Long overdue review. Nick and his team were awesome at finding the best solution to blackout our bedroom with a custom sliding curtain and a cellular shade for the window. They also did a great job with a sunrise sunset cellular shade in our large living room window (Costco/Graber wanted to charge 2x the price and couldn't make a unit the size of the window, wanting two or three panels which would have tons of light leaking). On top of this, when I called back indicating there was a bit too much light leakage from the bedroom patio door drapery (unavoidable with a one way sliding rod), Nick went out of his way to design a matching cornice box which helped immensely (and they did so at a reduced cost)... all to ensure I was happy with my window treatments and could sleep properly in a darkened room. The quality of the shades are better than what you will find at most online DIY options. WILL USE AGAIN FOR A FUTURE PROJECT Thank you to Luis for guiding me through the process of sHades for my vintage home. I wanted something appropriate for my vintage home. I went to the showroom and originally looked at Honeycomb blinds. They just seemed too contemporary. Luis started asking me questions about my home and what I currently had on my windows. That is when he then showed me some woven, kind of wood, roman shades. Perfect! He and his son then came to my house with sample. We confirmed that color that I had picked out in the showroom and we all agreed it would look good in all rooms. One other change was made. I originally was considering a cloth vertical trim on each side of the shade, but we all decided it would NOT look good in my home. The shades came in within 2 weeks of that consultation, but I put off the installation until after I had all my windows cleaned. John, the installer, put in the shades and I am delighted. They suit my home, let in diffused light, but you can still see out. They are exactly what I wanted, good quality and I cannot say enough about the cording and smooth action of the shades. All my old, off-the-shelf, drop down shades were taken away except for one. I plan on using it on another window on the back porch. After checking out various places (Home Depot, Macy's, advertised places, online places) for shutters I finally settled on Custom. I had other people come out and give me a quote but i liked the thoroughness of Custom. When he came out to measure my windows, he took the time to explain it all to me what he was doing and how the shutters would hang. He had plenty of samples to pour over as well. He also explained that my windows were not level to each other but would install the shutters to make them all level to the same height. There are basically a couple of major shutter manufactures that supply the Bay Area. One manufacturer is in China, www.normanshutters.com, and the other is in the central valley. I felt the Norman shutters were of a little better quality. Since everyone essentially carries the same lines, it comes down to the quality of installation and service. The installation was amazingly clean. There was no on site cutting; everything was dry fit the night before off site.... he said in his home. They came early in the morning and just had to unpack a few things and then just started installing everything. FANTASTIC!!! I was very happy with the efficiency of the installation and the quality. Custom was a little more expensive but matched the price of a lower quote. $5K ttl. I would use them again. I have attached the picture of my 4 inch shutters with the bright white finish. UPDATE: After the installation, I spoke directly with Nick at Custom Creations about my experiences and the communication problems and delays we had. Nick was very apologetic and took the time to listen to my concerns and responded in a constructive and professional manner. He took what I said seriously, which is something I definitely appreciated. He also discounted our installation in a meaningful way to compensate us for the inconvenience we experienced during the process. I appreciated Nick's professionalism and sincerity in our discussion and have updated my rating to reflect that. ORIGINAL FEEDBACK: My wife engaged Custom Creations to do window treatments for a total of five windows in our house. While the installation itself was quick and fairly easy, the customer service experience with Custom Creations was subpar throughout the process. First, a member of their team came out and took measurements and provided an estimate. This part of the process was fine. We were told the installation would be within three to four weeks, which was fine for us. After about three weeks, we got a call from John, who was going to be the installer, to set up a time for the installation. I called John back within an hour of missing his initial call, but could not get a hold of him. This was the Monday before Thanksgiving, and we did not hear back from him or anyone else from Custom Creations for over a week. Some of that I can chalk up to the Thanksgiving holiday, but we were not able to schedule the installation appointment until the middle of the following week, which I believe is an unreasonably long time to have to wait to speak to anyone there. More strangely, my initial calls to their office were not returned over several days and when I finally got a hold of someone, they said they couldn't help with the scheduling and that we had to talk to John, who I imagine was in the field actually doing installations. Finally, we connected with John and agreed on a time for John to come do the installation. My wife specifically left work early to make sure we had someone home for the agreed on 5:00 pm installation time. At 5:30, John notified my wife that he was running late and wouldn't arrive until 6:15. John actually arrived closer to 6:45 p.m., almost two hours after the initial appointment time. He apologized, but he never provided any update after his original 5:30 message to let us know when (or if) we should still expect him to do the installation that day. While things happen and people run late, it's a matter of professional courtesy to notify a customer that you are going to be late BEFORE missing the appointment, not after. The installation itself went smoothly, but this customer service experience was really unsatisfactory considering the premium prices Custom Creations charges. read more

I wanted to provide a slightly different perspective after looking around. We scheduled for a consultation based on all the positive reviews. The appraiser arrived on time and was professional during the consultation. He didn't bring any product samples/pictures to look through so we just discussed options and I had to pull up pictures on my computer to understand what he was recommending. He was really pushing me towards plantation shutters that would have blocked our beautiful canyon view. He did come around to a different option and started measuring the three rooms where I need window treatments. He spent a good amount of time measuring our windows to put together a quote. About five days later, a quote came back with 2/3 rooms incorporated. I guess the measurements for the third room had been lost. The quote was about 2x the price from competitors. They also didn't recommend some of the newer window treatment options that are high quality and more affordable. Between the high price, the lack of recommendations for the latest and greatest window treatments and no product samples during consultation, I would recommend looking around before you settle on treatments from Custom Creations. After taking measurements back in July, Nick had informed me in person at my clients residence, that they had chosen the products for their window. We built a sunroom across the back of our home with a Southern exposure. We wanted to open our windows from the top and be able to adjust the amount of light during the day with electric shades. Custom Creations came highly recommended by our neighbor. Luis and team guided us to a top-down, bottom-up electric shade systems. They provided a thorough introduction to our options and gave us a straightforward, no "sales-pitch" recommendation. We invited them to visit our home, confirm the solution, and quote. Luis (the owner) took detailed measurements for our application, discovering a few unexpected tight tolerances with our existing frames. He stayed until he had confirmed his solution with the manufacturer. After the installation, there was a mechanical issue with one of 12 shades and the need for a tighter fit of the shades to our French doors. The faulty shade was replaced quickly at no cost.
