The wings are fantastic! The Dublin Dandy is delicious. My husband and I split both and love!!

Hot wings so good I forgot to take a picture ‍ So my date also joked about getting a salad and I said yanno that's a FANTASTIC idea because crispy cool romaine sounded so refreshing and their Cobb had avocado(!!!) so we got hot wings, salad, and tall glasses of Stella. He taught me a cool pairing: Stella with an orange wedge. I also liked the atmosphere of the place. Classy diner feel, good for a variety of occasions. Service was quick, too. read more

Bernie Murray's - Cobb salad (leftovers) - Chicken Wings Near Me - Elmira, New York

Soup and salad and breadsticks were delicious. Another person got eggplant Parmesan dinner and said it was very good. Another guest got chicken Parmesan so it was very good. No complaints. Service was excellent. read more

No pasta, limited menu the wings are great but only the fish fry would bring me back!

We have gone here a few times. The food is good some nights; not great others. Same for the service. It's never been terrible so we keep going back. It's also a bar-ish place. Not sure it's popular for that either. It's just a ok place. You probably won't leave going it's the best but you probably won't leave annoyed by the experience. read more

Hours that they open are from 5pm to 8pm on week days. No longer accept Mastercard or Visa. We walked in 20 minutes after they opened. Bartender said, "Sit anywhere, and I'll have the waitress be right over."....walked in the dining room. It was empty except for a round table of 6 women....10 minutes later, no waitress, no menus, we left. The table of ladies that was there before us didn't have drinks, the Bartender was still having his conversation with the gentleman at the bar. This used to be one of the best places in town to eat....guess times have changed. read more

As a Christmas tradition, my friend and I typically go for dinner at Bernie Murray's. True to that tradition we went this evening. I've been going to this place for over 30 years. I ordered to go meals for my family and ordered French fries with the sandwich. The menu stated it comes with fries and I confirmed with the waitress that I wanted fries when I ordered. When I got home and realized they forgot my fries, I called. I was not being rude I was being honest that my family didn't get the fries I ordered and I thought they might make it right. The bartender was courteous enough at first explaining that fries do not come with togo orders. When I explained that I asked for fries when I placed the order he kept repeating they don't come with to go. So I asked to speak with the owner. The owner was rude and unaccommodating and told me even though I ordered fries, I don't get them. Was yelling at me over the phone. His quick disregard and disrespect towards me tells me he responds this way quite often. I did get upset on the phone after I was dismissed and disrespected and hung up. In the words of my Italian grandmother when someone treated her poorly... I will never go back there again! In a few short minutes Joe was able to undo a Christmas tradition over the cost of an order of fries. read more

warning... do not purchase gift certificates from this business. the owner does not honor them. tried to use one my wife received from her employer and he told the waitress that it was no good. there was no experation date on the certificate. other than that, food is good. only one waitress because the owner is such a jerk to his employees that they do not stay' place needs a new owner. read more

Not satisfied at all, Place was very loud. We ordered Mild wings and Mozzarella sticks, wings were ok, and the mozzarella sticks were burned/smelled burned, and over cooked. Maybe they need to change their fryer oil or not cook them as long. Sent them back, got our check and they still had the burnt mozzarella sticks on the bill. Went to pay, no one was at the bar. Waited for couple minutes, told the worker about the burnt food that we sent back, he said that will be $20. I waited for change since the wings were $17 and change, the guy put the twenty in the cash register and walked away. Overall experience was bad and not going back at all. read more

This is an Elmira staple! I say this confidently because I grew up playing basketball Across the street. The parents would jump at the chance to drive to those games and practices because Bernie Murray's was across the street! They had the BEST Chicken wings, sandwiches, and burgers. Well guess what? I went there tonight for the first time in over 20 years.... Just as good, and nicer and cleaner. All the history of the family and old Murphy's Law posters still there. Same family workers, same great atmosphere, same great food! It had been too long since I had been there, but I will be back soon!!!! read more

This restaurant came recommended by a local, so we decided to try it out. For starters, they do not have their own parking lot, so you need to find street parking. The restaurant itself is fairly large, with a good selection of seating. Menu is basic, burgers, wings, and a good selection of sandwiches which of course includes plenty of options with corned beef. Burgers do not come with any sides, so my daughter ordered fries. You get a large bowl of fries, enough for three of us at the table. The wings were crispy, and one order comes with at least 15 or more wings. Medium was great, but still burned the lips some. Two minor cautions for this place - first, they don't give free drink refills. Seriously? In this day and age? And on that note, they also do not take credit cards - cash only. For locals that might not be a big deal but for vacationers it makes a difference. A burger, fries, wings, and a sandwich with three pepsi's ran $36 before tip. Overall I thought it was a good dinner, but dinged them a star for no refills and no credit. read more

Always had a great reputation for wings and burgers. Last visit the burger wasn't the char broiled big Barney, it was a pre shaped (like Mac fast food) type of patty! The Rueben wasn't the same either. The meat was not pink but a brownish color. You know, on the verge. Have given this place a couple of chances. No more! read more

Having grown up in the area, there is NEVER a visit back home that doesn't include wings. After all, the restaurants a mere 2.5 hours from where the chicken wing had it's birth - Buffalo, NY. Anyway, I digress...on my most recent upstate venture, I found myself satisfying my wing craving at Bernie's. It was after 8pm, so the restaurant was quiet, though the bar was seeing some lively activity. My four-year niece was dining at my table, and our waitress couldn't have been any kinder or more attentive to her - how you deal with kids ranks high in my book. There was a flurry of orders around the table, but I settled on their wings - one order is $7.99 and comes in mild, medium or hot. I got the medium b/c i want to enjoy my food, not have my tongue burned off. When the bowl of wings came, I almost fell over...there had to be at least 15-20 wings in there...I came nowhere near finishing them! They were delicious and served with a nice helping of bleu cheese and celery...just the way it was when they were invented at the Hangar bar. Whether it's Bernie Murray's or not, make sure you get wings in upstate. Other great locales in Elmira area are the Elbow Room and Legends Bar. Finger licking tastiness! read more

Visited Bernie Murray's with my son for dinner recently. It is a casual, Pub style atmosphere. Food: the menu has a nice variety of bar/pub style foods: wings, burgers, sandwiches, salads...etc. My son is a huge wing fan, so he ordered the hot wings and was not disappointed. He put them on his "Top 3 local favorite wing places". I ordered the Chef Salad which filled the plate and was very good. Service: there is seating in the dining room, but we chose to sit at a booth in the bar area which was roomy and comfortable. We were waited on table side by the bartender - he was quiet, but very pleasant and did a good job. Helpful tip: I did not know they didn't take credit cards until I tried to pay the bill with one. It is almost unheard of in this day and age not to accept credit cards, so I was a bit thrown off by that. It should be posted boldly and loudly so people are aware of it before they place their food orders. Thank goodness I had enough cash to pay the bill and leave a tip. When I mentioned this to the bartender/waiter, he said there was an ATM machine in the restaurant for customer use. Soo.... a 4 star rating due to inconvenience/no obvious notice that this is a cash-only establishment, and for lack of parking (not parking area, on-street only and very few spaces). read more

Always great food and service Bring cash they don't accept cards And god forbid you like to drink water they will only serve it in a small glass we got lucky our waitress left us with a pitcher Other than that great atmosphere nice and clean I will continue to eat there read more

Blah fish fry, time to change the oil! Fries were over cooked. Loud rude regulars at the bar being obnoxious.Poor parking. Server was nice, didn't get his name. Couldn't have a conversation at the table because of the noise. read more

Our server was great. She gets five stars. Especially since she was the only server and was busing and cleaning tables as well. Food was good. The reason for three stars? They don't give you free refills. Granted our server asked if we would like a refill to which of course we answered yes. However, she did not inform us that we would be charged. I'm sure that she is instructed not to unless asked. I understand that this is not a chain restaurant and I get that these small businesses are struggling but so is everyone. It cost us $15 for five cokes 3/4 of the way filled with ice. That's just bad business. On the other hand the wings were delicious. Too bad I do t like to drink water with my wings. read more

Really? I mean really. I get a chicken Caesar salad and it comes out with iceberg lettuce. I asked the waitress about that she said that's how we make a Caesar salad's. When they burned down they should've stayed down but look at the clientele in the area. Would they really know what was ?? read more

I've been going to Bernie Murry's for over 25 years, however it is always because someone else in the group wants to go there. If I was grading based on the food alone I'd go 4 or 5 stars, but it's not always about the food. The service is terrible and the beer selection equally bad. You will wait, and wait and wait on many many nights. They are always understaffed. I can't tell you how many nights I've been there just hoping for a refill on the beer that seldom comes before the food is finally served. Because of the slow service, I'm not sure how anyone can consider this a kid friendly restaurant. Wait until their bigger. An Irish pub and all you have on tap is Mich and Mich light, that was the case for years, they may be up to a third variety on tap Amber Bock. The bottled selection is not much better. If you're not in a hurry and don't care about service or a good selection of beer then you can't go wrong, the food is delicious. read more

The food is exactly what you would expect to get. There are no signature dishes or anything they have you couldn't get somewhere else. The service and bar tending is very unwelcoming. They offer no conversation and never seem to smile. The atmosphere is dim and boring. The one good thing is they give you way too much food for the price. read more

I really enjoy the burgers and wings. Pretty standard bar/pub food. We bring my infant daughter and the waitresses are always very pleasant but we have also received the this isn't a family place vibe walking in. There are only 2 highchairs, no changing station and no kids menu. We have had a few visits where the wait is long or it may take a bit to get another drink/napkins etc. This is cash only or you can use their ATM machine (there is a fee). Refills on drinks are not free and roughly $3 per softdrink. New menu does not have any descriptions. read more

Bernie Murray's - When the burger is so big you have to cut it in 1/2 to pick it up! - Chicken Wings Near Me - Elmira, New York

Really excellent wings and the roasted turkey, I believe was fall off the bone good. Good service and decent restaurant in the area...

There service has gone down hill after the they reopened food was not good and even more expensive for what you get. It's to bad because I've been going there all of my life. Never again. read more

Very poor service and the owner is rude. Might be better if he just stayed out back.

Having grown up about 45 min south of Elmira in PA we made a lot of trips to the mall in Elmira. Many of these trips included stops at Bernie Murrays to eat or pick up wings to bring home. Though I'm not sure, I believe the first chicken wing's I ever had were from here. Recently, after spending the day wine tasting, we stopped in for dinner. While the restaurant was kinda quiet for a saturday night around dinner time, the food was great. The burgers and sandwiches we ordered were all well prepared. I was also very happy to find out the wings were still as good as I remembered them having not had them for several years. read more

Service sucks and wings are soggy. Potato skins were so burnt they were not edible. Save your money and don't bother eating at this place!

Went there as a suggestion from a friend who is local. As soon as we walked in the door the staff could not be more inviting and accommodating. We promptly ordered drinks and were told the kitchen wasn't quite yet open yet but we could place an order. We got an appetizer, wings, a sandwich and also a spaghetti and meatball platter. It was all very good and the portion size of the spaghetti platter was enough to feed a family. We stopped on our way to a hockey game and will certainly try it again next time we are in town for another Jackals game. read more

We were visiting family and looking for something not pizza. Stopped and asked a Guy at a gas station and he sent us here. And omg the food was very good, sandwiches say over stuffed and actually are and the portions in general are over sized. Staff was friendly and the place has character. It however is a little pricey. We will be back even so. read more

Ok food. Been getting wings there for years and they are good but are getting very expensive compared to other establishments. One of the biggest negatives of ea ting there which is a big pet peeve of mine and I only find this in Elmira establishments is that tHey do not except credit or debit cards. Sure they have a ATM on the premises which has fees to use. Why pass this expense on to your customers. It's 2019. Get with the times. Most people I know use credit or debit. I realize it costs to except them but it should be considered a operating expense for the business. Why push it on to your customers? read more

In town on business and stopped in on my way to another establishment just because it looked like a decent place. I had what could be described as the perfect Rueben. It was piled high with tender corned beef and just the right amount of sauerkraut, cheese & Russian dressing on pumpernickel. The french fries that came with it were also good but it didn't matter. It was pretty much the perfect sandwich! The place was well kept and clean with a smattering of friendly locals for a Monday night. The bartender couldn't have been a nicer guy if he tried to be. All in all it was just a very pleasurable experience. Restaurants that survive only taking cash are almost always worth while! read more

Good chicken wings, what they are known for -- nothing else. I've lived a few blocks from the place and never got anything else from there.

Visited last night with my wife, in- laws and some of their high school friends. Service was average but friendly. Food came in large portions. Everyone but myself ordered wings. I ordered the Cajun style chicken Caesar salad which wasn't but unless you really like rabbit food. When boxing up the leftover salad my wife found a collection of what appeared to be mold, lettuce and hair in the salad. Left over salad stayed. Most annoying part of whole visit was that this is a cash only business, no sign anywhere on entering. Next annoying thing is that in this day and age the business days not have any way to run a credit card. I was informed that there was an ATM on premises, which happened to be out of order. Makes you wonder how many non local people have just left without paying due to this fact alone. All of this after reopening from a fire on premises. read more

Food is mediocre and the owner and staff couldn't be any more miserable. Would rather flush my money down the toilet than spend it here.

I have visited this establishment for over 15yrs for the best chicken wings around. Tonight I call and order dozen plain wings and mild sauce on the side, I placed the order with the manager and owner hes Was Very RUDE and said they don't serve wings that way. Needless to say I was very diss appointed. The owner even went as far as to refer me to pudgies pizza down the street.. My review is of the owner.. GROW UP. read more

I'm sorry to say, but not good at all. Potato skins were decent, but come on a potato covered in cheese and bacon is always good. The saddest salads I've ever seen, with kind gray chicken on it. Plus the bar is poorly stocked - bartender didn't know how to make a tom collins (what?) and they didn't have any sour mix. Our bill came to an embarrassingly high amount considering it was a couple bad salads and some drinks. The very high bill was because we apparently ordered top shelf drinks. I do not find it fair to pay $10-15 for a poorly made margarita just because they're not using rail tequila. No thank you. read more
