was splayed out in one of the waiting chairs eating a Jimmy John's and told me he'd be a minute. I'd already tried two barbershops before I came in, so I stuck around. As Randy cut my hair, I had a chance to look around the shop, and I noticed an upside-down bicycle, an old pair of Puma-brand athletic sneakers strewn underneath a chair, a broken 1950s refrigerator, rusty sinks, and hair, hair, hair -- all over the floor. Lest you think this was just your typical as-yet-unswept-hair-on-a-barbershop-floor, let me clarify that there were many different types of hair all over the floor, and Randy was the only guy there -- clearly it'd been there for a while. I looked at where the legs of the not-working antique refrigerator met the aged linoleum floor, and noticed that there was also little bits hair permanently jammed between the tile and the refrigerator's feet. Mind you, this just speaks to the cleanliness of the business -- there's more. In addition to this, he does not have a working business phone. Yes, he has a phone NUMBER, but if you call it, you'll get a disconnection message. It was also a mediocre haircut -- clippers only -- and he broke my cardinal rule of old school barbershops by not using foam/straight razor to create a sharp neckline. I've decided that if anybody out in St. Louis can manage to run an old-school, no-appointments-necessary barbershop with multiple chairs, old-school barber skills and services, and a merely passing level of cleanliness, he will be a rich man, indeed. I feel like I'm being railroaded into going to the Hair Saloon! Randy seems like a nice enough guy to have a beer (or maybe a toke?) with, but I can't stress enough how much I recommend against visiting his barbershop. read more

Good cut and value at $14 but over an hour wait and out of coffee by 9:30 AM on a Sat morning. Forgetaboutit. You need to have more than a single barber working on a Sat. morning. Like a restaurant not being staffed adequately on a Fri/Sat night. Either get here when they open on Sat or roll the dice on how long you will wait. A barber that is adequately staffed with upscale amenities would enjoy at least a steady business in the Clayton/University City area and probably rake it in if they had good barbers and advertising. read more

Just had a cut there, ask for full on the sides and back...practically scalped me. To top it off you better have cash...they refuse all cards. Recommend any other shop. read more

Pros: The guy is an old school type of barber. He uses his scissors more than the trimmer. This give a good quality finish touch. This man knows what he is doing. Quality work for less amount of money. Cons: Accepts only cash Crazy waiting line haha read more

Great haircut, reasonable price, friendly barber!! Highly recommended. Went in to see Randy after reading such rave reviews, and they are accurate! Randy at Big Bend Barber Shop is second to none. I literally drive 20+ miles to get my haircut with him and have been for over 15 years. You will not be disappointed with your cut, I guarantee it. Plus its an old school barber shop, laid back and great location! Highly Recommend! read more

Randy is a great guy who just makes you feel like you're his new best friend right when you sit in his chair. I came in not know what I wanted so I just told him to do what he wanted. The end result was great. It was exactly what the style currently is and it looked good. He's a really personable guy and knows how to hold a conversation while he's cutting your hair. I walked in on a Thursday later afternoon and didn't have any wait but within a minute of sitting down, three more guys showed up. So make sure you come either early or with enough time to expect a little wait. He cuts pretty fast though without sacrificing detail. He's owned this place for about 6 years--took it over from another guy who retired. He knows his clientele but he's very welcome to new customers! I will definitely going back. $15. No more haircuts from my wife! read more

This was my first experience at a barber, and it was not a disappointment. I had to wait a bit to get in the chair, but was worth the wait! Randy was very personable, incredibly helpful, and obviously skillful. Once I hopped in the chair, I gave him a quick glance of a photo of what I was looking for and he was off to work. He worked precisely but quickly and I left very happy! I'll be going back once my hair lengthens up to finish the look! read more

Wonderful. Love my new cut. Randy is both my barber and dog guru. Worth the wait.

Moved here from Orange County, CA and been struggling to find a good barber for a consistent fade cut. Got a recommendation to see Randy at Big Bend. He owns a cool shop and provided a GREAT haircut. It's exactly the fade and part I'm looking for. I'll be coming to see him every two weeks. Highly recommended! read more

In an attempt to be urban, I decided on sunny Saturday morning to walk up to the barber shop located a couple blocks from my house. Upon walking in, I felt like I had raveled back in time. The guys at the Big Bend Barber bring you back to a time when General Motors ruled the country and women didn't work. It feels like your walking into a different decade with the pastel green barber chairs (which are mighty comfortable if I do say so myself) and green sinks. Walk in on a Saturday morning and this place is sure to be packed. Cliff, the barber, has been around for years and is a master with the clippers, though he only works part time now. He always has a great story to tell. When all the barber asks is "Medium, or shorter" you know are you getting your haircut at a barber. None of this #1, #2 stuff - save that for Great Clips. The best part about the cut is they still shave your neck with the old warm shaving cream and straight razor, so you are sure to get a clean look when its all done. A haircut will run you $13, but the experience will last forever. read more

Since I didn't claim this business nor am I really associated with Yelp this is the only way to respond To the gentlemen who left me so eloquent a review 5 days or so ago, I am truly sorry your experience was not a pleasurable one and I apologize again,it's a good thing there are other places for you to go and get your haircut, yes I am the only one there So it is sometimes hard to keep up with things as I am very busy as you can see from other reviews, My question is if you were so unsatisfied from the start why didn't you just leave while I was trying to eat my lunch " splayed" out in my chair, I'm just a one person shop trying to support a family, again thank you for your very descriptive review of my Shop and by the way my non working antique refrigerator actually works, happy hunting Randy the owner Pay no attention to the five stars I gave myself I just had to post this response, it's really for the Customers to decide whether they like it or not And if you don't, that's ok, I can't please everyone And if you do, I will always do the best job I can Since I've been doing this for 30 years read more

I sat in this shop waiting for a beard trim for a considerable amount of time, which I was completely aware was going to be the case. First of all, there were no masks being worn by ANYONE in the shop, including the owner. I was the only person wearing one. As he was finishing up his last customer, he sneezed twice, back to back, into a towel, put the towel down and went back to cutting this guys hair. No hand washing. Nothing. I got up to leave as the other customer was getting up as well. He asked if I was leaving, and I explained why I was leaving. Not to mention, as I was leaving he had a letter from the moron in the White House at his establishment. As a gay man, who cares about his health, I couldn't go through with it. He came outside after I left reminding me that the trim was free, but I told him that I didn't want to get my beard trimmed by him. I was civil, while he seemed to be giving me some kind of attitude as to get a rise out of me, but that didn't happen. I left in a civil manner without raising my voice. He shouldn't be open if he is going to follow city ordinances. read more

Randy is an awesome guy and barber. I've gone here for the last year and a half and I've always left the shop quite happy. Free neck trims between cuts, too! Go here. Randy will set you straight. I was referred by a friend based on Randys beard trimming reputation and knowledge. 5 stars all the way, and he even recommended a great, cheap hair product to battle my fuzzy hair. I've since recommended him to a friend who relayed the same sentiment after getting a stellar haircut. Randy will look you in the eyes, give honest feedback from the heart, and teach you all grooming necessities your dad didn't. No wonder there's a line, his reputation is the real deal. read more

Randy is the man. This is not a "go in and get a haircut in 10 minutes" kind of place. Yes you will most likely have to wait. But trust me that is because he takes his time with what he is doing and cares about how everyone looks when they leave. This guy is a pro. Not a greatclips style of hair cut. Go see my man Randy. He remembered me after my first cut and did me well each cut after. Guy can do it all. Hipster, business professional, children, specific style. Guy is good. Sometimes a wait and sometimes not. Worth the wait. Very cool and comfortable setting. Everyone is laid back and friendly. Will not get my haircut anywhere else while I live in this area. read more
