So much great variety for $12 day pass. Locals pay less but it's worth every penny. Lots of trail variety and trails are labeled based on skill level required. I will say advanced trails here seem pretty normal. Not sure what their baseline is. Trails and entire park are well maintained. Helpful staff at the visitors center. Stopped in for a quick overnight stay. The park is big with a few lakes to fish, some hiking , biking and fun camping. It's a very pretty park. There are a lot of spots to tent or pull in your camper or trailer. The rangers were friendly but recommend a reservation in the busy months. We went in September and had no problem getting a spot. There are hook ups and dome nice bathrooms if needed. read more

Such a beautiful park!!! Absolutely love this place and all its natural beauty, wildlife, and trails. They also offer a variety of camp sites, restrooms, even had a small general store for some odds and ends. Came out to Wyoming from the PNW for my nieces graduation ceremony. Loved hanging out with my family. I am used to walking trails daily, and kept asking if they knew of any. We walked a few nearby, but made the drive for this park, and let me say it's well worth it. We drove out of Cheyenne, so it wasn't that bad of a drive. We ended up parking in the lot and went out hiking on some short trails. Then drove down to the lakes and went out the back road. Seen some small furries but not much else. This place brings me peace. Just the view from various lookout points was breathtaking. I was looking for a good fishing spot near I-80. This did the trick. I researched the specifics and it turned out well. I fished by the dam on Granite Lake off the shore. There were many stocked trout, even mid-day. I used a Carolina rig with yellow Powerbait. Plenty of bites, but these trout know how to steal your bait. Not big fish, but fun for a short stop. read more

This review is for crow creek to hidden falls trail which is in curt gowdy state park. there is not a parking lot at the trail head. will need to park before the resevoir at shoreline trail or across the road at the reservoir there is no bathroom. if you need to use the bathroom stop at the visitor center there is a day pass fee.. $7 for residents. $12 for non residents. if you pay at visitor center you can use cash or card. if you go to somewhere supposedly near some trail you would need cash only. there are no poop bags for dogs at the trailhead. so if you are bringing your pups bring some bags!!! there are also no trash cans that i saw so plan on packing out what you pack in. including dog poop bags there is a sign that says there is a bear in the area. so know that before you go. there is a lot of shade, and a creek lining most of the trail. to get to the falls you will need to go over some boulders and then walk a little bit in the water. either bring water shoes or plan on taking off your boots. the water was mostly ankle deep but did get up to thigh high near the falls. im 5 foot 8. it was a lovely trail though! read more

We loved this park! We were off season tent camping and had our pick of campsites. We picked one, right by the water, nestled in the trees. In the morning, we were able to take our showers in the visitor center and walk the beautiful trails. The view is gorgeous! If we are ever back in this part of the country, we definitely would stay here again! read more

This is a very beautiful state park with RV and tent camping. You can camp (RV or tent) right next to the water! There are plenty of bathrooms and a visitor's center here as well. You do need to pay a small fee to camp or visit and reservations to camp are required during the peak times. I spent the afternoon here by the water and had a picnic. There were people biking, fishing, hiking, canoeing and hanging out. We brought binoculars to scope out the variety of cool birds. Next time I want to bring some bikes so I can get on the trails! read more

This review is for tent camping only. Reserve well in advance for a campsite away from others. We only reserved a month in advance and our campsite was within 5 yards of the people camping next to us on each side. The only water spigot we could find was a mile away, so it isn't exactly convenient. The bathrooms are vault toilets with no running water and no hand sanitizer, so bring your own hand washing stuff. There is zero shade at most of the sites. That said, it was a great location. The "camp store" had a good selection of stuff at very fair prices. The vault toilets were kept very clean. We'll camp here again, if we can reserve one of the sites that was away from everyone else, otherwise, you feel like you are camping in a parking lot. read more

It's a great park, but mostly during the winter. I like to fish along the Crow Creek Trail all the way into the Hidden Falls but only in the colder months. During the summer, the trail is over-crowded 99% of the time. A LOT of Greenies (Coloradans) come up because they have crowded and trashed their own parks. Much like Rob Roy and the Laramie lakes, the Greenies invade this park for the entire summer. They are very loud, obnoxious and I really with they'd charge them more to enter the park (and camp there as well) to dissuade them from their invasive behavior. The state stock the lakes with fish each year, so the fishing can be okay (except where the boats keep trolling or zooming by). There are better hidden areas that I simply won't talk about here for fear the Greenies invade those great fishing holes as well. For those looking to rent a space with RV hook-ups, do it FAR in advance because again, the Greenies steal a lot of the good spots for the entirety of the summer season. People don't just camp for a night and leave, they live there for the summer. Keep your dogs on a leash. Every time that I go up to Curt Gowdy, there are jack-wads that think their dog is a perfect little angel off of a leash. Wyoming Residents open/conceal carry and bow and arrows (there's a range at Gowdy), so take that into consideration with dogs that might be mistaken as aggressive breeds off of a leash. As was posted, there are bears. There are also mountain lions, and on occasion coyotes. Fluffy off of her leash would make a great snack for a bear or mountain lion. One last note. If you do go for the day, take a First Aid kit. I have used mine on adults/children that have gotten scraped up on the rocks along the trails many times. Take lots of water, and sunscreen. There are no water stations along the trails. While you are at it grab a handy trail map at the Visitor's Center. read more

A costly rip-off. They charged us $60.00 extra for 2 relatives to stay with us for a night. That is more than the original cost of the campsite. Showers were over a mile away. Don't go there! That cost is not fully explained on their registration pages. read more

This was our first visit to this park from California. Wish I would have found this park when I was looking for a place to take our 5 th wheel. Great park. there was a beautiful lake with inlets with little sandy beaches. lots of hiking trails. and equestrian area if you are into that. and the sky put on such a light show! thunderstorms to the east with beautiful rainbows at sunset and zillions of stars. they had sites that were first come first serve and that was great as I did not have a reservation.I stayed here on my way out and It was so nice that I stayed here again on my way back. would love to be there for the persiod meteor showers in August. My campsite was on a hill so I got good cell phone reception. they do have one camping area with WiFi according to the campground map legend. read more

I would be hard pressed to rate Curt Gowdy State Park at any less than 5 stars -- there HAS to be a reason that this was our 4th year in a row for a nice pre-fall visit. We love Curt Gowdy for a lot of reasons. Here are just a few: 1. World class mountain biking. And I do mean world-class! At least 40 miles of single track combined between the trails located on both ends of the reservoirs. And something for everyone! My 9yo son had a blast this year on a nice 8 mile ride -- Stone Temple, Pinball....admittedly not your average 9yo mountain biker, but still... For the less adventurous, there is a great 2-3 mile trail that runs along both reservoirs -- singletrack, but not technical at all. 2. Water sports! While we don't motor boat, we often take our inflatable kayak for a little paddling fun. This year, the paddleboards were out in force....it looked like a ton of fun! No swimming allowed, but if you really must get wet, bring a paddle board. And fall off! ;-) 3. Clean facilities. We are mostly self-contained in our happy little camper, but our friends are not, and except for a few flies (unavoidable), the bathroom facilities are quite clean. Some sites are more private and quiet than others, as to be expected at any state park. And like a lot of state parks, these two factors are inversely related to each other. Two or three of the loops have electric hookups, which means NO GENERATORS, but which also means that the sites are pretty close together. Sites on the South side are more private (and shaded), but the generators are a bit of a buzz kill. The long and short of it is, that if you love to camp and mountain bike, you won't find much better within 2 hours of the Boulder/Denver area! read more

Had a great time camping here during CFD. We have a travel trailer and I think this place might be more suited for those of us who are RVing. Camp sites are pretty close together and we had a neighbor complain about our minimal generator noise at 10:00... Really? It's a vacation have some fun and stay up past your bedtime. read more

Had to do dry camping in our motorhome due to Frontier days in Cheyenne, but this is a beautiful place to camp! Sites are very spacious, lots of privacy. Love that they have a small general store, super friendly people. Only minor complaint is the showers. They were paid showers and the hand held shower leaked and when switched to overhead it came with such force it couldn't stand under it. However, they were clean and private. read more

Beautiful campground at a lake. Can't beat the views! We showed up with no reservation and have met a nice lady who helped us find a spot. You need a little time and luck to find a spot, if you do not have a reservation. There is no running water and no electricity, but they have toiletts. We stayed in our RV, was just fine to get a good night sleep during our roadtrip. If you need to use the restroom bring a flashlight. Beatiful views and very peaceful! read more

We drove from Denver to Wyoming and we definitely didn't want to miss the opportunity to see this beautiful park . It's gorgeous but something that is not easy to find and convenience is the " parking ". There are no signs showing where to go or where to park . The park itself is fantastic, the campsite was just fine (lakeview by the campfire), but the electrical didn't work. I made a reservation online, then showed up at 6PM. No confirmation of my reservation was left, so I just helped myself to a random site. (At other places I'd made online reservations, a little note or list was left at the gate, or my name was written on the signpost at my site). read more

My family and I have camped at Curt Gowdy a couple of times now and it is definitely one of our favorite places to go. Lots of area to bike ride, hike, and play make this place fun for my kids as well as my wife and I. The park is big enough where you can go many times and do different things every time and explore a new area that you haven't been to before. The only drawback (and I didn't feel it enough of a drawback to reduce its rating) is that quiet hours start at 10pm (which is not my complaint), however neighbors are typically loud until around 1am. I'm a pretty light sleeper when not in my own bed and so I find it very difficult to get a decent night's rest when I am there. I wish they did a better job of enforcing quiet hour rules. Thankfully, my wife and kids are often better sleepers than me. Maybe I'll just need to find a more desolate camping spot next time. Overall though, my family and I love Curt Gowdy and can't wait to go again and see what new place we will explore next time. read more

It's $125.75 for two nights of tent camping with 4 people, 2 cars, 1 tent. More than one passenger car requires an additional $25/ per car per night fee, which isn't transparent on their website. We were told that these fees are going towards more electric hookups and amenities. Trails are great though. I recommend camping at Vedauwoo and paying $8/night to camp in a more peaceful/non RV-filled setting. read more

I loved this campsite. We drove cross-country and stayed for a night, and had a wonderful experience. We reserved a large campsite right next to the lake and beyond it being beautiful, it was clean, the bathrooms easily accessible and they had a large visitors center with wifi which came in handy as there was no cell reception. What a gem of a park. We came for the day during a recent visit to Cheyenne and loved our hike on the Crow Creek Trail. The scenery was beautiful. Would love to come back with bikes and paddleboards and camp here in the future. We didn't see many tent camping sites that looked nice and private, however. The RV camping spots near the water seemed to be spacious and private by RV camping standards (ie they are somewhat spread out, so it doesn't look like one big motor home parking lot), but not private like what we prefer with tent camping. Definitely a beautiful place to explore. read more

I have used the reservation system and also dry camped. If you reserved a spot and show up after 7:00 pm, there is no one there to check you in and don't bother calling the phone number on the sign. There won't be anyone there either. Just wait until someone is at the booth the next day. The scenery is beautiful and there is plenty of hiking and other activities. The lakes are small and Granite can be overwhelmed with jet skis and boats while Crystal has fewer boats, people, and limited accessibility. There is NO swimming in the lake. Only one road is paved for a small ways into the park. This park has the absolute worst roads I have experienced in any state park. If you decide to drive from Granite to Crystal, make sure you take it slow over the washboards and double check all of your bolts and screws in your car/camper/boat when you get back. The small portion of paved road is better, but not much. Wyoming is a little behind most other states as far as their state parks are concerned. This place is also starting to get a little over crowded for the size of the park as they are continuing to build new campgrounds there and taking away some of the beauty. There is someone who sells food and other stuff out of a trailer and someone else that rents paddleboards and kayaks out of a steel storage container. The visitor center is a nice newer building that has a whole lot of nothing in it except a giant map of the park. There are also pay showers in the basement of the visitor center. There is no camp store (for small items that you may have forgotten) but Cheyenne and Laramie are a little less than a half hour drive away. But like I said, it is a beautiful setting. Fix the roads, reservation system, and amenities and it might begin to be on par with parks in other states. read more

If you're tent camping, go elsewhere. The campsite we were assigned had virtually no grass, no shade, no running water, and a rotted picnic table. The handicapped site next to us, unused, had a shelter, concrete table, a lot of grass, so we moved to there. (My wife is disabled after all.) The park has a million dollar visitor's center but can't put electric lights in their primitive bathrooms that had no water though there was electricity and water within fifteen feet for an RV. We also could not get assistance by phone at all after hours after calling all the numbers they gave us. Instead of spending a fortune on a visitor's center they should have upgraded the campsites first. The reviews here on YELP for this park must be RV owners to give it five stars. A storm forced us from staying after getting just one tent up in the wind and rain. We had to leave and come back the next morning to retrieve our gear. That was why we were trying to call those running the place, to no avail. I hope nobody has a real emergency after hours. read more
