Finding stylists/barbers and dentists always seems to be one of those tricky things when you move to a new area. There are a ton of options, but it can take a while to find that right one that just meshes with your own tastes. You want that mixture of great service, price, and ease of access. I've been going to the same place to get my haircut for the last several years. Due to an unexpected emergency at the shop, I had to scramble to find a new place to get a haircut while under a deadline. I booked an appointment for Scissors & Scotch as it had great reviews online. When you walk in the first thing you encounter is a bar. Scissors & Scotch has a bit of an unusual model that I didn't expect. They work on a subscription basis so it is closer to joining a gym then just being a regular at at barber/salon. Depending upon what level you join at increases the type of alcohol you have access to (e.g. basic = draft beers, higher levels = top shelf liquor). It is kind of a nice idea, and the vibe is one that is unique to shops I've been to. The haircut I got was pretty good and the stylist I got was personable. Overall all of the staff were very welcoming. So given these positive things, why am I overall giving a relatively poor rating? Well, I had an appointment schedule and didn't actually get my haircut started until an hour after my booked time. I have kids and I was fitting in my haircut in on my way home from work. When I have an appointment, I need that to to actually happen. I don't have a lot of free time between work and family, so no matter now nice the trappings I don't want to sit there for an hour just spinning my wheels. I do need a beer on my way home from work, I need something that works with my busy schedule. The cost was also relatively high. It made me feel like I had to consume the include drink to remotely justify the price. That just didn't sit well with me at the end of the day. I can see for some guys it being worth the money to join the program and drop $100+ monthly for a haircut. For me the cost wasn't worth it (I'm a pretty straightforward cut). Again, the thing that really gave me a negative impression was the wasting an hour of my time. read more

I decided to quit going to this barber altogether. The barbers are alright, but can be difficult scheduling online. I went in 20 minutes early and when it was 10 minutes past my appointed time, I cancelled my appointment and decided against using this barbershop again. The owners of this place clearly poured a ton of money into it. Really nice place. They clearly spent a ton on sizzle and little on service. It's great that you have a great place, but it won't offset poor service. First and foremost, it's 11am on saturday and no one is answering the phone. "Sorry, the number you reached has no set voicemail." Wow... Second, I showed up on time. After 10 minutes of just sitting there, I Ieft. No one checked on me. No one said, "hey, she's running a bit behind." Nothing. If you're going to charge $100 for haircut, you have to get the service right. Lastly, the bald guy at the front desk immediately goes to his IPAD with his back to the counter. In my 15 minutes sitting there, he just constantly made customers wait while he checked in IPAD. From the time I booked to the time I checked out the experience was amazing. When you check in for the first time you are greeted warmly and shown around the shop. They explain how the whole thing will go about. I was offered a complimentary cocktail with my haircut and beard trim. Eric makes a killer Manhattan as well as an old fashion. KT took amazing care of me. She was super chill and ensured I got my desired look. I got a drop fade and beard trim. She crushed it! She was super personable. She recommended great products to help with my grooming needs. When booking ask for KY, if you call in and get Eric you'll be wowed overall. Will be coming back soon. read more
