We wanted to make reservations for dinner on a Thursday but no one answered the phone. We decided to head over to the restaurant a few minutes before we planned to dine with friends only to discover they weren't open and a hand lettered writing on the door said they were closed Thursdays and Sundays. We did return the next evening, now knowing that they would be open on Friday. The restaurant shares an entryway with a popular bar. It was amusing watching people enter the main door and then turn one way or the other to enter a business, only to realize they want the other door. I saw a few families with little kids start towards the bar and then turn to the restaurant. Groups in motorcycle jackets did the reverse. A signboard at the entrance to the restaurant invites customers to choose a table and then help themselves to chips and salsa. My husband and I split an entrée and it was more then enough for the both of us. Portion sizes are generous. The food was very good. Much better than Casa Ramos or Puerto Vallarta. If you want Mexican food in Mount Shasta, stay away from those chains and go to La Perla for a much better meal at reasonable prices to boot. We enjoyed the background music, with songs from the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Paul Simon, The Proclaimers.

The guac was okay it just tasted like avocado so we put a little bit of salt and lime. The carne asada tacos were cooked perfect! Our server was really nice and sweet. Had a great time!

Chips and salsa/bean was your standard, nothing out of the ordinary. The staff were all friendly and were helpful and checking in on us throughout the meal to make sure we needed anything, or refills. The seafood soup came out first and boy was that bowl huge! Had a good amount of shrimp with one huge prawn. Lots of fish- wasn't too big of a fan for the fish as it did take over the overall taste of the soup. Was on the saltier side for the broth. We also ordered the combo chicken and shtetl fajitas. Came sizzling hot, a little too much sizzle or the timing may have been off, because we had a few super burnt pieces of steak. Again, nothing to crazy good about. Just your average. If anything, the staff made the experience better.

Tucked in to a shopping center near the movie theatre, you can find Puerto Vallarta Mexican Restaurant. Upon entering, I was taking in all the festive decorations, sombreros adorning corners all around the space, bright vibrant colors, and even the unique chairs. Our server was Erin and she was just delightful! From the moment we sat down, she was super attentive and made sure we had all we need. Our waters stayed filled, our food was hot and fresh, and everything was delicious! Even though we came in late and real close to their closing time, we never felt rushed and Erin treated us like we were guests at her house and she continued to check in on us...providing such rare service. She seriously stood out to everyone in our party. So looking forward to being back in shasta and making another stop at Puerto Vallarta family Mexican restaurant.
