Satisfied with my services but the Web site needs some attention. There seems to be no way to check an upcoming appointment made and difficult to make an appointments as well. They don't answer the phone so you really have to try many times to successfully make an appointment . After leaving messages and email no call backs or response. My concern because I never received any confirmation prior. Arrived 10 min early and gestured receptionist Charlene E at desk to inquire if I had an appointment and she made it clear that she was bothered by getting off her seat and was rude . I've been going to Curl Evolution for some time now and I probably could deal with their website issues but after being treated as if I was a bother by confirming my appointment after driving 1 hr I am disappointed with the unconcerned attitude of desk. It's almost impossible to get an appointment here. I've booked two appointments here. The first one was cancelled because the stylist I booked with quit. The second one, that I booked months in advance, had to be cancelled (by me) because I received a text message that there was a "scheduling conflict" and they asked if I could reschedule for the same day but earlier in the afternoon. My appointment was for almost two months from now. You're telling me something couldn't be figured out between now and then? They show available appointment times on the website just to reschedule them because the time doesn't work for them anymore? It's so frustrating and not even worth it at this point. read more

So... I went into my first 'curly girl' salons hoping they could solve the follicular puzzle on top of my head. The associate came out, welcomed me, and made me feel at ease. I wanted my hair shorter, but she made less than a dozen snips, and called it done. She also offered me a highlighting package, which ( considering that this was the first salon visit since the beginning of the covid lockdown ) I considered, and said 'Sure', with the proviso that the highlights were to be dark honey blond. The end result was... Madonna 'Cherish' video blond, but I am sure she did her best. The highlighted parts were clearly fried, and I cut my hair short within a month to be rid of the weird, gummy ends that are characteristic of overbleaching. She then leaned into the Upsell part of the performance, but was graceful when I refused. I just wanted to leave. The cashier girls were deeply persnickety and eye-rolly about a part cash/part cc payment (the salon was not busy), making me never wish to see this place again. Makes me want to commit self-bowl-cut for the remainder of my life, rather than deal with...all that. An expensive regret, to say the least. Just say No. read more

I just had my first appointment since February and my hair needed it! I was nervous about going given everything that has been going on, but they've done an incredible job ensuring everyone's safety. I was beyond impressed with the measures they have taken and they have in no way impacted the quality of service! Kelsey is the best stylist I've ever been to. My isolation hair was limp and blah and she managed to bring back my big curls and all of my volume without making my hair look as though she took off a lot of length. I have been going to this salon for over 6 years. I was a regular for hair cuts only. My hair stylist was nice and reliable. When you had to schedule all appointments online that is when the salon felt cold and out of touch. If you had a quick question, too bad, that had to be in text and you were lucky if you got a response. So to prevent not having an appointment, I booked a year of appointments in advance. A week before my flight to visit my family for the holidays I texted the salon to confirm the time of my appointment and stylist name. They texted back, yes you are correct. I received no further texts from the salon, so I thought I was set. When I showed up for my appointment the owner told me my appointment was with another stylist. Just like another reviewer, I received no sorry for the inconvenience...or we will make it up to you. Instead I was blamed for the mix up. Plus, I had to ask her if there were any other available openings in the next week. When a personal service takes all human contact out of making appointments this can happen. I was in shock with the owners lack of professionalism. Now I know why she's rarely at the salon because she is clueless. In fact I didn't know it was the owner, until she told me. I assumed she was an inexperienced new employee. After a few words, I was told not to come back. Thank you that was a wonderful gift. I've gotten my haircut a few times from Amanda and of course she did a wonderful job. I decided during the pandemic to let my curly, kinky, dry, freezy hair, lol, grow in gray. I hated it but did not want to start dying my hair once again back to brown. Went to the best of NY salons, ie. Ouidad, Christo Fifth, Devacurl, etc. Went from silver to placing brown lowlights, everyone was wrong until Amanda took over. Being a woman who always wanted straight hair, whatever color and process Amanda did I loveeeeee it. I feel confident and beautiful and want to thank her from the bottom of my heart. I had my first cut with Jenna yesterday and she was awesome! She really took the time to figure out what I wanted and what would fit with my routine, style, etc. She explained different drying techniques and gave me lots of other tips. She recommend a bunch of products to me, but was not pushy about it at all. I left feeling very confident! I'm super sad to write this review. I wanted to enjoy my experience. Granted -- I was 15 mins late. It was completely impossible to park and there was a line to get a spot in their lot. I offered to reschedule because I totally understood, but they assured me it was no problem -- I would just have to skip the deep conditioning treatment. Cool! That was totally fine. My stylist did still seem SUPER rushed though. She didn't help me learn about my curl pattern and she rushed through our entire experience. I left extremely disappointed. My hair looked oily and flat and it was still wet underneath. I ended up buying a hair tie because I was too embarrassed to leave the salon with my hair the way it was. Honestly? I booked this service to help me feel good about myself and I left feeling HORRIBLE. I'm really sad about it. I won't be back. read more

The women that work the front desk are nasty ! I missed an appointment Due to a medical emergency. The front desk called me and didn't even ask me if I was ok but proceeded to talk down to me like I'm a child over missing my appointment. I get it - ts a big deal , but i didn't miss intentionally . Since I had a seizure I didn't quite had my faculties about me and she went on and on about it. Being that this wasn't the first time she spoke down to me - I figured it had more to do with the fact that I'm Hispanic because I didn't see her treating anyone else like that nor did I say or do anything warranting that sorta of behavior. Although I haven't been here in awhile I have to give it a five star review. I moved to Brooklyn and was hoping to keep up with appointments with Melissa but unfortunately due my schedule wasn't able to make the trip. After being to many different salons in Brooklyn I appreciate Melissa even more. She did great color, cuts, and overall styling. She also goes above and beyond by styling when she technically doesn't have to. Other salons I have been to don't bother with styling after color but Melissa did! I chose this place because they were supposed to specialize in Pintura highlights & we're listed on Devachan with certified colorist. Reception booked me with Angela, since Gracia (orginial choice) relocated to California. Angela was nice & may be good at hair health, but the shop should be honest & not recommend her for highlights. Long story short, once I got home & it fully dried, mines look nothing like pintura & turned into that BAD stripe job you hope doesn't happen to you. Not a natural look or blending. I even showed a few pictures for the effect I was going for (looks nothing like the pics I showed) & this is what I got (a full head by the way). Edit: The business replied to my review and told me you can apply missed coupons to your next visit. Ummmm don't know 'bout you, but this bumps them up to 5 stars! That is what I call customer service! (Also, since writing the initial review earlier, I've gotten numerous compliments about how defined my curls are and I referred a few coworkers to Curl Evolution already and hope they go!) I have battled with finding a salon that can expertly cut and style my curly, thick, and oftentimes, unruly hair. I had been eyeing this salon as well as another curly-centric salon on Long Island, as well as two different salons in Brooklyn. My final decision came down to a few factors: 1. Online booking availability - I was able to easily book an appointment on their website for the same week I wanted a haircut. The two Brooklyn salons were by phone only (and it's hard to get a break at work to make a call for an appointment). The other salon in question had no convenient appointment times for me until well into mid-June. 2. Options to book with Junior Stylists - I don't make a whole lot of cash, so a $120 haircut is a bit steep for me. However, if you book with a junior stylist, you get a fairly significant discount. My stylist was Ashley, btw. My only regret was I completely forgot to ask at the front desk about another thing that allured me .... 3. You get $10 off for checking in on Yelp. Which I did check in. And had the deal saved on my phone. But I was actually involved in conversation about future bookings and coupons and my new microfiber towel, that I completely forgot to ask the lovely front desk receptionist if I could use it. Dang. As for the haircut itself - not a whole lot of cutting actually happened. I'm in the process of growing it out, so this was more about shaping and defining my hair. It'll take a little while to get used to the shorter sides (we tapered the sides and back), but I was very intrigued by how she styled my hair and what products she used. In fact, it's the first time I'm actually considering purchasing some of the products used on my hair - and they do not push any purchase of products in-store at all, which was refreshing. My hope, as with ANY haircut, is that my hair will look the same or near to the same when I wash and style it on my own. For now, I look forward to my maintenance cut in 8 weeks (which is way cheaper after your initial visit, as long as you go within 6 months of your first curly cut). read more

I don't get my hair done there but I use the products and they are great!! I have very curly/frizzy hair and their products help with the frizz a lot! The staff is always friendly when I go in to buy products the only thing I will say is in 1 year the products that I use have gone up 30% in price and the containers are smaller. Seems like every time I go the price is hiked up another 2$ while the container shrinks. It says 8fl oz but I don't see how that's possible when the container has gotten smaller and smaller. But, I do understand that this is likely due to the crazy inflation. Either way, the products are great so I've been dealing with the hikes but unfortunately, I will need to find something else if it continues. read more

I am still stunned at how poorly I was treated, how bad my hair looks (really bad, like I can't look in the mirror without crying bad) uneven all over, different lengths on one side, this cut, from an "expert". How much it cost (250.00) plus product (28.00) and tips (70.00) to have what I asked for completely ignored? When finished, I couldn't believe what I saw. During my appointment, I showed her pictures of my hair in the style and length I wanted, I let her know that I wanted my bangs and face frame blown, air dry the rest, but there was an agenda here, a "way" that was not going to be changed. So many must-have, must-buy, products (nerf ball amount of mouse and more than a completely covered and dripping hand of gel) that three washes later, I can still smell them in my hair. I am stunned at the way I was treated and embarrassed that I let it happen. On the way out, I let her know, again, that I would never wear my hair this way, it had no shine and looked like I just got out of the shower (all of that product under a heat lamp and dryer, disgusting) and she said sorry, you have to get used to it. This was my first time here and I'd have to say, it was a very pleasant experience. I'm one of those that are very picky with my salons. It's rare that I will go to the same place twice. I have actually gone the hairstories in the Babylon village twice... But it's very hard to get an appt with them especially Bc their shop is so small. So I tried this place out. Boy am I glad I did. The people were all so nice. The shop is way bigger. Very clean and nicely decorated. I was worried Bc I have straight hair and many of the reviews are for curly hair but they assured me that I was in good hands. I did a touch up, glaze and cut/blow out. The color came out amazing and my stylist Kelsey listened to everything I had suggested and was able to get the cut I wanted. Solid!!! And the price was very reasonable. I paid $110 for everything. I would highly recommend this place regardless if your hair is curly or not. I am definitely coming back to round two (and hopefully more after) later. read more

I've gotten my hair cut here twice, from below the chest to collar bone length so a big chop and both times have been the best haircuts of my life honestly. Like when I left the salon I couldn't stop smiling, it looked so cute and I got so many compliments!! If you have curly hair, you have to go here ! Damn, I just got the best haircut ever. I left my old hair stylist because of irreconcilable differences, and I'm so glad I did. I met the owner of CE immediately, and she was in the midst of opening back up after a power outage. Even while dealing with this, she went above and beyond to make sure my appointment was honored despite delays in appointment times. Kelsey ultimately took care of me and my curls. She was everything I dream of in a stylist: warm, knowledgeable, and present. My hair looks great, I left with great curly-hair product, and I made a follow-up appointment ASAP. (I wish they could've seen how appreciative I was behind my mask.) I've spent my post-haircut time raving about my experience there, so I figured I'd come here and make it official. read more

Great first experience coming here ! I went to Jenna and she was awesome. So free spirited and kind. She taught me a lot about my hair and the best way to take care of it. They way she cut my hair was so cool. She had me flip over my head and do different things so she could cut it a certain way/angle. She gave me shape in my hair over all and brought my curls life again ! I loved how she recommended a bunch of products to me afterwards but no one pushed them on me at all. I used the $10 off promotion from here so it was $85 for the first cut. It includes wash, deep conditioning treatment, cut, and dry with product (left curly). From now on, they said it should be cheaper, I think about $50-$60. I will know for sure next time I go back in January and will update! read more

I have been going to Curl Evolution exclusively for years, but I will definitely not be going back. I had to schedule more than a month in advance, which I do understand with their Covid protocols. HOWEVER, within that month, I learned I had an aunt visiting from Idaho, and because getting an appointment was very difficult, I was unable to reschedule and had to keep this appointment despite having family I hadn't seen in years visiting. I would have accepted this, HOWEVER, after I arrived for a 1:30 appointment, and being seated in the chair, I was not seen by my stylist Ashley until 1:54pm. I expressed that I had family visiting from out of state and I was stressed about finishing my appointment in time, I asked how long the add-on treatment I scheduled would take, and I sensed she was annoyed by me looking at my watch. When she brought me to the sinks for my hair wash, she went to the back where I could tell she was whispering about me, this client who looked at her watch and was annoyed about her appointment starting 24 mins late. I felt SO UNCOMFORTABLE, I was stressed out my entire appointment about the staff thinking I was a "problem client". I was so upset, I can't afford to get my hair cut often, so I was looking forward to doing this for myself, however I felt so awkward the entire time, I couldn't wait to leave. Also, I hate how they charge more money if you have not been in 3 months. I don't know if I could even book an appointment within 3 months with their limited availability. I've been to places that specialize in just curly hair prior to this visit so I went in with confidence, but I will not be returning. I went in just for a wash and dry, and there were curly hair red flags. Brushed my hair when wet, didn't pin my hair at all before going under the dryer, and had the dryer blasting at full heat! My curls are flat, no volume, and there's so much gunk and product I feel disgusting and have to wash it tonight (something I was trying to avoid). I was left under the dryer for 40 mins and no one came over to check on me, I ended up turning it off myself before my hair fried. Yes I left before my appointment was technically done (I regret paying) but there's nothing that could have saved this. I was better off sucking it up and washing my hair in the sink and sitting with my handheld diffuser for an hour or so. read more

I've been coming to curl evolution for a curly cut for the past year and I always have a good experience. All the staff is friendly and courteous. I get an AMAZING head massage while they're washing my hair and they always offer coffee or water very kindly. I have to say my last visit left me especially happy! I made a bold choice to cut my waist length hair to a few inches below the collarbone. I wanted a change. I wanted my hair to have a little more movement and texture with just a touch of layers- I know! So specific! When they called to confirm the appointment my mom asked once again to confirm that it was $80 which again, they confirmed, but when she went to the store the day of her appointment, they didn't honor their statement and wanted her to pay the full $120 for just a cut despite their previous statements. I've been going here for a while and only return because theres no other options for curly hair on long island. However, none of the stylists here actually know what they're doing. First time i went here asked for a regular curly cut (nothing too drastic), all of my hair was chopped off into a circle and i cried for weeks. The left side of my hair reached my collar bones and the right side was somehow longer when wet. Kept giving them more chances, as i was hoping that it was just that stylist that didn't know what she was doing and its hard to find a salon that is familiar with my texture. Kept trying different stylists and was screwed over again and again. Got a bayalage and asked for a light caramel blonde, stylist somehow messed up and gave me a huge red streak in one of my money pieces and the rest of my hair had a horrible red tint. Had to come back the next day to see a different stylist and it needed to be rebleached to get the red out, damaging my hair tremendously. Every time I leave here I look worse from when I went in. Stylists are rude, constantly in a rush, and try to gaslight me although im the one whose had curly hair my whole life. Every experience is miserable because of their attitudes. They completely rush through appointments although they charge astronomical prices for a regular haircut. They either don't put enough product on at all and my hair is a frizzy mess or they put a disgusting amount on and my head is covered in gunk and feels gross to touch. One time i walked in with my hair unstyled since i was coming in for a cut and "curly set"and they literally looked at me like they were horrified, had no idea what to do. This salon seems like its good for people who don't actually have curly hair, maybe a slight wavy texture. But if you actually have curly hair do not be fooled by their marketing to your demographic. Go somewhere else and do not let them destroy your hair and take all of your money for horrible services time and time again like i did. Before I write this review, I just want to address the fact that I'm writing this strictly based on my experience - everyone is different, and some will have better experiences than others. I have extremely thick, frizzy, curly hair. I did not schedule this appointment expecting a magical transformation. And I certainly did not get that. I recently went here for the first time, for what they call their "First Visit Curly Cut". I was greeted as soon as I walked in by an extremely pleasant woman at the reception desk. I waited for about 5 minutes before I was seen for my appointment. My stylist was friendly, not too talkative though, and the young girl who washed my hair was extremely wonderful. While you're waiting under the dryer for a conditioning treatment, they offer you drinks and make sure you're doing okay which was great. A lot of places don't do that. The process doesn't take too long, the entire process for me (dry cut, wash, 15 minute deep conditioning treatment, and another treatment under the dryer) took about an hour and a half. Now, let me say again, you cannot go into this place expecting a complete transformation. That is not what you'll get. I find that for the first visit curly cut, it is more like a consultation. They put products in your hair to make the curls manageable, and then you'd have to purchase the products (which aren't too cheap) in order to keep your hair at the preferred style. I must say they do put a LOT of product in your hair, and they use something to sort of form a "casting" around your curls to keep them looking defined and shiny, and if the curls are scrunched, the cast will break and the product will be released into your curls. Overall, i did not have a terrible experience. The service was excellent and it is a beautiful salon. I just wish that i would have known that I was paying $95 for a haircut and to have products that I could have bought on my own put into my hair, only for it to last a few days. Maybe I should have done a little more research, but for me, I don't think I'll be returning to Curl Evolution. read more

I called to make an appointment for a maintenance cut because a cut is all I want but they said I can only get a welcome back cut since it's been so long, which is more expensive and includes a deep condition. I have been a Curl Evolution customer for well over a year and, lemme tell you, I never leave with anything less than a smile on my face. My usual stylist is Angela. First off, she's a doll. So super sweet and professional. When I first started seeing her, my curls were limp, stringy and lackluster. Well, she brought my hair back to life. She was super informative and gave me fantastic tips to getting my curls to their full potential. Today, I had the pleasure of working with Sophia for a trim and color. Well!!! My color is outstanding. She did a fantastic job of taking me from my summer sun-kissed blonde tips to a rich autumn-toned auburn. I absolutely love it. I went a few months ago but just got around to writing a review. I saw Sharon and Loved my cut! I am 32 and have NEVER left a hair cut happy. I'm always upset they cut too much and its never got any shape. I finally embraced my curls this year and stopped flat ironing EVERY week 2 hours for the last 15 years!
