A couple of months ago, I brought in an art piece to have the inside of the plexiglass cleaned. When I noticed months later that there were still visible marks that had been missed, I also realized that the plexiglass was no longer properly seated under the wood frame, the edge was now sticking out. This had never been an issue in the 20+ years the piece of art has been in this frame, including previous handling by other professionals. I brought the piece back and spoke with an employee named Mathew. He acknowledged that the piece had not been cleaned properly, but then attempted to blame me for the plexiglass shifting due to how I "might have handled it." He also claimed the plexiglass was cut too small for the frame, which makes no sense given the frame's long history without this problem, until Gallery Art took it apart and put it back together. Mathew initially tried to charge me $180 to re-clean the piece and realign the plexiglass, even though the issue was clearly caused by their work. I asked instead for the plexiglass to simply be replaced. After getting my piece back, I contacted the owner, Amy, to discuss the situation. She was extremely unprofessional from my initial call with her. When I called at 11:30 a.m., she told me she sleeps during the day and would not speak with me until after 7 p.m. When I finally did reach her and explained that I should not have been charged to fix their mistake, she dismissed my concerns entirely after multiple calls going back and forth with her on the situation. After spending over $700 with this business, she offered only a $90 credit and later followed up with a text to me stating... "Obviously, you agreed to the price when you dropped it off, you were not double billed." This completely missed the point of my complaint, which was about poor workmanship and accountability, not billing confusion. Overall, the lack of care, refusal to take responsibility, and unprofessional communication were unacceptable. I would not trust this company with any artwork, especially valuable or sentimental pieces.

I also want to encourage artists to believe in themselves enough that they do not need other galleries to see to their own success. Very few fine artists in the world enjoy wealth and notoriety. Yet, many are so talented and go unrecognized. We see the world through our own unique lenses. I honestly believe that these events that exhibit artwork PREY on artists. They PREY on galleries...and galleries such as Artblend pass on the costs to the artists. But if Michael's idea of resolution is to PAY MORE by offering me a discounted rate to exhibit my artwork in San Diego, that it NOT my idea of a resolution. By the way, he was a nice person in the beginning. I don't believe he is a customer service driven person. I actually liked your first lady dealing with me. After all email exchanges, he took over and definitely lacks the finesse of dealing with unhappy clients. Truth: The Gallery was NEGLIGENT in the care of my art. PICTURES ARE EVIDENCE OF DAMAGE. Instead, the goal is, in the words of its owner, "...to showcase and collaborate with emerging talent in the visual arts, film, music and performance art." The idea is to establish an understanding and appreciation of art in varied forms through exhibits, classes and community events. Tedds Art Works is housed in small undescriptive location along North Dixie Highway. However, once inside, one is immediately taken by the uniqueness of the displays, all of which are clearly as well as nicely described or labeled, and if there is anything or the quality of anything that is not quickly understood, the owner, Tedd, is right on hand and more than happy to provide any details. For example, on the day I was there, there was a display entitled "Assemblage of Heads" by resident artist Michael Jude Russo. Each depiction of a head was composed of discarded trash, the meaning of which to me was that with some imagination and artistic interpretation, even trash can be made into an innovative item of art and that trash itself can have an inherent beauty about it. There was also another display by a person from Centralia, Pennsylvania, which in many ways seemed to recount dreaded memories of his life that town, now except for a population that has dwindled from over a thousand to a mere six or seven people, mostly abandoned due to an inextinguishable underground coal fire that is expected to continue for a period of 950 years when its fuel will run out. As the displays are constantly changing and as local art is constantly evolving, you never know exactly what art or form of art you will be seeing when visiting Tedds Art Works; which to me is a good thing.
