This is a very nice library. It's clean and comfortable. They have family story hour on Saturdays and my LO was quite impressed. Their passport office is also a valuable resource! read more

I've been coming to this library before the remodel. Prior to the remodel, it was a much more cozy place... in that it wasn't organized too well, it was cramped. The cool thing was that it had a spiral walk way. Spiral walk ways are awesome. Okay, so after the remodel, we now have this gorgeous building, very clean, bright, and modern. The view from the windows are all fairly calming, especially with the beautiful weather that Cupertino gets most of the time. The sky is often blue, and the grass outside is often green. There are also these dancing water fountain things in front. The interior is designed with soft and calming colours. The ceiling is very high (Researcher Joan Meyers-Levy, author of the study and professor of marketing at the University of Minnesota, said that, "when people are in a room with a high ceiling, they activate the idea of freedom. In a low-ceilinged room, they activate more constrained, confined concepts.") There is also an abundance of natural light which is great. I'm here right now at the library at 10-11am on Tuesday, and it seems that the ceiling makes come crackling noises for no apparent reason. The bathrooms are clean, they have water fountains, many outlets at the tables. There is a huge variety of books, DVDs and music here. There is ample space and tables for studying or doing homework. For the most part, it's quiet. There is a teen section that can get a bit noisy after school. There is also a quiet room tucked away in the back of the second floor where its absolutely dead silent in there. Internet used to be a bit slow, but today, it's quite fast, and I haven't been here too recently. There are computers for use, but I don't use them, so I can't comment on what can or cannot be done on them. I also don't know if its free to print up to number of pages, but I'm sure that can be found on their website. They do have a large aquarium on the first floor (the children's section). You can get coffee next door, or some PMT across the street. Anyway, this library is clean, neat, and provides excellent resources. Make sure you check the hours before coming. It's not as straight forward as it might seem. read more

I went tj get a new library card . Huge location lots of dvds and books also self check out kiosk . Parking is a bit limited

Especially during COVID, the Cupertino Library has taken some fantastic measures to keep everyone safe. They've utilized their large open front courtyard as a waiting area and to keep their own staff safe, they've moved all of the librarians' desks to the window so that they can scan everyone's library cards through the glass. Additionally, they've set up a barrier of tables right outside the main entrance to prevent anyone from walking in. This also doubles up as a place for you to have your name called when your checked out matierals are ready for pick up. The system is surprisingly innovative and very safe. Because of the large courtyard, everyone is able to social distance without any issues -- even with little kids running around it's not difficult to create enough space between you and them. A lot of people have been utilizing the parking lot as well. When it's not super hot, I know there are still some students and employees who are sitting in the parking lot to use the public wifi that's available. I think the library has done a fantastic job with their set up and their new procedures and it's keeping people safe while still allowing people to check out materials for school, work, or just for fun. :) read more

Beautiful library, very clean, they have lots of children activities. The staff is very nice. Everything is so organized and easy to find. They did an amazing job during the pandemic as well. They made it easy to reserve and pick up materials. I loved how they offered book bundles for certain age groups. I was running out of books to check out and these bundles were a lifesaver read more

Wow! This library is amazing. Large. Spacious. Quiet. If I didn't live in Oakland, I'd be down here every week. I'm just faithful to good old Oakland Main (Oakland). Almost like a metropolis, the two-floor Cupertino Library has something for everyone, from an Aquarium for the toddlers to discussion rooms for the teens. I felt like I was shopping at the mall as I walked through the many aisles of books. I'd rather buy literature over linens--of course, the English teacher would say that. Great use of tax money!!! read more

This library is huge and there is a wide selection of books. However, there are insufficient desks for studying. There aren't enough librarians to provide the necessary assistance to clients. Thus, our students don't go there as often anymore to congregate for school projects. Returning books on only two conveyor belts is also very challenging and time sensitive. read more

I love this library so much! I like to look at the saltwater fish tank and explore the endless amounts of books available! There is something truly special about walking into a big library and smelling the fresh scent of books. I've loved reading since I was a child so it is quite nostalgic. The staff are all friendly and helpful. There is also a coffee shop right next door that sells an array of beverages as well as Mariannes ice cream for hot days. If you like exploring, you have the option of viewing the Cupertino Museum and having a picnic in the park after. read more

I really like Cupertino Library. It's spacious, having two stories. The aquarium is nice to see. They have an outdoor seating area within the library. They have a large variety of collections, including a teen section and children's section. The wifi works at a good speed. It's usually clean. They have many places to recharge your devices, even when you are using their computers. There's a cafe by the library, and there's a field in the back of the parking lot, where your kids can run and play before or after the trip to the library. They also have study rooms you can reserve ahead of time. read more

This library is conveniently located near Torre Avenue. Parking is difficult on weekends. There is a large selection of books for people of all ages. There's also a gorgeous aquarium inside with lots of different types of fish. The librarians are helpful, but the lines get quite long. Overall, this is a pretty good library; I've been going here since I was a kid. read more

Love the library and all of its programs - absolutely can't stand the massive cell tower that's on the library/city hall grounds. This doesn't make me want to take my kids to this library for any extended period of time. In the recent past, schools have removed these towers from their grounds based on a sudden spike in cancer cases and pediatric groups have also raised concern about the way that this technology is implemented. It's a bummer that the city is putting visitor health at risk in exchange for lease revenue from Verizon. read more

Awesome place to study. It is super clean and quiet here. I like coming here to read novels during free time or to dive into something technical. The study room on the first floor is my go-to place. There is a coffee place on the first floor to the right side of entrance and happy lemon and Starbucks just 0.5 miles from here. Conveniently located as there is a VTA stop close by too. read more

I've been coming to this library for years. Back in the day, it was honestly a piece of shit -- disorganized, dirty, long checkout lines, had to walk to the back of the building to return items after hours in the one return slot they had. Sometime in 2003ish, the old library was demolished and a new library was built. Compared to the old library, even after over ten years of being open, the new library is a breath of fresh air. Facts: * Wide selection of everything you'd find in any library: books, movies, TV shoes, CDs, magazines, etc * They no longer charge the $80 yearly library card renewal fee that they used to charge. * Lots of places to sit and read, study, etc. * However, a lot of the study rooms on the weekends will be very likely occupied with middle and high schoolers studying their @$$es off. I mean, it's Cupertino. What do you expect? * There's a big grass field at the back where you can hang out as well. The last main point that I need to make is that this library is crazy busy on the weekends. My advice is to just find what you want, check your items out and leave. This library is popular and for good reason. They get the job done. 4 stars read more

It's about time for me to write a review for Cupertino Library. I'm very conflicted because I practically grew up here and have borrowed countless numbers of books from this very building. That being said, I think the vibe of this library has changed dramatically since then. If you are thinking about coming to a library to sit, read, study or do work peacefully and quietly......do yourself a favor and don't come here. Unless you intend on coming between 10am to 2pm on a weekday when it's slightly quieter, you're better off looking for another library. At all other hours and especially on weekends, this place is really more like a zoo with books. There are a million kids and their parents and grandparents running up and down, in and out. The level of noise in this library has got to be the loudest of any libraries I've been in which is really saying something considering I almost live in libraries. It is way too crowded and I have a really difficult time understanding how anyone can sit and accomplish anything here. Even the quiet study room is pretty packed. On weekends, unless you arrive within the first 30 minutes of opening, good luck finding a place to sit without having to awkwardly squeeze yourself between two unknown people. There is so much random noise going on (paper shuffling, unzipping backpacks, people with annoying habits of kicking chairs or tapping their pencils unknowingly, cell phones & computers without the sound turned off etc etc) that's caused by the 30-40 people stuffed in the one quiet room that I have to wear earplugs in order to concentrate. It's actually quite frustrating when you're trying to seriously study. Still, lots of families spend their time here and I can't deny that it's a great place to be for kids. Not only are there plenty of books and a great requesting service, but the outside courtyard is adorable, especially the water fountains. As soon as the weather permits, you will see kids and even their parents playing in the water. (Let's just ignore the fact that the sound of shrieking kids playing outside can be heard from within the library, thereby compounding the level of noise inside....) In general, there's a lot going on at this library and it is always, always filled with people. Hence, three stars since this is either a good or bad thing depending on your purpose here. read more

The Cupertino library is wonderful on many levels the biggest downside are the many self indulgent patrons who really need a reality check. Pros: Great kids section - clean and very organized given the volume of kiddies running about with absolutely no supervision. Props to the staff If your kid has theme book reports they have a listing of books by grade with a brief synopsis for your child to look through! I can't tell you how many times this has saved me. Heads up 5th grade gets to do a book report on a poetry book in the CUSD. The fish tank is gorgeous The staff in the children area are awesome and very kind Nice days you can sit outside, grab a coffee from Coffee Society and read Self check out On-line book holds with no fees Lots of natural light Cons: Parking - too many people not paying attention. Yes I mean you in the Honda sedan who tried to cut off me off. Turn your head and look and to the woman who parks in the book drop parking then proceed to wander about inside. Trust me, walking a few extra feet would not do your sizable backside any harm . ICK- Please do not leave your dirty and nasty bare feet onthe chairs & tables. Fish tank - Parents its NOT cute to let your child bang on the fish tank . Too many children unsupervised, running and LOUD all over. Guess that's what happens when people breed friends instead of making them. Still all said, this could be a 5 star if it were not for the behaviors of many of the patrons. read more

Yup, I'm still peeved about the annual fee. Look, I live in SF, and I haven't used this library for over 20 years. So why am I so peeved about it? Well, I grew up here and I am pissed at politicians playing with budgets at the risk of America's future. Look, we already don't have any manufacturing powers, with a bunch of protection laws and red tape, our natural resources can't be touched unless we spend millions for lawyers to lobby something. The only thing we have left is intellectual property -- the minds of our next generation -- that is something we should all help develop and nourish. They have money for interior decoration, fancy (expensive) checkout systems, more DVDs than blockbuster, and a huge aquarium quality fish tank (for what?). But they don't have the money to support equality, education and literacy. What kind of "public" library is this? Mayor Gilbert Wong's reason for the $80 annual fee is to reduce traffic and clear up parking for local users. Well, here is my suggestion: if you charged $100 for all members, you can build a private heated swimming pool in the basement. Wouldn't that sound grand? I bet that would also reduce traffic and your parking lots will be even more spacious. The wifi, don't even get me started on that. Are we even in Silicon Valley? When Cupertino residents are being robbed, guess who they call? SJPD. I guess San Jose should charge Cupertino residence an extra $80 per call. Sounds fair to me. /sarcasm. read more

I wish the Cupertino Library had better hours, but I guess I shouldn't be complaining since the hours are better than they were a few years ago... At least they're open on Saturdays and Sundays now. Post-remodel (around 2005, I want to say), this library looks a lot fancier. It's two stories with a lovely aquarium on the first floor near the children's section. It always amuses me to see little kids running up to the tank shouting "I see Nemo! And Dory!" Adorbsies. The second floor is good for studying, provided you can find a table. They get taken rather quickly, so good luck finding a spot that doesn't have you sharing a table with some old creeper who smells bad. Each table has a bajillion outlets on/around it, which is nice. The teen section is also on the second floor, which depending on how you feel about teenagers who think they are too cool for you, can be a plus or minus. The self-checkout stations are easy to use and there's quite a few of them so lines generally move quickly. The Cupertino Library is really a NICE library. I love it, though I admit, I may be biased. (Check out the plaques for donors on the right-hand side when you walk in. MV FBLA 2005-2006!) I don't live in Cupertino anymore, but I still come here. tl;dr: My favorite Santa Clara County library. It's too bad that this library is closed now. My kids really enjoyed coming here. I need to return the old books and check out new ones. They should have more librarians to help out. The line to ask questions is usually very long. It takes a long time to get to the check out stand too. They need to get more DVD selection for the video section. The kids and adults alike are eager to browse their newest collections. It's hard to find a desk available for homework. Parking is very limited. The nice aspect is that the staff are quite friendly, when they are available. read more

Cupertino Library - Great selection of kids' books. - Libraries Near Me - Cupertino, California

This library is crowded and is hard to find parking. The librarians are nice and they try hard to helps find the books that we need for the kids. The tricky part is that there is always a line to wait to ask a question to someone. Many times, we have to wait for more than 15 minutes to get to the front desk. It would be nice if they had more librarians working there. We like how there is a wide selection of videos to rent. There are many movies for kids and adults from which to choose. The older kids like coming here to work on Projects together. It's just hard to find a good seat many times. read more

I used to love this library and would come here all the time until they started charging ~$80 per year. I understand that during the weekend this place gets full (as in all the seats are taken), and people crowd outside the glass doors before it opens in the morning... Yet, isn't this where tax money goes? I'm a resident from one of the cities inside Santa Clara County (from a neighboring city, actually)...and after all this is a county library. So ever since the fee I haven't returned. I can't use wifi or borrow a book. Which defeats the purpose of a library. Sadly. Meh. read more

I love this place. It's a great place to study, and most of the patrons are very polite about maintaining their indoor, library voices, at least upstairs. There are lots of desks to spread your stuff out on, and you can bring in drinks. The lighting is nice and there is also free wi-fi if you are a city resident. There is extensive parking too. The only thing that drives me kind of nuts is the loud roof tiling. It makes settling noises each time the slightest wind blows. The selection of books and media is extensive. And even if they do not have the specific book you are looking for, you can likely find it available at another location. You can put that book on hold and have it delivered to your home library. Then they send you an email notice when it is ready for pick up. read more

I find it amusing this place has a pretty fish tank. Has the amenities of computers, books, machine operated checkouts. So all those things are very helpful in my sense because they work themselves. When it comes to asking a librarian think twice. I once asked for a book in stock and silly me I just mixed up the names, but she said she knew the book I was talking about, yet she still couldn't pull up the specific book for me--duh because that's not the right title. Utter failure. As much as I appreciate the printing services, hello could the library be a little be wasteful. The printers they have have the capability to print double sides, yet it's disabled. Then one day I decided to save paper and manually insert my printed side back on the tray. Along comes this uptight grumpy librarian treating me like 5 year old specifically stating "these printers aren't for personal use." Hello I'm trying to save paper, I'm more than capable enough to know how a printer works. And she tell me to not open the trays. Fine. Somehow I think she had no clue as to what I was doing and I did explain to her I wanted to print BOTH sides. Everything is good if you're self servicing yourself; good luck with asking for help. read more

Cupe Library has come a long way since I was a kid, but there are still some improvements to be made! The library is beautiful, with the location being right by City Hall. However, it's basically just two stories with the entire bottom floor for kids/check-out/places that I don't really go. The top floor is where it's at, with the quiet study rooms, teen space, computers, and solo tables for studying. However, it's not enough room for the entire Cupertino city...which is known for being hella studious and totally absorbed in their study materials. It's clean and the staff are competent (although not too friendly--especially one of the librarians at the teen section desk), but there needs to be more sitting and studying space for all of the people that use it. I've come here multiple times, and every single time I've seen people sitting on the ground, stuffed in a corner reading or studying with their books on the carpet and their notepad on their bent knees. I know there isn't much space to expand anymore, but perhaps incorporate part of the space downstairs for more tables/desks? Just something to think about. Other than that...the wifi is free and there is a beautiful park right by the parking lot and lots of outdoor space to meander about. read more

UPDATE 2/2/08 This is a great library but since I've been a frequent patron since school started 2 1/2 years ago, I've been noticing a few things that have been bugging me a bit. I've always understood the library to be a quiet place where you keep your voices down. They do have a room that is supposed to be the "Quiet Study Room" which is where I retreat to. Outside the Quiet Study Room, the 2nd floor is alive with noise. There are groups who are loud, cell phones are ringing, etc. and I've seen the librarians do nothing about it except one. They should really be going into the Group Room where you're allowed to make as much noise you like. You can request books on their website which is fantastic and they'll notify you when they arrive by email but I have had a few instances where they did not email me that particular book had arrived so when you go to pick up your items, check for other materials that may be yours to pick up. _______________________________________________________ What a great library this place is! Two-story library, free WI-FI provided you have a library card. Comfortable, stylish, and sturdy furniture. There's a group study room with 3 large tables. Be advised that if 3 or more groups are meeting, the room can get unbearably loud. On the first floor, there's a children's section and magazine, music, VHS, DVD, and New Releases section. On their website, you can hold a book or other media material at one of the Santa Clara Valley Libraries. When you enter to the left, there are flyers and informational material advertising services and local events. To the right, there's a place where you can recycle old cell phones! Coffee Society is just right outside the library where you can get caffeinated. read more

Once upon a time, when I was a young girl, I used to go to the library every two weeks. I'd come back with a huge shoulder tote bulging with 15-20 novels that I was determined to plow through within the fortnight so that I could return them and leave with yet another sackful. I loved browsing the stacks of my library then, and coming here to the Cupertino Library reminds me of those happy days of being a bookworm. :-) Since I've signed up for a membership, I have made use of its numerous services including requesting certain titles to be held for me at the library for pick-up, self-service checkout stations throughout the library, self-renewal service online... Everything is easy and efficient. They've also got a great selection of best-sellers that I like to comb through on my visits. Good stuff! read more

While I love Cupertino library and its design, decor and atmosphere, I could never work or get anything done here. Weekends are packed beyond belief (good luck find a parking spot!) and even weekday evenings are pretty bad. If it's a school holiday, it's like Disneyland with a line outside before they even open! There's a handful of study rooms, but they're almost always taken. There's lots of tables and computers, but again, almost always taken. Outlets just about everywhere, so no worries about plugging in, and the wifi is decent. Even the tables outside are sometimes full. It gets a bit noisy and loud where most of the kids are, or if teens are working on something together, but there are quieter spots as well. Children's sections are downstairs, most adult books are upstairs on the second floor. Most notably, the aquarium and garden are beautiful. However, as a library, it really doesn't fit my needs for a study spot or a place to meet with others to get something done. Typically, I only drop by to pick up something I had on hold, or to return something. Their return box outside is also electronic, which will check in your items for you even if the library itself is not open. And their website indicates that if you return something before 8AM, it'll be marked as returned the previous day (so just in case you're a bit late!). Everything is basically self checkout these days (unless you're having some issues) and the holds area is inside, to your left, near all the checkout kiosks. Hopefully you can snag one of the 4 minute parking spots for a quick pickup/return. read more

This is a great library! I've been coming here since I've been in high school and it always makes me actually feel like working and studying. Review from a "studier" not a "library-book-borrower": Now, I know the incessant amount of Chinese fobs and their obnoxious kids really bring this place down in terms of its business: a public library, but it makes me feel at home :) I'm Taiwanese and the annoying-ness of Chinese people is inevitable, therefore, it's part of our culture. And to other cultures, I apologize, but we have never wanted to be more than ourselves (except the ones that love and praise white people aka anything American). I think it's also because I use to come here all the time as a kid with my parents and my tutor...it's hard to remember what it looked like before. I remember the adult floor went around in a circle, and the kids floor was in the basement, and the main room had a slight elevation...ah, childhood. This library has an ample amount of seating and natural light and smack dab right in the middle of Cupertino. During the week, you get a lot of parents and adults and some kids, but during the weeknights sometimes, and weekends, you get a mix of parents, adults, kids, and those damn high schoolers. The good thing is, the high schoolers can use that big room to "study" in, and the kids have the entire bottom floor to run around in. I wish they'd open earlier on Monday and Tuesdays, but I can't really complain, the employees need breaks too. One thing that bothers me, WHY does it sound like little elves are running around on top of the roof, or that construction is still going on above your head?! Scares me. Also, sometimes the AC is too strong if it's cold outside. I suggest bringing headphones and your laptop for the internet connection that is protected by only allowing users with library cards to use (but it's kind of slow). And, if you're hungry, I.S. Won Stew House has cheap snacks that's a hit or miss sometimes (that review to come later). Also, if you can't stand loud kids and Chinese people who take their shoes off (actually that's just plain gross), I don't recommend coming here. The fishtank is amazing too and that little hallway reminds me of an aquarium, though it's only like 10 feet long. read more

Parking is tight, but free. WiFi is free via county login. Building is an AT&T dead zone! Too many books and not enough study tables. You may have to wait or circle for space to open up. Pretty quiet place when kids are in school. As for me the Feng Shui is off. Main stairs connecting downstairs (kids) with upstairs is not showcased. The fish tank wall is nice, but needs a good cleaning. The tables are poorly designed so that one person easily takes a 2 table design. No massive open areas so it feels cramped and lonely. read more

Since February 2011 I've lived in Santa Clara and worked in Sunnyvale, and yet I often found myself going to this library because the County system seems to have a much better selection of books. Of course, due to the institution of an $80 annual fee for people like me, I won't be coming back. So why the four stars? Well, because while I appreciated the service while I got it, I recognize that people like me were exactly why they needed to make the change (and anecdotally, I know at least two people at work similarly affected). For one thing, while it's hard to grasp, if you don't live in a city with a county library, you don't actually live in the County Library District (or whatever it's called) and as such, you don't pay taxes to that district. Previously, the state compensated libraries for usage from out-of-district patrons, but of course that went out the window with every other decent thing we can no longer have thanks to the ongoing fiscapocalypse. So even though you may live in the county and feel entitled to the service, the name is a bit misleading, as you don't necessarily live in the jurisdiction of this library system if you live in San Jose, Mountain View, and so on. Unfortunately, this system was so good that it was becoming the victim of its own success. I'm sure it was nice for the "independent" city libraries to coast by knowing that the county system would pick up the slack, but those days are over, it seems. (That said, there's no excuse for what happened to the reviewer who was denied a card because her car registration was considered to be insufficient proof of residency. Come on now!) read more

Highlight of this Library, the HUGE aquarium! Bring your kiddos here and they will be mesmerized at the fish! The kids area is a little lacking, they have a table for trains and a few toys, but not as much to play with as some of the other libraries in the area. They have an outdoor patio where you can enjoy your snacks and drink on a warm day and there is a coffee shop right outside the front door. One huge downside is the parking, it can be very challenging to find a spot, even during the middle of the week. read more

Love this library! They just opened for Mondays. What I like about this library is that they have comfy seats to read while next to a huge window starting out at the sky or the people below. They need to hire more personnel to answer our questions. Many of the books that I need are also unavailable. Parking is difficult on the weekend. read more

Ah, Cupertino Library. Used to come here all the time in high school so any time I need to take my little sister here, walking through the library is definitely nostalgic. When I was my sister's age (12), Cupertino library definitely did not look the way it does now. Remodeled from several years ago, the library is huge with an aquarium against the wall inside, patios, water fountain in the front, and attached to a Barefoot Coffee Roasters (I think? Could be Peet's?) Really pretty library, without that old book smell you encounter at most other libraries. Good place to study. They have a quiet room upstairs. The place can get really noisy when kids are all over the place. So I recommend coming here during school hours when it is session. I did all my studying here for work training. This library is very clean and looks pretty inside and out. It's especially pretty if you look at it from the outside at night. There is an aquarium downstairs which I like looking at every time. I like studying here because of the good lighting, cleanliness, and big tables by the windows... but it's only good to study and read here at certain times of the day. After 3pm, a lot of high school students come to the teen section (which has cool furniture), and it gets pretty loud. It also becomes harder to find parking and seats after 3pm. I recommend coming before 3pm and sitting at tables away from the teen section... or if you really need to crack down on studying/reading, there is also a quiet room upstairs. read more
