Cushnoc Brewing is a fun pizza joint and beer bar in central Augusta. We got the Fort Western (delicious and not too heavy) and the Bond Street (a bit too much grease and honey, but tasty). Delicious! Best pizza I've had in Maine. Had my favorite - mushroom, onion, & pepperoni on red sauce with root beer.

The food and service was excellent! Specifically, I had never claimed pizza to be "delicious"...until Cushnoc!

Went in for lunch today and this type of place has been lacking in Augusta area for years. It's surprising how long it's taken Central Maine to catch on to the brewery hype that elsewhere in the state have had for awhile. If you are looking for a fun and inviting atmosphere with delicious food and high quality beer, this is the place. For food, we had nachos to start, which was a generous portion loaded with plenty of toppings. Then we got a pizza called The Diner Closes at 2pm, that came topped with thinly sliced potatoes, bacon, eggs, white sauce, and a maple syrup drizzle. The flavors all worked so well together. I'd argue it's the best pizza by far in the local area especially since it's cooked in a wood fire. Definitely will be returning to try other pizza varieties. Then for beer I tried a flight of 4 of their 5 available in house beers. They also had a small offering of guest tap beers and some wines and full bar available. The four beers I had were all high quality and look forward to coming back for new brews. I had a kolsch (Kresge), American IPA (All Souls), Belgian IPA (Eternal Golden Eagle), and their newly released Wild Ale (SturgeonFox) using wild yeast to ferment the beer. A great new place for Maine beer lovers and foodies to an area in need of new places. Would be good as a place to stop in for a beer after work or dinner with the family or a large group too. Great spot for a casual and fun meal. We did not try the beer (or any other drinks) but really enjoyed the dill pickle popcorn, bread/cheese bites, and pizzas. We really enjoyed our visit to the brewery. The beer was great, the pizza was delicious. We went with friends and visited for a couple of hours. We were traveling from Rockland to Topsham, avoiding route 1 and took Route 17. Stopped in at Cushnoc Brewing after seeing the reviews on Yelp. The pizza was so fresh tasting! There are a lot of pizza places charging $30+ for their pizzas which is ridiculous. Go here and you will not be disappointed. read more

This brewery was an amazing gem in Augusta and well worth stopping for. The restaurant is located in a former shop front and their decor is very eclectic and visually pleasing (AKA, chill and fun). The pizzas are awesome and their brew selection is modest but diverse. They have everything from a Kölsch to a stout and every thing in between. They even have an alcohol-free beer and a hard cider on tap (as well as a full bar with spirits and wine). Their menu offers plenty of low and gluten free options such as their starters, salads, and gluten free crusts for their pizzas. I had the gluten free Mill Park (squash, bacon, sprouts, balsamic glaze) and my family split a build-your-own. Both were delicious and hit the spot for a chill family evening. The waitstaff (Alex in particular) were very solicitous and helpful, which made the experience even more enjoyable! read more

Definitely more of a restaurant feel than a brewery. We didn't love the QR code ordering--their online menu wasn't clear, especially for drinks. If the code had brought up a PDF menu it would have been better. Our kids had the cheese pizza and we got one with butternut squash, balsamic, Brussel sprouts, and bacon. Not my usual pizza order but it was really good. This isn't a place I'm dying to go back to, and I'm sure there are other good places in Augusta to check out, but I'd surely return if it worked out. read more

Very trendy spot and lively atmosphere. We had a short wait time of about 20 minutes even though it was very busy. The waiter was knowledgeable and was able to make great recommendations for our vegan friends. I am not much of a beer enthusiast so I was happy to see that they had cocktails options. Highly recommend their spicy margarita. Pizza is made to order and is the perfect amount of crispy. We had the Cony High Pie and loved it. What can I say about this place besides its a must stop if you're in Augusta. Perfect spot to grab a bite and a drink. I recommend the Bond Street pizza because it was amazing. A welcome and needed addition to downtown Augusta on the Kennebec. I love the history of the name, look it up! I'm happy for Cushnoc and the Augusta area to be developing with high quality spots. I finally visited Cushnoc and had a pretty good visit. We arrived on a Sunday around 1pm, first mistake. We sat at the bar and the bartender was slammed. We were disappointed not to have been acknowledged sooner. We were waiting for friends to arrive so we got beers and rosemary sea salt popcorn to share. The popcorn was warm and delicious. The beers were pretty good, with good potential. We got a table once our friends arrived and we shared 2 pizzas. They were both delicious and affordable. 2 people can share 1 pie with leftovers. We soon learned there is a tasting room directly below the restaurant, just know you have to walk/drive around the building to get there, no access from inside. The tasting room has a larger selection of Cushnoc brews and they even do crowler fills. read more

Outdoor seating was hidden around the corner and very nice shaded picnic tables available. Not too busy, lots of attention and knowledgeable wait staff and just good fresh dishes. This was a fun unexpected treat. We didn't know it existed until we were in search of a restaurant that could accommodate a party of 11. They could, and did. And we were not disappointed. We ordered cocktails, beer / cider, and soda. Our waters were kept full and plenty of attention was paid to our party. We ordered several pizzas(7), and chicken nachos. The restaurant was newer and had a simple utilitarian build out. Very open making it fairly noisy. Some knee walls or smartly located partitions might help diffuse the noise ...but they can do that whenever. We ordered most of the specialty pizzas and liked all of them. This place is missing wings and fries but they likely don't want them on the menu. It's trendy, and hipster which might be why. However I know from experience this absence being purposeful leaves many wondering why.. (Rhetorical) I enjoyed the experience, I'm sure you will also ...if you have a hankering for a delicious pie. There are definite reasons I will be back, here is just a few: 1. Buffalo Honey popcorn...what you say...yes, it was the flavor of the night and oh my goodness I almost slapped the hand of my friend sharing the bowl as I wanted all the yummy goodness for myself. 2. Great selection of Beer and other Adult beverages for those not beer drinkers. 3. The diverse pizza options. Our group of 6 got 5 different ones and it was great to get to try them. Will definitely be back to finish off the menu choices and don't forget they have a new pizza special of the day...ours was a take on Thai...with a peanut sauce. Very good! The only cons I can think of are: 1. Can get rather loud, granted we were at the long central table. 2. If you want to continue the beer drinking at their annex, there is no quick way to get there. Cushnoc Brewing is a small, modern brewery in the downtown area of Augusta. When you walk in, you're greeted with a open floor plan and the smells of delicious wood fired pizza. The center of the space has these cool long tables with bench seating that runs parallel to their lively bar area. The menu was appealing and had some bar staples and some interesting twists. The draft list was great - their beer is tasty (I had the pleasure of sampling some at the Maine Brewers Guild festival) all in all, I'd love to come back to try another pizza and see the view of the Kennebec when it's summer. read more

So, walked into the place to order to-go. Went to the bar, ordered my food to go, and asked the bartender "how long does it usually take?" Floored when he rudely replied, "I can't bump you up on the list, you'll have to wait." WHAT!? I never asked to be bumped up, I just wanted to know if I had time to enjoy one of their brews while I waited. Anyway, I did end up getting one of their IPAs, which was actually very good. Unfortunately, the beer was the last good thing I had here. Here's what I tried: Sand Hill Classic: let's start at the crust. Nothing gets me going more than uneven, burnt crust. I know that you can have nice even cooked crust in a food fire oven mainly because I've experienced it before multiple times. The crust is just burned, soft, and crunchy. I will say that the parts that are cooked well have a good flavor to them. There was supposed to be "red sauce" on the pizza. I'm guessing they call it "red sauce" without a flavor qualifier so that their flavorless red sauce isn't mistaken for marinara sauce. If it was intended to be marinara sauce it needs work and flavor. There are large slices of the Genoa salami but really doesn't add much to the pie. A little overpriced too. Overall, not a great place for pizza, overpriced, and absolutely rude service. I was hoping since I didn't get "bumped up" in line that my pizza would be well cooked since I allowed them adequate time, but it was not. I would not recommend this place to anyone for pizza. I will say that their beer was good and the restaurant itself seemed like it might not be a bad place to have a few beers with friends. read more
