- The chicken was a bit dry
So I was coming into Glasgow after a summer of being abroad to visit a friend. As it was late and I had barely eaten during the trip I decided I needed something that is hard to find in Sweden, takeway curry. I was almost about to walk up the road to some unnamed hole-in-the-wall, when I saw that the Curry Pot was still open (just before midnight). As I had been there once before and had the memory of it being a decent enough place, I gave it a shot.
The girl behind the counter is helpful and informative when I try to decide what I want. Something spicy and flavourful, and I settle for Ginger and Lemon Chicken curry and I'm promised some extra sting for this one. As the curry plus rice would cost almost £8, I decide to shell out the difference to £10 to make it a one person set meal, including Pakora (Chicken, no extra charge) and Poppodoms and I also get an extra chapati. I do get to wait a fair amount of time, but I am luckily not in a hurry.
Once at my friend's flat with my food I am pleased to see that the chicken pakora are more closely resembling pakora than any chicken pakora I've tried earlier. They are however a bit on the dry side. The chapati is as expected and the rice wasn't anything interesting, but I had ordered it plain, so there. The star of the show is of course the curry itself, which is as promised brimming with spicyness and flavour. Sadly the chicken chunks don't live up to the same standard, being large and rather dry.
I'm having a bit of trouble giving this a verdict, having memories of the curries at Mr Singh's and Mother India, but to compare this takeaway place with these quality restaurants is a bit unfair. It thus becomes a 4/5, one of the better places to get a takeaway curry if you have 15 or so minutes to wait for it. An added bonus is their extensive less costly menu with meals at £5 or less. read more
