Then I found Quantum internet. For the longest time I thought they only do dial-ups, however, they do have other real services such as a real DSL(dry loop), voice, T1, etc. I ordered the 6M DSL dry loop( no phone service). After a day of use I do notice some significant improvement over the Verizon service. 1) Tier 1 backbone, looks like my service is served by Quest/Century link. This saved 2 hops to get to Yahoo(11 vs 13), and average round trip goes from 480ms to 47ms. That is impressive. 2) Dealing with local people. From the sales people, to the technicians, they are all not far away, very friendly and easy to deal with. 3) speed test reveals, I do get the 6M advertised speed regardless of where the servers are, 147 miles away or 2500 mile away. looks like the speed is capped by the local switch. 3) higher speed is available. since I am less than a mile away from their the COLO, my speed can get up to 19M, although they don't offer any service over 9M. I am sure if you pay them enough, and talked to the nice people in the office, they can do it if they wanted to. So bottom line, usually it cost MORE to shop at your local merchant, but in this case, the cost and service way exceed their giant competitor.

I emailed James on a Sunday, and although it was a weekend, James promptly answered all of my questions on the same day (and I sent him a ton of emailes), so I scheduled the service. The service tech (Anthony) called me in the morning and let me know when he would be arriving. Anthony arrived on time and promptly and professionally installed my two TVs. Then TOM (the SENIOR NETWORK ENGINEER) the smooooooth talker (who never delivers on the CRAP he spews so do not believe him) started being a complete jerk to me when I would question the bills.(DOUG SHOULD FIRE HIM) Their only good tech left almost a year ago now. The cherry on top was when we wanted to have our website redone by them, The meeting with Doug (the owner and boss) was extremly drawn out and he constantly talked about how smart he was and how this was his company and so on and so on O and do not forget his NSA stories WHAT A JOKE, so we contiued and went and talked to Kelly (the photograher and web designer and the daughter of Doug, i think they are all related actually) she was very snouty and had some very disturbing photography on the walls of the office which made me very scared of what our website would look like(dead birds and people in bathrooms WIERD STUFF). The guy I talked to, Zach, let me borrow a phone in the meantime so I could still have a phone to use. I thought that was exceptional customer service. He really went above and beyond for me. Although he wasn't able to help me with my initial issue, Zach was able to still help me in some way. I used to use Verizon and I switched to T-Mobile because it was more affordable for me. I had sold my business (but maintained my biz account) several years ago. THEN I WALKED INTO a LOCAL TM STORE. I mentioned I didn't need a biz account so they suggest I open up an individual account. I said OK BUT THEY NEVER CLOSE MY ORIGINAL ACCOUNT and NEGLECT TO TELL ME MONTHLY SERVICE is 30% more per month. I NOW HAVE 2 ACCOUNTS!! I GET DOUBLE-BILLED FOR JUNE AND NO ONE TAKES OWNERSHIP TO RESOLVE IT! So I cancel after 20+ yrs and they could care less.
