Someone who apparently was in charge was rather rude to her employee in front of customers something I am not fond of in any way at all. The WORST most unwelcoming slow service I have ever experienced. wasted an entire lunch break waiting for a chicken sandwich and fries. when it finally came out it was a frozen chicken patty on stale bread with no condiments. We had bought my in-laws a $50 gift card for Curly's Christmas. And during a dinner at another restaurant before Christmas my in-laws inadvertently mentioned the last time they had eaten at Curly's and that they saw a mouse running around the dining area. My mother-in-law told the waitress and my mother-in-law said the waitress just shrugged and did not seem bothered by it. They then said they would not be eating at Curly's again. So needless to say we then did not want to give them the Curly's gift card. I went to Curly's the next day and spoke with the manager and told her why I wanted to return the gift card. The manager's reaction was "well that happens. it's cold outside and mice come in. a lot of restaurants have that problem.". I said I don't want to debate it but want our money back for the gift card. So she made a copy of the receipt and took the gift card and said she would call the credit card company and that we should get the refund in 7 to 10 days. So it's been over two weeks and nothing. This will be the last time we deal with this place AND needless to say we will "mention" this "experience" to whoever will listen. read more

We went to Curly's Chicken House recently after many years. We were reminded why we hadn't been back sooner. The chips were stale, the BBQ sandwich was very dry and the fries were stuck together. I used to go to Curly's 55 years ago with my grandparents. I went back recently traveling from Florida. It brought back so many memories. I had the chicken of course. My husband had the haddock. It was delicious. The coleslaw was just as I remember. Just mix it in your bowl and heaven. The French fries were great. My husband bought me a pecan pie because I used to get it years ago. Yum. I have left the state for the west coast, and already have CURLY'S WITHDRAWAL SYMPTOMS!! I ate here almost every day. The menu is expanse with many different options. Yet the slow roasted remains the showcase. I couldn't get enough. The service is astounding and focused on every guest. No better place to eat some of the best chicken, coleslaw (legendary since enjoying it at Vi Kasians suggestion), and mashed with gravy. Everything at this restaurant is delicious and more than worthy of a stop when in the Elmira, Horseheads, or Corning area. Well worth the drive and wait. Simply the BEST. I have fond memories of this place as a child but we live in Schuyler County and don't get over that way very often. Today, my mom was in Elmira and decided to pick up dinner. The rotisserie chicken is VERY small. Smallest one I have ever seen. I can't even comment on the taste of it because it's so small I left it for my parents to eat. It's enough for 1.5 people MAYBE. And if it's good chicken, it's not enough for 1 person. For reference, we frequently purchase rotisserie chickens from Tops and Walmart so I am familiar with them. I got their Chicken Dinner with mashed potatoes and macaroni and it was the best I've ever had! Lets get to the food. Chicken: they claim to have the recipe down and been roasting chicken for 37 years. That's how it tasted. Dry like the chicken has been roasting for decades. It there was a flavor, it was masked by the coarseness of the chicken. Onion rings: it's hard to complain about something fried, so I'll say they were average. Biscuit: store bought by the bagful. Cole slaw: texture was pretty well done but it was too sweet for my palate. This place feels like you've stopped on Route 66 in the 1950s. Unique and quirky. Don't look for modern sophistication in a place like this...that's the point. Its more about retro. It's in a section of town that's been economically shrunk due to the highway moving, very much like Route 66. I'd stick to the chicken dinner and the chicken and biscuits which are very nice. The best in town for breakfast and they're chicken and biscuits is like mom made them back in the day. Fast and friendly service as well.

I have never ate inside the restaurant until the other day. Here is a run down of my experience.: Waitress was fantastic. I had a question about ordering the new fried chicken off a little menu on the table. She said she thought it was for carryout only but would get her supervisor. Supervisor was a disgrace. The little menu was not marked carryout only. She said the first two options were in house and the other two were carryout only. She said it is not on the main menu so I can't order it, but it was on several of the tables. Thursdays they have been trying to promote their new fried chicken. She refused to let me order the family size. So much for trying to promote your new item. So the fried chicken was not very good. The outside batter left much to be desired. Great little local joint that has been around forever! My mom and dad used to come here every Sunday night for dessert and since my dad and I were up here for the weekend, he had to introduce me! My thinking was FRESH moist chicken....., Can't miss. W* R*O*N*G AGAIN !! I ordered the 1/4 Dark and it WAS mealy and DRY AGAIN !! So I asked the waitress for some BBQ sauce to help me get it down. I paid the bill and told the hostess and she was shocked that it was DRY. * I stopped at a food place on Lake Street and told the 2 ladies about my lousy meal and they told me about the restaurant one had a friend that worked there before they closed and re-opened., so she had the "inside" scoop which was enough for me to never go back again. Everything is good at Curly's, no it is not high end nor does it claim to be. It is good home style food at reasonable prices. The majority of wait staff are friendly (there was one girl, I think she was canned! who was a horror). We have not had a bad meal at Curly's. Really the only negative are their deserts, the pies are obviously frozen and not home made. That is one thing they could improve on. I don't understand the negative reviews, the place is ALWAYS packed!? I think a lot of people are not prepared for a place that has no pretensions about itself they are what they are. As for those who complained about customer service I find that if I am kind and friendly the majority of time that is what I get in return, try it and see if your customer service experiences improve. read more

A group of us " girls" from local high school went there on March 14, 2019... about 10 of us... I really liked the food and the server was a very nice young lady.... I got the half chicken dinner with potato salad and coleslaw... wow... their coleslaw is the best in the Elmira , NY area.. and the potato salad was very good... both tasted homemade... like your Mom or Grandma made.... the chicken was very good.... seasoned nice... I ended up taking some chicken, potato salad, and coleslaw home... my friend got meatloaf and wow, it was a big piece of meatloaf.. she said it was very good... they have tempting desserts in a front refrigerated case... Place has gone downhill, way far downhill. Place has that outdated, dirty hotel feeling immediately upon entering and dirty floors, ceiling and walls just confirm the feelings. I've always liked Curley's...from back when there was one in Ithaca. I usually only get the 1/2 chicken dinner with cabbage salad and fries with gravy. Never really experienced any problems at Curley's. Food is always good, and the service is OK too. read more
