I had my hair cut and styled by Jenny. She was extremely knowledgable and energetic. The salon was very busy and she was working with at least 3 clients while I was there, so she must be in high demand. The cut was great, although I wish there were some more layers. That is my personal preference and my own fault for not voicing. I also loved the styling tips, my curls have never looked better than the day I walked out of that salon. Jenny is a curl wizard. One of the other reviewers mentioned that she didn't like that her stylist used a gel and that her curls were crunchy- my tip to others would be to tell your stylist ahead of time that you like your curls soft. Jenny used a Moroccan Oil on me, and I liked it so much that I purchased it. My only complaint is the cost and it is the only thing that will keep me from coming more than 1x per year. read more

I really wanted to like this place but I'm giving it one star because my stylist totally ruined my hair. Going into my appointment my hair was long, which is how I like it. I had told my stylist (Amanda) that I liked my hair on the longer side but wanted my dead ends off. She showed me in the mirror where we planned to cut it and I was happy with it but she took off way more than expected. Not only that but she gave me layers when my hair is not the type of hair that does well with layers. Being that she is supposed to be a curly haired expert, you would assume that she would have known that. You would also assume that since I didnt ask for layers in the first place she wouldn't have done it without telling me or asking me if it's something I wanted. I ended up paying 180 dollars for a haircut that I spent the past two days crying over and products I felt like I needed to buy in order to make my hair look somewhat decent. This was the worst cut of my life. I told Kelsey what I wanted and what I did NOT want. I showed her photographs of myself and told her I was trying to go long. I am over 40 years old, so not a teenager complaining. My hair was almost to my shoulders - I walked out of there with a cut above my earlobes. It is difficult to manage .... I was in tears and they did not charge me for the cut. That was nice of them, however, you can't return a hair cut and I am stuck with exactly what I told her I did NOT want. Kelsey did not listen to me ... she barely glanced at my photos. Every ad they show is with very long curly hair...I should have known not to go there since my hair was not to my shoulders. I explained that my hair grows slowly and now, God only knows how long it will take me to get where I started. I came here under the impression that this salon specializes in all curly hair types (according to the website). Well, this turned out to be completely false. I walked inside with so much confidence in my 3b spiral curls and they all looked scared, I was confused. This was the first of SO MANY RED FLAGS!!! First off, the way people were looking at me was so uncomfortable, staff and customers. Secondly, I went to get my hair washed and the girl tangled and knotted my hair ( i know this because i detangled my hair before I went) and had no clue how to even wash it. They say they use special products depending on your unique hair which is false, they use the same shampoo and conditioner on everyone. She detangled my hair with a small tooth comb! YES, a small tooth COMB. She asked her coworker for help as if my hair was problematic which was also comical. It wasn't embarrassing for me because I'm aware and know that my hair is so beautiful and healthy and it's so sad that they aren't trained on how to do it. After I got my hair washed, The hair dresser (I believe her name is Melissa, I can be wrong. She has long dark hair) she began making ignorant comments about my curly hair and it just goes to show that she truly doesn't know a thing about actual curly hair. She says to me (as she's blowing out my hair straight) "Oh wow, your hair is actually longer than it looks." (Well DUH it's called shrinkage) or she'll say, "Oh wow your hair straightens easier than I thought it would." or "I thought this would take more time, I'm happy it didn't". I never in my life experienced a hair dresser surprised about HAIR. I was better off going to a Dominican hair salon for a blowout. The next red flag is, my hair is about 14 inches long and there website says that a blowout is minimum $30, and the website also says on wednesday's they give a 20% discount before 3 o'clock which my appointment fell in that time frame, They charged me $40 for a blowout !!!! This was so not worth it, DO NOT waste your time or money. Just go to a Dominican hair salon for a blow out and also learn how to take care of your own unique beautiful curls because they will mess it up. Im so happy my hair isn't damaged from the detangling of a comb and tugging and pulling and all the heat with no heat protectant from the blowout. If your hair is naturally straight or wavy and you're looking for fake curls this is the place for you because they specialize in turning straight hair wavy basically. read more

I really wanted to like this place and went in with an open mind but my hair did not receive the attention it needed. I have a lot of curly hair with a fine texture. It was very dry and brittle. I explained I wanted to keep the length but to cut everything that was dead off. I was okay if it went a little shorter bc I'd prefer to have a healthy curly cut rather than focus on style. The stylist literally picked a few strands of hair, cut the ends and then took me to the wash area. I was surprised that so little was cut after not having a hair cut for months. My hair was not washed thoroughly and then we went to styling. There was so much emphasis placed on styling and using a boat load of product rather than hair health. My hair was not healthy and I truly did not care about the styling aspect. I wanted to begin my journey to transforming my hair back to being healthy again. Long story short my hair was still dry, my dead ends were still there, and my hair was uneven. This was in May. I called and went back for a more even cut, which they were accommodating, and still even after that, I left with dead ends and uneven hair. I did do a smoothening treatment in July and asked so many questions prior to like will it damage my hair, is my hair healthy enough for this treatment, are there any side effects etc. I also said my hair needs to be cut more bc my ends are fried ... the stylist looked at me like I had ten heads. She did the treatment. Didn't know how to properly blow out my hair, I felt my stands pulling out of my head, and the treatment did not last the 3-4 months as told. I was not instructed to use a keratin shampoo just keep it sulfate and phthalate free. In the middle of my treatment she then says "we can do it wet cuts instead of curly cuts". I asked why and I did not get a definitive response. It was almost like constant run around. I didn't go there for wet cuts I went there for a curly cut. I have stylists that do my wet cuts. My hair has been shedding even more since the treatment. Long story short... 3 "hair cuts" no improvement with dead end removal and a lot of emphasis on style not hair health. I came there for hair health. Shortly there after I went to my regular salon in manhattan and my stylist commented on how dry & brittle my hair was and I needed a good cut. I finally got my cut and my hair actually feels good. I'm sure curl evolution works for some people but it did not work for me. Very disappointing. This was my first time going to this salon and the first time getting a dry haircut. The people that work there are wonderful and the salon is spotless, but I hate my haircut. I have very thick curly hair, my curl pattern is a 3B. I get my haircut the same way every time I go to a salon because I know what works for my curl pattern and the density of my hair. I typically get the back of my hair cut one length, and the front cut in long angles or long layers. I find that getting my haircut in this way prevents me from getting the dreaded hair triangle. Which anyone who has thick curly hair that tends to be dry and Frizzy knows all about. I explain this in detail when I sat down for my consultation, the products they use are awesome, they do put a lot of product in your hair but because my hair is so thick, frizzy and curly I tend to put a lot of product in myself. When I left my cut looked okay but I had concerns right away, how could they cut the hair evenly with it being dry? After going home and spending several weeks doing my hair myself I have to say I have ended up with the dreaded hair triangle my hair!! It is all one length. I also feel that some strands of hair were not cut at all. I am not happy with the cut, i have a bunch of curly hair around my face!!!! this will be my last time going to the salon. read more

This place is absolutely fantastic for those with curly hair (even fine curly haired girls like myself). I absolutely hate getting my haircut, my last hair cut was about 2 years prior. Always, even with a trim, too much would be cut. Or, the style just wouldn't look right when my hair dried naturally with my natural curls. So, I read some great reviews and gave this place a shot. So I tried it. I was in desperate need of a cut and really wanted someone who understood my curls without traveling into the city for a Deva cut. I did not really feel that I gained much from this very expensive cut and style. I did feel like the person helping me was rushing, especially since her next appointment arrived early. Truthfully, I have never had a Deva cut before, but I think the next time I will make the effort to go to the city. I did not feel wow-ed by my cut. It was simply OK. And for the amount of money spent on a first appointment, OK is not good enough for me. I am still having trouble trying to follow a routine that helps keep my curl - I just felt the stylist didn't arm me with enough information to get my curls right. I booked my first appointment and since then I've been back multiple times. I love it. Every staff member is so nice and helpful. I just got my hair cut and highlighted by Melissa and I absolutely LOVE it. I told her how I wanted it and she did exactly that. The color is perfect and the cut looks great. Best place to get a curly cut, period. Affordable, wonderful service, great staff, and extremely knowledgeable. I have gotten haircuts from both Erica and Jenna, but the whole staff seems extremely well-versed in everything from curly cuts to coloring. I have been going here for three or four years now and I am always pleased with my service and experience. I usually go for a simple haircut or trim, but just took advantage of their coloring service recently and could not be happier with the color and cut I received from Jenna. I'm literally so disappointed and honesty upset with my cut. Please realize this review is based solely on the way my hair turned out. The staff is extremely friendly and welcoming, but my stylist did not listen to anything I said about my cut. It is extremely difficult for me to grow my hair to a longer length I finally had it at such length and came in for a curly cut to achieve volume and trim a very small amount off the ends. The cut is done on dry hair which is fine, but as she was cutting it was difficult to tell how much was actually being taken off. After repeating several times that it was looking short and the stylist seeing the fear in my face she tried to reassure me that I had kept my length. She had to of cut 3+ inches. I prayed after she washed it it would look better. It kept getting worse. By the time she was done styling it I looked in the mirror to see a horrified twelve year old girl looking back. My hair had no style the cut wasn't even. The volume I had asked for was non existent. My hair is now shoulder length it somehow looks thinner than before except the bottom is a poof ball looking mess. It is all one length around. Not even framed around my face. The stylist was very friendly but did not know how to properly cut curls. I was in such awe by the time I left I didn't even have it in me to explain how much I hate the cut. I paid and left and will not ever be coming back. I'm sorry if this sounds harsh but it was my first and last experience at this salon and it will literally take years to get my hair back to the length it was. Stay clear. read more

I recently visited this salon and to be fair i will say that the customer service was excellent, my stylist was very sweet and professional however, she chopped all my hair off.. i specifically asked for volume and shape... i showed her picture of what i wanted.. i never told her to butcher my hair leaving me with no length. now i can barely get my hair in a pony tail.. when i left i had no volume and no shape.. i thought wow my hair looks short..maybe the curls will drop.. she chopped at least 3 inches off my head.. ive been depressed ever since .. i had to go to another salon and spend more money to get my hair cut all over again and even shorter because she did such a horrible job.. i would never go back to that place.. i absolutely do NOT recommend this place. Omg, first time in my 57 years that I went to a salon and felt comfortable, confident, and pampered in regards to my curls. After speaking with the lovely receptionist, Ashley on the phone, I made my appointment with the apprentice hairstylist, Kelsey. This newbie knew her stuff! I spent 2 hours there and every minute was productive. These apprentices are trained very well. They talk to you first about ask you how your curls lay. She really listened because I had some concerns due to my Trichotillomania. Kelsey DRY cut my hair first, ensuring all individual curls got addressed. Then she washed my hair with this great all in on shampoo/ conditioner which I ended up buying. Then, I received a complimentary hair mask and was put under the dryer for 15 minutes. While sitting there sipping my complimentary coffee, I noticed the array of beautiful women from all different cultures and their curls. I felt so at home. Kelsey then put a gel/cream in my new cut and blotted it dry with a microfiber towel while simultaneously instructing me on how to duplicate this process at home. We went back to her chair to dry with a diffuser. As she continued to work, I watched in amazement as my curls (and I'm not exaggerating and do not work for the company) started falling into place like I've never seen before! When she was done, she lightly sprayed my hair and presented me with a personal pamphlet on how to achieve the same look at home. The owner came over to ensure I was happy. You know that feeling when you look good, you want to reapply your makeup because you feel confident? Well. That's just what I did! I LOVED my haircut. But that's not even why I am writing my first ever yelp review. It's because the whole experience was the best salon visit I have ever had. It was my first time there and I am sold for life. From the minute I walked in everyone was so friendly. From the girl at the front desk, to the girl that washed my hair, all the way to Jenna that cut my hair... they were all so inviting and kind. Jenna was amazing with me! She really took the time to understand my curls and teach me about how to handle them (my whole life I have tried to hide them! Whether it be straightening them or just tying them back). I have never felt so welcome at a salon before, and have never had anyone take the time with me that I had today. I have paid more for a cut elsewhere than I did today and not love it anywhere near as much. That's the other thing...For the quality style you get it is super affordable!
