I want to update my review to say that the owner of this shop is never around and never takes any phone calls from any customer. What kind of shop has an owner who doesn't even want to resolve a client issue? My system is STILL not working, and I have taken it back to the shop to be told that all of the problems are the fault of my Iphone XR. I got a second opinion at Clear Choice Lexus, and they indicated the problem was with the install. I am horribly disappointed in the kind of treatment I have received from this shop and tell any female to steer away as I was also told I was charged egregiously more than the part/labor should have amounted to. read more

I just purchased a 2016 Mercedes Benz GLA 250, and the only hang up I had was that it wasn't equipped with Apple Carplay. I called Custom Car Stereo, and they were able to order the parts they needed for the install with just a 50% deposit over the phone. The parts arrived in just a few days, and I was scheduled to bring my car in 3 days later. I dropped it off at 9:30am on a Friday morning, and it was done in 5 hours. They offer WiFi and coffee while you wait in a clean & comfortable waiting room. My issue was an after-market camera not working. I know they sell custom car audio solutions, but I like to call them the "Goosebumps Store"! I've used these guys off and on for over 15 years - the fact that they've been around for so long and still maintain the high-end reputation they have speaks enough for itself. I know my car stereos, and have worked on my own cars for years. But I know my limits too, and when it has to be professional, clean, and absolutely seamless, I simply don't know anyone better. I recently took my sports car in - it had a custom-designed Bose system from the factory that just plain sucked. Jonathan Cozad worked patiently with me over a couple of weeks to plan the right system. I wanted to replace the factory amp and speakers, but keep everything else intact, which meant integrating with probably the most complicated vehicle computer system I've ever encountered. We worked through a number of options, and Jonathan explained the difference between mid-end and high-end options. He also took the time to gauge my *expectations* - what would I be happy with? We settled on AudioFrog components and coax's, a JL 5ch amp, and Bit One processor. I'd never heard of AudioFrog before, but he explained *why* they'd blow me away. They also suggested I stick with the stock Bose subs, which they researched and found were specifically designed for the car. Robert was the tech that worked on my car. This guy's not just a tech - he's a sound engineer! He has an ear for sound, and takes his work so seriously. When CCS delivered my car - they washed it and had it waiting in the showroom for me! - Robert spent over AN HOUR with me reviewing and adjusting the tuning. We played dozens of songs, and he wouldn't unplug until he was sure I was happy. Happy??? He set up TWO DIFFERENT SOUNDSTAGES for each input (Bluetooth and Satellite, which have different compressions). TWO SOUNDSTAGES! I mean, who does that? Robert does, that's who! I've never been more impressed with an an audio technician. What he does is simply art. The result? GOOSEBUMPS! HOLY SWEET BABY JESUS - GOOSEBUMPS!! Just, all the time! When your music is as much of your driving experience as your car, you know what I mean. I wanted an audio upgrade in my car, and CCS gave me audio Nirvana! I want to invite these guys to Thanksgiving dinner!! read more

My experience was that we just went in to check them out and . . They Bombed. It was unbelievable. What we experienced was attitude and cockiness. They didn't offer a variety of systems, just threw out a single price. They didn't tell us what kind of equipment they'd install, what it would look like, what it could do, whether there were different versions or makes or models or features we could select. Then only offered to provide a description of the system they'd priced only when we asked what our investment would get us. That's possibly the worst customer service we've seen in a while, from a company that seems to charge top-dollar and supposedly prides itself in being the best. Turned our stomachs. Very glad to seek a different source for our vehicle upgrades. #LostTheirMinds On their Web site, you'd think that if they did really good work that they wouldn't just show pictures of the cars they claim to have worked on, but rather photos of the actual work they did (to show how clean their wiring paths would be or whether they use shrink tubing instead of electrical tape other postings have reported they use). Take a look. You'll notice that they don't show any of that. Their site is simply a compilation of photos of cars that may or may not have had any of their work done on them. Our friends and family won't now, but it stands to wonder if you'd really trust to rely on a company that posts only car shows on their Web site to do work on your special machine. Final words: Some of these postings are from customers who had installation work done, the systems didn't work right for them when they got home, and they're praising this company (for some reason) for 'making it right' later. You know, if they really did the best work in town and if they truly cared about doing the best for you, you'd figure that the installers would have tested thoroughly before they let their customers leave with the finished product. And they didn't. That could have been us. That could be you. read more

Had my 4Runner sound system upgraded from the stock Toyota one. I have to say I am very impressed on the way it sounds now, I can hear the radio when the windows are down. It sounds much better then even discussed at the time I made my appointment to drop off. They even called when they seen I had a few other electronics inside and asked if I wanted them to clean it up. Now I do not have a single wire hanging inside my 4Runner. Horrible experience, mostly due to the ineptitude and dishonesty of the owner, DANIEL. He over promises and under delivers in all aspects and doesn't do good work. The first time our car was tinted, it peeled almost immediately. He was also unable to complete other work due to a machine being out for repair, and of course, the machine was never repaired. We brought it back under the warranty/guarantee (they also moved locations) and were told the car would be ready same day. Then we were told they had to order more tint and it would be ready in three days. It still wasn't ready FIVE days later and he refused to complete the work, even though we'd driven across town multiple times based on the car being ready during BOTH experiences. Instead, he became indignant and defensive. Also, his shop is dirty and poorly lit. Which is probably why they can't see that the tint isn't applied correctly. He seems to have good people working for him, but I'm sure that won't last long under such poor management and ownership. We tried to give him another chance and were disappointed yet again. DO. NOT. Ive seen the good, the bad, and the ugly when it comes to upgrading your vehicle and I don't trust anyone elses craftsmanship before Custom Car. It's really simple, when we put our hard earned cash into something all we ask is that it's done right- what a crazy concept! Daniel and his team are knowledgeable and wasn't surprised when I found out Ferrari of Houston is one of their clients; the best expects the best. I don't own a ferrari, but this trip meant a lot. I have an 2004 4runner that I wanted to amp up- Sony Surround Sound System (because apple car play is awesome), Tint all around, headlight restoration with a HID upgrade- and lastly a dash cover because in my model Toyota (and older cars subject to Houston's heat) - you may know suffer from cracked dashboards! I recently got my dream car - a Porsche 911 Targa 4S and though the car itself checked all the boxes for me, the audio system did not. I did some searching online and on a forum for performance cars, Custom Car Stereo was recommended several times. A quick check online and looking thru their gallery and I could see they worked on a lot of cars much nicer than mine. That said, I called Jonathan and made all the arrangements over the phone. He knew exactly what I needed based on the brief description I told him - Pioneer touchscreen with Apple CarPlay/Bluetooth, a new Amp, and Backup camera as well as hardwiring for my radar detector. I dropped my car off on Saturday and picked it up Monday afternoon. Everything looks like it was setup from the factory and I am beyond thrilled. These guys exceeded my expectations and I highly recommend them. Pricing is not cheap but it is fair - if you are driven solely by price, go to Best Buy. If you want something done right the first time with attention to detail, this is the place for you. read more

I took to cars to them based on a recommendation from Post Oak Motor cars, one a Bentley Arnage and the other a Rolls Royce Silver Seraph. First the Arnage, the equipment was fine, except they did not connect the auto antenna and they mounted the sub-woofer in the trunk in a spot that blocked access to my batteries, spare tire, and tool box. While they corrected both problems on a subsequent trip and provided a ride, it should have been done correctly the first time. In other words, poor quality control of the finished job. Now to the Silver Seraph, while no sub-woofer was installed, they let the job go with the XM module broken and said I could bring it in a few days when they had a new module and it would take 15-20 minutes to correct. Also they reported that my airbag lights came on and that this sometimes happens on these jobs, but should go away in a couple of days, or they would correct the problem. I took it back and waited two hours and ended up leaving it over the weekend to have the problem corrected. In other words, three trips. While I was eventually pleased with the product, they have poor installation quality control and the management should be more involved and catch these inevitable problems before sending the car out. They have no respect whatsoever for the customers time and do not seem to mind the poor quality control at all. Bottom line: Find another shop who has better service. As I have been there numerous times, regardless of what they advertise this obviously reflects the quality of work that they do as well as their inability to effectively manage quality control. Overview: Custom Car Stereo did a half-ass job, which looked fine from a distance but didn't stand up either to use or to closer scrutiny. [Update in response to the business's reply is at the end of the review.] ------------------------- I took my 2002 Mercedes to Custom Car Stereo in Houston in about 2002 to have my Valentine One radar detector wired it. It worked fine for years, and I never had any need to look behind the dash to see how they had done it. When the radar detector stopped working last year, it was time for me to install a Blinder laser jammer anyway, so I took my car back to Custom Car Stereo to have them install the jammer and fix the Valentine. They couldn't track down the problem with the Valentine. They sort-of installed the Blinder, but left out (and lost) the power switch that came with the Blinder (a digression: the idea is to switch off jamming when you have slowed down so that the cop gets a read on you driving a more acceptable speed). I decided to get a switch and wire it in myself, and to figure out the problem with the Valentine. I have a high degree of electronic competence, but haven't done a lot of aftermarket-car-electronics installation. To get at the wires on the passenger side, I had to remove a trim piece. Fortunately (?) when Custom Car Stereo had done one of the installations they hadn't replaced the screws holding the trim piece in on that side, so that job went really quickly. To get at the wires on the passenger side, I had to remove another trim piece. The screw had been replaced, but even after I took it out the trim piece didn't come out. . . Custom Car Stereo had broken one of the clips on the piece, and instead of coming clean and replacing the piece, Custom Car Stereo GLUED the trim piece down. Removing the piece meant cutting either the trim piece or the dash. All of the electrical connections Custom Car Stereo made were either connected with crimped barrels or twisted and taped--neither of which is a way to make a reliable and durable connection in electronics. The problem with the Valentine was that one of the crimped connections in the phone cable had come disconnected--something Custom Car Stereo should have seen when they installed the laser jammer LED about two inches away from it. I soldered all of the connections and covered them with heat-shrink (the way things should have been done from the start) and everything worked well. But the broken-and-glued trim piece is still broken, and I'm considering whether to replace the piece with a new one (couple hundred bucks?) or put a trim screw in instead of glue. [Update 11/3/11: In Steve's reply he says, "The installation was done about 10 years ago," but the Blinder installation was in 2009. It was following that installation that I discovered that the V1 had been installed in a halfassed way, but it was in that installation that they lost the Blinder switch, broke the plastic trim piece, and filed to notice that their halfassed V1 install had come apart. Maybe things have changed since 2009. I doubt it--Steve doesn't give any explanation of how the things that went wrong in 2002 and 2009 won't go wrong today. My suspicion is that he is counting on the people whose cars he works on not looking under the dash to see the crimps, the electrical tape, and the broken parts. If you're the kind of guy who thinks a simple radar-detector install shouldn't last more than seven years, and who wouldn't know the difference between electrical tape and heat-shrink tubing, or between a crimped connection and a soldered one, then Custom Car Stereo might be the place for you. If you're a geeky perfectionist like me, there's probably a better shop.] read more

Custom Car Stereo is the best place to go for custom audio in Houston. I have a C63 AMG and a Ford Raptor. Both my systems and many other accessories such as radar were done at Custom Car. If you are looking for a cheap crappy job don't come here. You pay for what you get. Great full warranty, great service and awesome products. The owner Steve is an awesome guy and takes care of his customers. They work on Lambos and Mcclarrens daily and are not snooty at all. I blew my sub 3 times and they took it right back and replaced it. All the guys are down to earth and will make u feel like one of their own. Jonathan up front will work with you on prices and is more than reasonable. I promise u will leave CCS satisfied and if for some odd reason you are not u will be fully taken care of until everything is perfect. I have referred about 10 of my friends to CCS and they all got amazing systems. I've got to give these guys a lot of praise. I bought an AVIC 4100 NEX from them for CarPlay and them install it. Driving home from the shop, I had already hated the stereo. I couldn't use any navigation without CarPlay, but couldn't use Spotify with CarPlay. Despite them spending 4 hours on my install and already paying, I was extremely please with them not leaving me unhappy. They were able to give me a VERY reasonable price for an upgrade to the 8100 NEX without paying for additional labor. I trust these guys, and know they won't try to screw you. read more

I would never take any high-end vehicle to CCS. Their work is as shoddy as it is amateur. Beyond just my vehicle, I've seen their work on several other's cars and all displayed sub-par workmanship and attention to detail. Fortunately, I was able to repair the buffoonery on my own time, but at the cost of new floor mats since the old ones were ruined. I'm not sure how these guys even remain in business. I mentioned the sloppiness to the owner, and was promptly blown off since the customer is always wrong at CCS. He was also quick to lie about what was done or not done and cover his a$$. He's the chief problem here, so I don't see this business improving...ever. If you've got a POS car, take it here. If not, forget it. read more

These guys are definitely top notch! Came in to get some Hertz 165 Xls installed in my 2015 Malibu as well as a JL 600/4 HD to power them. There sales manager Jonathon was very helpful and what I liked most about him was he didn't come off like a "salesman". He was very upfront and direct about the install I wanted. Julian, one of their installers was also very helpful and knowledgeable. He really took his time and did some really clean work. Oh and I also decided to have him dynamat my doors inside and out which ended up making a huge difference in sound quality. He not only did what I came in their for but fixed a bunch of stuff that my previous audio shop screwed up. Went in to have an amp and sub hooked up. They finished the install within an hour, and everything sounded superb. Came back later on that day to have them install new door and 6 x9 speakers. They were really busy and about to close but squeezed me in to the schedule. Employees are hard workers, owner is fair with his prices. I was new to Houston and had just bought a new BMW M3, but was very unhappy with the factory equipment. After asking around at both Greenway Mercedes and Momentum BMW, everyone I spoke to when my cars were in for service said Custom Car Stereo was the ONLY place to take a highline car. So I made an appointment with Chris Franks to see what could be done for my new M3. He spent about 45 minutes going over pro's and con's of several options, showed me photographs of previous installs, and I even spoke to a few customers in the waiting room and everything seemed to be just what I was looking for. I left the keys with Chris right away and was looking at a 2 week install process...and with everything being done to my car that seemed reasonable. After a few "check-in calls" from Chris, the car was completed a couple of days early and I made my was to CCS to pick up the car. It looked and sounded AMAZING! Not only was the car as clean as the day I dropped it off, but there was nothing out of place. The installation was immaculate...no visable wiring, sub box was a perfect fit & finish, radar system looked like it came from the factory and the sound...oh, the sound was flawless! I was a bit hesitant at first about spending the amount of money that I did, but it was more than worth it. I'm very glad that I listened to the masses.
