A guy in the lobby had an appointment for noon; his car was sitting in the lot too. Gal at the counter said they still take walk-in appointments so scheduling makes NO DIFFERENCE as to getting service in a timely way. Les Schwab used to mean something. Now they're just an overpriced, cut-rate tire place you can't trust to air up your tires.

Yes, their prices are higher, but I've always justified it because of the guarantee, free flat repairs, and replacement if a tire is irreparable. I've thought of it as "tire insurance." A couple of weeks ago, I had a flat. They repaired it, but it turned into a slow leak. I arrived at 9:00 AM this morning with only three people ahead of me. They aired up the tire and said I was in the queue. When I returned around 9:50 AM, a flood of walk-ins had arrived. I was told I had an appointment in an hour--then 1.5 hours later, still nothing. Eventually I was informed it wasn't "technically" an appointment. After decades of loyalty, this was a huge customer service failure. Very disappointing. It seems like every time private equity buys a company, the service quality declines--and sadly, Les Schwab appears to be going down that path.

I reminded DJ that I had been quoted $40 (the top of his range) on the phone. He wouldn't honor the price quoted. I told him I would take my business elsewhere and had it done at Les Schwab for $36. To clear up any misunderstanding I phoned back later and explained my reticence to pay 40% above his quoted price. DJ sarcastically apologized for "charging $5 over the quote". I reminded him that the quote was "$30 - $40". His response was "whatever!" and he reminded me that after he made the quote I had mentioned a higher bid I had gotten from a competitor. Then it clicked -- he had raised the price because he thought I was clueless and he could get it. It had nothing to do with their labor or costs but was purely opportunistic. A rip-off, in other words. Roseburg could use a good independent mechanic shop with high values. Unfortunately, HIS Automotive services is not that. Very disappointing. They know how to talk the talk, but they don't walk the walk.

The 3 musketeers all geared up and headed down to Eugene to get to the Oregon Country Fair... we stopped at Les Schwab like I had been told to do each time to make sure the tire pressure was good and tires were good to adventure... the guy says the tires on the axel were good, but I should look at switching the spare out soon...he didnt know how far Id get on it if need be. So we go on our merry little way...and about 30 miles from Eugene... the Rv shakes and you feel the plunk of a flat tire... This was no ordinary flat tire... it burst and then ripped out the wheel well and made a huge hole in a space where we stored extra gloves and our electric space heater...I had placed our Jerry and Jerry bear on the lid of that... they were laying on the side of I-5 about a 1/4 mile back. So, here is where a couple of angels came... we use state farm roadside assistance... which has been a great investment BTW... the Jbs Roadside Assistance arrives in about 45 mins...and although he isnt supposed to do a trailer... changes the tire...he initially thinks it doesn't fit... but it does...he tells us to drive really slow with flashers... Coburn is just 10 miles... if it weren't for him, we'd be either on the side of the road still or towed and without RV for the festival. Angel #1 Noreen googles closest tire shop and we arrive at Pomp's Tire Service these guys not only didnt blink an eye at getting us 2 new tires, but worked really hard to get the shredded rubber from around the axel and shoring up the underneath. They had us back on the road within an hour...and put the other good tire on the spare mount so we still have a spare. Angels #2. If it hadnt been for these 3 guys, not only doing their job, they went above a beyond and sent us on our magical way.

For real tho I waited for 5+ hr to get a new set of $1500 tires on my truck then came back thinking a simple rotation would be fast made sure to show up 9am only a few people in the store waiting made sure to ask if they had time and tell them I only have a hour tops to spare then sat there looking at my truck for 2.5 hours while the place filled up and people came and went. Finally at 2.5 hr the guy got in my truck and did the 20 min job and I left thinking this is a sad day I might never come back after 30 years of using les Schwab. Who ever is managing the workers time needs to work on their job or stand down. Second star is for the popcorn
