Walked past The Farmer's Daughter (the 'Sister' Shop to CC), and entered the store. The door had the classic bell, and I was greeted almost immediately. Through the seating area, I got to the counter. Though I had seen multiple menus online, there were some staples on it, and some that rotate in and out depending on the season or availability. Ordered the "Prime Suspect," sliced prime rib, melted cheddar, caramelized onion jam, arugula, pickles, and horseradish aioli on a toasted roll. Also ordered the Lobster Bisque, something told me they were gonna do it right. Soup was piping hot, creamy, chunky, and had piles of lobster. Wow. The sandwich was an absolute unit, and flavorful to boot. Momma ain't raise no quitter so you know I took it down, but it had me in the first half, not gonna lie. Staff said they've been open for a year and change, and I was just sad it took me this long to find it and give it a rip. Great atmosphere, unique items, creative items, and a great experience. I thought this place was super cute and quick with the food. I went with a friend cause we couldn't get into Farmers Daughter's and I realized they are connected so that immediately peaked my interest. The staff helped us choose 2 delish sandwiches as well as a burrata app special. The curds signature was delish the hot honey was a perfect addition. The bruschetta chicken was also excellent! Wish I took pictures of how lovely the ambiance is! Located in downtown Newton, the owner is the same person as The Farmer's Daughter. You walk in and are greeted with a lovely array of housewares pertaining to cheese that you can purchase. They have tables where you can eat some sandwiches and cheese and in the back is where the magical cheeses are stored. They had some samples out. What I like is the cheeses aren't super duper expensive and they have a nice assortment of blues, soft cheeses, etc. the woman behind the counter was lovely and passionate about cheese but patient with those who aren't "educated" in cheese. I bought a Peruvian pepper jam and we're loving it. I plan to return many times. read more

Saw the new inspiring menu and was excited to try some new things. Unfortunately, the preparation , quality of food and execution fell far from the mark. Ordered a $9 soup for "dining in" and it was served in a plastic deli container with plastic utensils. Tried the "fondue of the week" which unfortunately was tasteless and served with wilted carrots ( and you know how long carrots take to get soft and bendable) , apples with brown spots that were "particlely", some not fresh bread and celery. The celery was the only thing fresh but didn't go with fondue. Very sad... wanted to love this place but unfortunately there appears to be a lack of passion for culinary. Great little spot with big flavors!! I wish I had taken a photo. My husband and I went we both ordered the French onion soup (huge portion), I got the grilled cheese and he ordered the mortadella. We were discussing we would share. They asked "are you going to split your sandwiches?", and when they brought our plates they had already split the portion for each of us. It's those little things that make a place stand out for me. The sandwiches were delicious, and for sure we'll put this place on repeat!! read more

I am a cheese fan. I love cheese. Once I saw this place on a random Instagram ad, I had to try it. I dragged my boyfriend who was visiting from Texas to try it too. PLEASE try this place. Oh my goodness, words cannot begin to describe the happiness I felt when I bit into the best turkey & provolone sandwich ever. It had a basil pesto on it, and the bread was warm and everything about it just made me happy. A literal sandwich. That's all it was. A sandwich filled me with happiness (it's a pretty big sandwich--the portions are incredibly generous). I wasn't hungry after my meal and took the other half home but I'm definitely coming back because guess what C&C also has? CHEESE FLIGHTS! Cheese!! Flights!! You can get lil' cheeses to taste! And meats! This is the best idea ever. My boyfriend's favorite part of the shop was the honey that we could try straight from the comb. Neither of us have had honey straight from the comb before, and we were told it was locally sourced. Very tasty, and honestly, a really fun experience to try honey like that. Finally, the cheese orphans. As a former orphan myself, I relate to these cheeses. They are all looking for good homes and I implore everyone reading this to adopt a cheese. They're like 90c per slice, just buy one. It's your good deed for the day. In all seriousness, just go here. On a cold winter day, this place was amazing. Curd & cleaver is a wonderful addition to up and coming Newton! It is unlike anything we have in the area. They have amazing cheeses, butchered meats, Brook Hollow wines by the bottle, small and big "plates", gelato, and a thoughtfully curated array of gifts/accoutrement. I had the porchetta sandwich special and it was absolutely delicious. The service was wonderful - Kim offered helpful suggestions. I can see myself coming in for a cute charcuterie board, lunch with a friend (or solo with a book), and shopping for gifts. read more

Oh my goodness so much to choose from but my favorite are the marinated artichokes. You can't find marinated artichokes as good as the ones that they sell at the current cleaver. So many different cheeses so many different crackers they have, honey they have maple syrup you name it they have it. read more

The owners of the Farmer's Daughter restaurant, that we dined at last night, just opened a new cheese shop around the corner called Curd and Cleaver. We checked it out before dinner last night, and almost spent as much at the cheese shop that we did at dinner. We got to sample a lot of great cheeses, and ended up buying a Humboldt fog, an aptly named 4 alarm cheddar with ghost pepper, being one of the 4 spicy peppers, and a delicious cranberry blue cheese from a local farmer. We also bought a smoky salami, Nueskes applewood smoked beef sausage, Serrano ham, an excellent creamy Buffalo chicken mac n cheese, excellent orange citrus olives, a mini baguette, apricot, pistachio, and cranberry crackers, and caramelized onion jam. We were planning on just having a makeshift charcuterie board for dinner the next evening, but my wife had the brilliant idea of making a 3 part flatbread/pizza with the ingredients (on Stonefire thin crust pizza crust). The breakdown was: Humboldt fog cheese with Serrano ham, toasted almonds, fig jam and balsamic reduction; cranberry blue cheese with smoked beef salami, and caramelized onion jam; 4 alarm cheddar cheese with beef sausage and onion jam. We also had half of the Buffalo chicken mac n cheese. We can't wait to return next month when we make the one hour trip to dine at The Farmer's Daughter. read more
