Have not been to curry house in over a year. Last time I was there with my fiancé and we decided to dine in. When our food came out, my fiancé found a long piece of hair in his curry. We brought it to their attention and they started making a big scene out of it and even tried to blame it on me. I was in the area and decided to give them another try and call in an order to go. As soon as I open the box of rice, there was hair about 2 inches long sticking out of the rice. I go to pull it and about 10 more inches come out. Shows that they are the same disgusting place as they were before. Save your money or go somewhere else. read more

So depressing when you are excited for curry and you end up with really bad food. This was just terrible. The vegetables were a bag of cheap frozen ones. Both dishes were terrible. The naan and rice was good. The service was fine. I don't understand how it has such good reviews. Maybe we just ordered the wrong dishes. read more

By far the absolute WORST Indian food, and experience I've ever had at a restaurant from the owner and daughter. Avoid at all costs. I never leave reviews, but I absolutely had to for this experience. I went with my family after my sisters graduation from WWU for some dinner. We came here 4 years back after my graduation, and the food was decent so we decided to come back for my sisters graduation. This time we were treated with the saltiest daal and karahi paneer, and the chicken tikka masala was the most bland chicken I've ever had in my life. It was like they made it straight from the packets you buy at a store. Me and my sister barely touched the chicken. On top of that the raita was missing from our order, and the cooks in the back said they were out so they whipped up some watery mixture. I wish I took a pic. It was disgusting. The waitress who was attending to us was nice, however, she never came once and asked us how the food was so after waiting for some time and nobody showed up we decided to just deal with the food and attempt to eat it because we don't like to waste food. Afterwards when the bill came we mentioned to the waitress that the food wasn't very good, so she said I'll talk to the cook and owner. When the waitress came back, she said the owner didn't want to talk to us because we already ate half the food. We asked to speak to the owner again afterwards, and his daughter came out and yelled at us, and told us to never come back to the restaurant, and that they had voided the bill. We weren't going to leave without paying for our meal - we just wanted to let the owner know that something was wrong with the food. So again we asked to speak to the owner, and he came out and started yelling loudly at his daughter and staff that because we were Indian that we were trying to get a free meal out of this. My family, and I heard this, and my dad went up to speak to the owner. My dad was beyond polite, but the owner cussed my dad out in front of everybody. We decided to leave it at that, and asked for the bill because we were not leaving without paying. The owner told us to get out of his restaurant, and never come back, and stormed back into the kitchen. Because we didn't want to leave without paying we left cash at the front of the register and left. This was by far the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. The owner couldn't take criticism at all, and on top of that was being racist. I wish I had gotten this all on video. I would never recommend this place to anyone, not even my worst enemy. read more

We stopped off on a road trip and were surprised and delighted with far better food than we'd have expected. We were there for a late lunch and were the only diners. It's a nice family-run restaurant with very polite and welcoming service, and tasty food! The prices were reasonable, portions were generous, and we left very satisfied. As someone who has grown up on Indian food both across Canada and throughout the UK, I had high hopes for this place, seeing as it has 4/5 stars. Sadly I was extremely disappointed. We ordered our standard benchmark order of vegetable pakoras, chicken tikka masala, and one veggie curry dish. The pakoras were good, but were not accompanied with the usual tamarin sauce but instead some strange red oily liquid which was sweet and spicy. I accepted the different variation and held out for the curries, only to be presented what I can only describe as the most pathetic excuse for a chicken tikka masala I've ever seen. It wasn't the right color of sauce nor did the sauce have the right balance of spice and creaminess that I'm used to. The vegetable curry dish was especially poor as it was just a serving of frozen vegetables mixed in with a lame korma sauce. The naan was acceptable but the garlic on it wasn't fresh, which was just the final nail in the coffin for me. I've tried all the Indian places in Bellingham now and I can safely say if I'm feeling in the mood for a curry, I'll be grabbing my passport and heading up to Vancouver. At least the exchange rate is in my favor at the moment and I know there will be a good chicken tikka waiting for me. read more

The food was ok/good. However do not go there with kids or a large party with kids. The food was ok, not bad really for Ferndale. However it was *very* spicy. This is not a problem unless you order "kids basmati" for a 3,6,and 12 year old to share and it is so spicy they can't eat it. Even normally mild dishes like samosas which are **always** served with hot sauces and tamarind sauce were ;1. served without sauce amd 2 was pretty spicy (my husband is from Jalisco Mexico, I know spicy) and my kids could not eat it. The service was TERRIBLE. They forgot 1/2 the dishes (like the KIDS FOOD HELLO?!) the lassi and the potato stuffed naan. They do not give you an itemized bill so if you have dishes you cancelled because they go there too late to enjoy (like appetizers after first course (again huh?!) or dishes they cancelled because they ran out..or dishes you did not like or came too late they don't make mention that the dishes are untouched, or ask why they are untouched or mention their HORRID service and at least apologize. They don't give an itemized bill so you just pay them at the register up front. If you have a large party or had lots of errors you end up getting a HUGE bill for bad service and food that was just ok. Next time I want Indian food I'll go to the food court at the Mall. At least I know that I am not getting reamed and that I'll get the food I ordered. Go elsewhere unless you are a small party of only adults and you like really hot spicy food.; read more

Whatcom County is a bit of a wasteland for ethnic cuisine. With Vancouver so close to the north and Seattle just a bit farther to the south, there's very little reason to put up with the sub-par Chinese, Mediterranean, Vietnamese, or Japanese food that's locally available. There is some fair Thai food, but Indian food? Nothing at all...until one discovers this little gem just off the freeway in downtown Ferndale. We've eaten there a half-dozen times now, and have consistently been favorably impressed. The family that owns Curry House have an obvious interest in making their guests happy. No, not where you go for ambiance (what, no kitschy brass elephants?), rather Curry House provides what so many restaurants lack: genuine warmth from hosts who both care about their customers and who have some excellent culinary skills. As for that ambiance and the comment that another poster made on the service: this is a mom-and-pop restaurant. The ambiance is almost that of a big family kitchen: not fancy, but very inviting, open, accessible and friendly. NOT intimidating in any way, you will be comfortable bringing the kids and wearing your weekend play clothes. In addition to the owners, the wait staff seem to be comprised of family members rather than professional, career waiters. Friendly, if not as polished as some in the big city. But that isn't what this place is about. You will appreciate the subtleties of spice and flavor; excellent ingredients put together in a way that avoids the all-to-common heavyhandedness of so many Indian restaurants. You will not be overwhelmed with cardamom or curry or spicy heat, rather you will enjoy complex flavors on par with the best Indian cuisine available anywhere. Not familiar with Indian food? Tell them that. Ask the owner for suggestions and she will guide you through the small but excellent menu. Experiment with the delightful sauces, mix a lamb dish with a vegetarian curry, add some chicken samosa appetizers. Be sure to enjoy the amazing lassi drinks that go so well with their more spicy dishes. No, it doesn't have to be a mango lassi...just have the plain yogurt lassi and it will surprise and delight you. Excellent teas, too, and wine is available if you must. A bit above average on price, but so far above average on both quality of food and the genuine hospitality of the owners that it rates very highly; we're happy to support and help sustain such a sincere local enterprise. read more

I can't believe all the idiots who gave this place bad ratings because of the restaurant's decor and use of styrofoam to-go boxes. Get a life! I have been a regular at the Curry House for going on six years now, and have yet to have a bad experience. Their food is very good and the service is awesome. The family that runs the restaurant are just the nicest kind of people who will bend over backwards to make your meal a good dining experience. read more

The service is terrible when ever I visit. The TV is always blaring and the waitress never even checks in to see if water or drinks need refills, that is IF you get your water at all. The atmosphere is also very tacky and is pink every where you look. read more

Wow, incredible place for clean, natural, alive and very tasty Indian food! They make most of their food by scratch from very fresh ingredients. Not a suit and tie affair, smaller place but has a decent number of tables. The food, however, is incredible - it tastes great, and just as importantly, it leaves a healthy feeling afterglow for hours. I have had this experience every time that I have eaten there. I think that part of it is that a lot of Indian cuisine is designed around the "food as preventative medicine" concept (Ayurveda). read more

I was excited to try this place, since desi food in Bellingham is pretty horrible and I was hoping for a bright spot on a dark, sad, Indian food-less horizon since this place has pretty good reviews..... Sadly, this was not to be. This was probably the second-worst Indian food I have ever had :( My veg korma was made with one of those mixes of frozen vegetables (you know the ones - the peas, cubed carrots, corn, lima beans, and green beans that you probably ate microwaved as a kid), rather than fresh ingredients, and the sauce was fairly tasteless. It is advertised as having nuts and a creamy sauce, and there were no nuts and the sauce was definitely not creamy or flavorful. The chutneys were bland and made with food coloring, and my meal came with a side of bean soup that tasted like it came from a can. They charge between 1.50 and 3.49 for naan (depending on the flavor), which is pretty standard, but the order comes with only one piece cut in half to look like two. The samosas were decent. The only good thing about this experience was the family that runs the place seems very sweet. PLEASE make better food so that people can enjoy both the people AND the flavors! read more
