Nick & John are a DREAM team! I highly recommend Custom Creations. You'll love the personal service, plentiful options, and of course, reasonable prices. We got Hunter Douglas sheer shades installed throughout our home last month and absolutely LOVE them. I always saw the Custom Creations storefront driving down El Camino but then my best friend used them for her new construction home a few months ago (she was referred to Custom Creations by her builder). Her wood blinds and shutters look fantastic so of course I emailed Nick too. He was patient, had great advice, and was SO meticulous about every detail that we knew we could trust him. He helped us pick colors, took measurements, and a few weeks later the custom shades arrived! John came to install our blinds and we were also jazzed by his meticulousness. You can tell he's been doing this for decades and his perfectionism was obvious (despite working SUPER fast). Every shade is perfectly even and they roll up/down soooo smoothly! Last thing: if service matters to you, this is the company to go with. Over the course of 2ish months, I felt like I got to know Nick pretty well. He's casual yet professional and was so easy to work with. The experience wasn't a chore like other home projects we've done in the past. Thanks, Nick and Custom Creations, for making our home gorgeous! read more

Everything went perfectly. Nick suggested a different color than we wanted and he convinced us to try his choice. He was totally correct. We love the new shades. read more

We were referred to Custom Creations by friends and we could not have been happier with Nick and his team. We highly recommend Custom Creations to everyone looking for blinds. Nick is very friendly and helped us choose appropriate blinds for the different windows we had. We went with a Duolite for our large bedroom window and honeycomb cellular shades for the other four windows. The quality is top notch, prices are very reasonable, and the installer did a fantastic job. He removed all of the old blinds and installed all five blinds in about one hour. read more

Nick and team are fantastic. Super reliable and set the bar high for customer service. John who installed the blinds was super fast and was really a perfectionist. He called out things I would have not noticed. Custom ended up treating every window in our home but if we decided to change styles or when we get our next home, we'll definitely be coming back. Called around a few companies in the area for specific Hunter Douglas treatment that I saw online. Their quote came back competitive and honest. read more

Custom Creations has done all my window coverings for my last two homes in the Bay Area. The entire process from taking the measurement, material /color selection to the installation all went flawlessly. In particular, Nick, the owner has great sense of design and offers practical options. Nick provided great advises to makes sure the window covering will not only serve the functional purpose but also integrate to the overall interior decor/ color palette scheme and sometimes, a focal point. I will continue to use Custom Creations for my next property! read more

We worked with Nick and team to have smart blinds and manual blinds installed. Nick was patient, professional, and worked within our budget to help us achieve our vision. The manufacturer has an issue with one of the blinds and Nick came over twice to have it fixed, repaired, and eventually replaced without cost to me. My family has worked with this company prior, and I recommend them. I received two other bids, but Custom Creations won my work. Smart blinds are a great investment for a sunny side of a home, one less thing to worry about every day --automate the things you repeat every day. read more

I called CC on a whim after passing by their storefront in San Carlos. My daughter has three windows in her room that needed treatments and allowed for a screen. Nick came over pretty shortly after I made the call, and quickly gave us some options that included diff types of fabric, color and style. We did have to wait a little over a month for the shades to arrive, but once in stock, the installation was quick and painless. Best of all, my daughter's room is now properly shaded, and I'm pleased with the overall look. I've gotten several bids for this project, but CC was the only one I felt good about pulling the trigger right after the quote, even though they weren't the lowest bid. Both Nick and Christie were professional, and easy to work with. I'll def use them again for other window covering needs. read more

Not really a rating because I couldn't get into the location since on the door it is posted that you had to have an appointment. There was a gal inside who opened the door but she said she was new and about to go home. She said needed to call for an appointment. Would be nice if it stated that on hours! read more

Long overdue review. Nick and his team were awesome at finding the best solution to blackout our bedroom with a custom sliding curtain and a cellular shade for the window. They also did a great job with a sunrise sunset cellular shade in our large living room window (Costco/Graber wanted to charge 2x the price and couldn't make a unit the size of the window, wanting two or three panels which would have tons of light leaking). On top of this, when I called back indicating there was a bit too much light leakage from the bedroom patio door drapery (unavoidable with a one way sliding rod), Nick went out of his way to design a matching cornice box which helped immensely (and they did so at a reduced cost)... all to ensure I was happy with my window treatments and could sleep properly in a darkened room. The quality of the shades are better than what you will find at most online DIY options. If you aren't sure about stylings or have specific custom window covering needs and want to be assured you're getting expert advice and installation, go with Custom Creations! read more

We needed room darkening shades for our living/dining room to accomodate our new home theater system. Luis (the owner) came to our home and suggested some fabrics for our new roman shades. Custom Creations was VERY professional and had some great ideas that helped us make our selection much easier. The shades fit perfectly.....We plan to go back to Luis when we start remodeling the rest of our home. Dealing with Custom Creations was one of the easiest, stress free parts of our remodeling process. read more

Luis and his team are just amazing. Great communication and competitive pricing. What else can you ask for? We have used custom creations for our past two homes. We bought our first home 6 years ago and went with the composite wood shutters. We had zero problems with the shutters during that time. Now fast forward to our new home. We needed shutters and there was an obvious choice. Luis and his team did an excellent job installing our shutters (20+) Great customer service from beginning to end. After completing a lengthy remodel, we needed to get new window coverings for the kitchen, family and living rooms. I called Custom Creations and was able to schedule an appointment with Nick relatively quickly. Nick arrived on time and well prepared. Since we are in the midst of the pandemic, he was able to bring along a mobile "showroom". He's very knowledgeable and professional. He was able to provide a quote for me within a few hours. The window coverings arrived within the estimated time frame of 3-4 weeks. And, the installation by John and his partner went off without any problems. They were very mindful of my new flooring and countertops and kept everything covered and protected. They even moved a couch for me. The whole experience with Custom Creations was positive. I would definitely recommend them and would use them again. Christy from the office was great too! Thank you! read more

WILL USE AGAIN FOR A FUTURE PROJECT Thank you to Luis for guiding me through the process of sHades for my vintage home. I wanted something appropriate for my vintage home. I went to the showroom and originally looked at Honeycomb blinds. They just seemed too contemporary. Luis started asking me questions about my home and what I currently had on my windows. That is when he then showed me some woven, kind of wood, roman shades. Perfect! He and his son then came to my house with sample. We confirmed that color that I had picked out in the showroom and we all agreed it would look good in all rooms. One other change was made. I originally was considering a cloth vertical trim on each side of the shade, but we all decided it would NOT look good in my home. The shades came in within 2 weeks of that consultation, but I put off the installation until after I had all my windows cleaned. John, the installer, put in the shades and I am delighted. They suit my home, let in diffused light, but you can still see out. They are exactly what I wanted, good quality and I cannot say enough about the cording and smooth action of the shades. All my old, off-the-shelf, drop down shades were taken away except for one. I plan on using it on another window on the back porch. I already called Custom Creations and said I would be a repeat customer, once I replace my upstairs windows. Those will get new shades as well. read more

I walked into Custom Creations store not knowing it was by appointment only and rather than making me feel silly, Luis and Nick welcomed me in and Luis was able to chat with me for a few minutes until his next appointment. Luis came to our house a few days after our "in office" meeting to measure the windows and get a better sense of what we needed for our house. He was polite, honest, and very knowledgeable (This carried through the entire purchasing and installing process). We ordered from him a few days later and the blinds were installed earlier than the estimated date. Luis made the process easy, stress free and for a lower price point than a vender from a different store for literally the exact same blinds (brand and features). I don't usually write yelp reviews but my husband and I were so impressed by Luis and all the staff from Custom creations, i want to make sure others know what a wonderful business this is. I very strongly recommend their services. read more

I've used CC a couple of times. Luis came out to our house with samples and helped walk me through options. He does have his opinion, but luckily we agreed on things I felt strongly about. I ended up with blackout drapes, Hunter Douglas blinds, and wood slat blinds. I've purchased cheaper options before, which is why I was happy to pay a little extra for quality. They've been installed for 7 years now, and I've had no regrets. read more

After checking out various places (Home Depot, Macy's, advertised places, online places) for shutters I finally settled on Custom. I had other people come out and give me a quote but i liked the thoroughness of Custom. When he came out to measure my windows, he took the time to explain it all to me what he was doing and how the shutters would hang. He had plenty of samples to pour over as well. He also explained that my windows were not level to each other but would install the shutters to make them all level to the same height. There are basically a couple of major shutter manufactures that supply the Bay Area. One manufacturer is in China, www.normanshutters.com, and the other is in the central valley. I felt the Norman shutters were of a little better quality. Since everyone essentially carries the same lines, it comes down to the quality of installation and service. The installation was amazingly clean. There was no on site cutting; everything was dry fit the night before off site.... he said in his home. They came early in the morning and just had to unpack a few things and then just started installing everything. FANTASTIC!!! I was very happy with the efficiency of the installation and the quality. Custom was a little more expensive but matched the price of a lower quote. $5K ttl. I would use them again. I have attached the picture of my 4 inch shutters with the bright white finish. I would give them 5 stars if they originally came in at a lower price. read more

I wanted to provide a slightly different perspective after looking around. We scheduled for a consultation based on all the positive reviews. The appraiser arrived on time and was professional during the consultation. He didn't bring any product samples/pictures to look through so we just discussed options and I had to pull up pictures on my computer to understand what he was recommending. He was really pushing me towards plantation shutters that would have blocked our beautiful canyon view. He did come around to a different option and started measuring the three rooms where I need window treatments. He spent a good amount of time measuring our windows to put together a quote. About five days later, a quote came back with 2/3 rooms incorporated. I guess the measurements for the third room had been lost. The quote was about 2x the price from competitors. They also didn't recommend some of the newer window treatment options that are high quality and more affordable. Between the high price, the lack of recommendations for the latest and greatest window treatments and no product samples during consultation, I would recommend looking around before you settle on treatments from Custom Creations. Adding one additional star because Luis is a very genuine, nice guy. read more

UPDATE: After the installation, I spoke directly with Nick at Custom Creations about my experiences and the communication problems and delays we had. Nick was very apologetic and took the time to listen to my concerns and responded in a constructive and professional manner. He took what I said seriously, which is something I definitely appreciated. He also discounted our installation in a meaningful way to compensate us for the inconvenience we experienced during the process. I appreciated Nick's professionalism and sincerity in our discussion and have updated my rating to reflect that. ORIGINAL FEEDBACK: My wife engaged Custom Creations to do window treatments for a total of five windows in our house. While the installation itself was quick and fairly easy, the customer service experience with Custom Creations was subpar throughout the process. First, a member of their team came out and took measurements and provided an estimate. This part of the process was fine. We were told the installation would be within three to four weeks, which was fine for us. After about three weeks, we got a call from John, who was going to be the installer, to set up a time for the installation. I called John back within an hour of missing his initial call, but could not get a hold of him. This was the Monday before Thanksgiving, and we did not hear back from him or anyone else from Custom Creations for over a week. Some of that I can chalk up to the Thanksgiving holiday, but we were not able to schedule the installation appointment until the middle of the following week, which I believe is an unreasonably long time to have to wait to speak to anyone there. More strangely, my initial calls to their office were not returned over several days and when I finally got a hold of someone, they said they couldn't help with the scheduling and that we had to talk to John, who I imagine was in the field actually doing installations. Finally, we connected with John and agreed on a time for John to come do the installation. My wife specifically left work early to make sure we had someone home for the agreed on 5:00 pm installation time. At 5:30, John notified my wife that he was running late and wouldn't arrive until 6:15. John actually arrived closer to 6:45 p.m., almost two hours after the initial appointment time. He apologized, but he never provided any update after his original 5:30 message to let us know when (or if) we should still expect him to do the installation that day. While things happen and people run late, it's a matter of professional courtesy to notify a customer that you are going to be late BEFORE missing the appointment, not after. The installation itself went smoothly, but this customer service experience was really unsatisfactory considering the premium prices Custom Creations charges. read more

I did wood shutters with Nick. He was very patient and took down all detailed requests. Pricing was about 30-50% cheaper than what sf shutters quoted me. There were some problems with the doors' shutters because their best installer was injured and did not install them for me. I was initially worried about follow-ups and warranty. I decided to recommend this company to my clients who live in San Carlos, based on the positive reviews. Unfortunately, the experience was not at all positive. After taking measurements back in July, Nick had informed me in person at my clients residence, that they had chosen the products for their window. My client asked it could be expedited and Nick told him "yes. After 2 weeks I called to ask the status, and had to leave a message as no one answered the phone I had to call again twice to get in touch with Nick as the staff that answered the phone said "they didn't know anything about the order. I asked them to please leave a message for Nick to call be back as soon as possible and leave a detailed message with the status. When Nick did call me back he gave all kinds of excuses which ultimately boiled down to the fact that he never asked for a deposit from my client to order the material. This is inexcusable due to the fact that my client always pays by credit card which he has with him at all times. There were other excuses as well that I won't go into but the bottom line is that I finally had heard enough and asked whether this was ordered or not- The answer was no! We built a sunroom across the back of our home with a Southern exposure. We wanted to open our windows from the top and be able to adjust the amount of light during the day with electric shades. Custom Creations came highly recommended by our neighbor. Luis and team guided us to a top-down, bottom-up electric shade systems. They provided a thorough introduction to our options and gave us a straightforward, no "sales-pitch" recommendation. We invited them to visit our home, confirm the solution, and quote. He stayed until he had confirmed his solution with the manufacturer. After the installation, there was a mechanical issue with one of 12 shades and the need for a tighter fit of the shades to our French doors. The faulty shade was replaced quickly at no cost.
