Curshaws have opened a new restaurant in Leek, following on from 3 other venues they already run in Cheshire. It is located in the premises of the former No 64, and as such has pretentions to being a high class restaurant. The venue has been refurbished although looks similar to how it did before except for the colour (now a vivid purple!) and is still not easily accessible for anyone with a disability, the restaurant being up a steep staircase. The food was OK but nothing special, but was good value as we went for the 3 course Sunday lunch option for £9.95. However, I was astonished to find that there was no vegetarian option on the menu, which was a bit of a problem as one of our party was veggie. The service was a bit hit and miss, with people asking us things someone else had previously asked, and at other times orders not turning up very promptly. The staff were very friendly and polite but extremely young and obviously inexperienced - not really what you would expect from somewhere with pretensions to being an expensive, high class restaurant (normal prices being quite steep). All in all, we agreed it was pleasant for what we had paid, but we would not be going back in a hurry. read more
