I ended up at Cupcake Magic after a day of fruit picking. My friend wanted vegan cupcakes and heard Cupcake Magic made some bomb cupcakes and other tasty treats. We walk in and are greeted by an older couple who, I assume are the owners of this little cute establishment. The first thing I noticed is how visually beautiful the cupcakes and the many other desserts looked. I'm not into vegan cupcakes and asked if they offered non vegan options! Thanks goodness they do! I was eyeballing the Carrot cupcakes, however I do not like raisin in Carrot anything. Luckily, for me the owner doesn't put raisins in the Cupcake! I ordered 2 Carrot and 2 Red Velvet Cupcakes. The owner tells us her best selling cupcakes. I must have great taste. #1 is Red Velvet #2 is Snickerdoodle and #3 Carrot. Yum! I couldn't wait to get home to try them. The Red Velvet was damn good! That Carrot though... Sweet goodness, that was a very moist flavorful tasty treat and that cream cheese frosting is so creamy and not too sweet and the right texture. Purchased 25 total cupcakes for my daughter's birthday celebration. The work was so sloppy as if it was thrown together last minute. They were not neat and edges were all uneven. They were extremely heavy and beyond dense. The hope would be that they would at the very least just be neat and generic like the regular grocery store cupcakes. I addressed this with a manager at the store when I called and received a generic response that it may simply be my standards. I then text photos to him per request and did not get any response back at all. Both customer service AND quality is lacking. So disappointed. Would recommend just purchasing from a regular grocery store to help save money ($3/cupcake) and spare the disappointment. read more

The cupcakes: 3 out of 5. The cake part was oil heavy for my liking. But the intended flavor and icing was good. I had the orange creamsicle, coconut, and orange chocolate. Over a 2 day period ; ) Hours and communication 1 out of 5. I drove 30 minutes to the shop to get there during hours listed 9 on Yelp. Arrived an hour before "closing" to find they were already closed. There was no signage on the storefront listing adjusted hours of operation. So the next day I called after work at 5pm. No answer. The NEXT day (Thursday), I took a chance and cut out of work 15 mins early to get there before 5pm... and yes, caught them open, with only 6 cupcakes left. I purchased all 6. Asked about hours and got a loose answer that, if I recall correctly they're closed Monday and open at 8am and close when they run out of cupcakes. They recommended calling. I can understand, at the same time find this very frustrating. This is a lot of work to buy a cupcake. Best of luck! read more

This place sure stands up to its name! We came in here because we were in the area and wanted to check out some cupcakes and was so glad we did. As we walked in we were instantly greeted by a nice lady behind the counter with a big smile on her face. The first thing I noticed is there was only 1 customer sitting down inside and was automatically thinking twice about why he was the only customer here. I'm glad that didn't stop me from checking out a couple cupcakes to take back home and try. They had so many different kinds to choose from it took me a couple minutes to decide, not to mention they even make vegan cupcakes. Apparently their delicious too! After getting home and trying my first bite of the red velvet, I was in cup cake heaven! It was so moist and delicious all the way through. I received a dozen cupcakes from Cupcake Magic as a birthday gift from my parents, who live on the other side of the country. It was a complete surprise and I was out at the time, but the woman who called me politely asked a time that would be good to deliver the cupcakes. The man who dropped them off advised me that if I didn't finish them I could freeze them to preserve them better. He was extremely friendly, and my parents said that the staff was also very nice when they were placing the order, even making suggestions on which ones to get. The cupcakes themselves were delicious. The peanut butter, with rich peanut butter cake and a whole peanut butter cup baked in, sticks out in my my mind as a favorite. But the orange creamsicle and mocha flavored ones were also superb. The frosting is rich, but not sickeningly sweet and the cakes, as others have mentioned, are dense. None of the cupcakes were dry, as others have mentioned, but as days pass they do become somewhat drier. This is expected of any fresh baked food, though, as there are no preservatives. The solution is to eat them all or share them with others! Check them out! read more

The first time that I discovered that Yuba CIty had a little cupcake bakery, I must tell you, I was ecstatic! I have a thing for sweets, in general and cupcakes are as good as it gets. I mean, a portable cake, when a fork isn't (usually) needed? Hell ya! I know I sound like a total fatty but don't hate. When I accidentally came across Cupcake Magic, it was when we coming to dinner at Sopa Thai right next door, it was closed. :( But fear not, I made sure i went soon after. And boy, was I pleasantly surprised. Tami and Laurie (the mother and daughter team who own this little shop) are fantastic people. Tami is usually the one that I see, the few times I have visited; but she has been nothing but the sweetest lady. I have tried several of their cupcakes, including some of their seasonal/monthly specials, and I have yet to be disappointed. The cupcakes, yes are a bit heavier than your average cupcake but I have yet to have a dry cupcake like some previous reviewers have mentioned. Every time I go, it seems like the cupcakes just keep getting better. Tami comes up with such great flavor ideas. Also, they make MINI versions of many of the flavors (for $1-2) so you can try some of the flavors. The Pink Champagne started to be one of my favorites, I loved the addition of Pop Rocks sprinkled on top of the frosting, but as I've continued to try more flavors, I continue to change my favorite. The Black and White is a great traditional flavor, as is the Coconut. During the summer, they had a Banana Split flavor that tasted just like a banana split in cupcake form! I also thoroughly enjoyed the Peanut Butter & Jelly Flavor. All the fruit flavors are amazing as well, Lemon, Blackberry, Strawberry, Orange, Ginger Peach, Tropical Sunrise, you name it, it's great. The only 2 flavors that weren't MY personal favorites have been the Snickerdoodle (no frosting, which is my favorite part) and the Guinness with Stout frosting (But I don't really like Guinness, or Stout) lol. My favorite (right now) has to be the Chocolate Salted Caramel Cupcake. I mean come on, salted caramel with actual bits of Sea Salt throughout the cupcake and and frosting; they were like little crunchy gems. When I enjoy a cupcake, I personally like to twist off the bottom part and eat that first. and then enjoy the last little bit of cake with that mountain of deliciously rich frosting. And you know what, they twist off perfectly! Unlike that famous Sacramento-Roseville cupcake chain that everyone seems to love (*cough Icing On the Cupcake I'm talking about you *cough) the cupcakes do NOT crumble all over the place! Cupcake Magic not only sells cupcakes, they sell other yummy confections such as Chocolate Covered Bacon, both milk and dark; chocolated covered pretzel sticks, chocolate covered strawberries, cake pops, etc. I love Cupcake Magic and I only wish that they were closer, now that we no longer live in Yuba City read more

The owner took my order for 4 dozen cupcakes while on the phone. When I arrived to pick it up, the order was incorrect. I had ordered the small cupcakes and the cupcakes were large. When I told her I thought I shouldn't pay full price she offered to give me the old frozen mini cupcakes in her freezer for my party tonight. I've been coming to Cupcake magic for years.. haven't been in a couple years though. After reading the recent reviews, I was a little worried that the food had gone downhill. Not at all!! We went this morning and it was as good as I have always remembered! New owners seem really nice. I gave 4 stars because of a few things I noticed.. employees were using the inside tables to make chocolate covered treats and it left no seating for customers. :( And we came an hour after opening and they were still putting cupcakes out, personal opinion-it should be ready by opening. I can't believe I haven't written a review for this place yet. I've visited many times and have gotten excellent service and cupcakes each time. The owner is such a delight to talk to and does her best to accommodate your needs and wants. One visit I'd like to point out is when I came in for one of their giant cupcakes. I preordered it in their Oreo flavor. It was for my husband's homecoming. They told me they didn't have any decorations specifically for that occasion but would think of something. The thought that they were willing to make it extra special for me even when they didn't have the supplies was a very nice gesture that I welcomed gladly. Coming in to pick it up, I didn't know what to expect and kind of expected for them to say they didn't go through with anything. But lo and behold the words "Welcome Home" in chocolate delicately placed on the cupcake. It was perfect. I was more than satisfied with the whole process, their customer service, and the cupcake. My husband certainly enjoyed his favorite flavor in giant form as well. I've been dubious about cupcake shops since I decided to spend way too much on cupcakes from a Cupcake War "winner," which also happened to be the worst cupcakes of my life. These cupcakes, however, were the polar opposite! First and foremost, I was super excited to hear that none of the cupcakes had tree nuts. Wahoo! Music to the ears of this allergic girl. I opted for the carrot cake while my sons got the pb cup and the samoa. The carrot cake was moist and so tasty. The frosting was like a sweet cream cheese cloud, so light and airy! The pb cup was not nearly as sweet as expected which was so welcoming. The peanut butter wasn't too sweet and the frosting texture was that same airy mouth feel. The gooey caramel center of the chocolate cake samoa was really good, the perfect little surprise in that lovely cake. I informed my sons that this year for my birthday I would be foregoing my usual fruit basket cake in favor of these cupcakes. Delicious! read more

I used to come here all the time years ago. Last few times I've come over I've noticed that the lady who I would always see (I think she was the owner) is no longer around. I'm assuming there's new ownership? The cupcakes are now not as moist and taste stale. About an hour before closing apparently they were all out of cupcakes so I tried coming in as soon as they opened the following day and the guy there didn't even have any cupcakes out yet! He said they were barely finishing up baking them. Shouldn't there be some cupcakes available shortly after opening hours? This was my favorite bakery and I've given this place so many more tries but I'll stop going there, especially with this new ownership causing the quality and customer service to go downhill. read more

First of all, $4 per cupcake in Yuba City is unreasonable even if the quality and taste is good. I am pretty shocked about how highly rated this place is, although I noticed from the reviews that they have raised their prices pretty sharply over the years. It started at $2 then $3 and it has now reached $4. That comes out to nearly $50 for a dozen cupcakes! Paying that kind of money would be well and good if they were amazing, but unfortunately they are not. The cake tastes like flour and is dry. The frosting just doesn't have great flavor. For example, the peanut butter cupcake's frosting had no peanut butter taste; it just tasted like sugar. A few reviews mentioned that the atmosphere is nice. I was put off by all the printed-out signs everywhere: "Don't touch the glass", "Only one refill per cup", "No refunds". I will concede that they are very good at the esthetics of the cupcakes, if that's important to you (taste is priority #1 to me). I was kicking myself for not instead visiting one of the several excellent independent donut shops in Yuba City and getting a delicious snack while saving a lot of money. read more

My personal favorites are the Red Velvet, Carrot Cake, and the Black and White. The Black and White has a cheesecake-type goodness baked into the chocolate cupcake that makes it awesome. On my last visit there, my family and I tried the Peanut Butter cupcake that has a whole peanut butter cup baked into it, and the Orange Creamsicle. Both were very good, and very moist. When they first opened, the cupcakes were good. Now they are great. They also offer other items as well, like chocolate covered bacon, chocolate covered strawberries, and soft serve ice cream. I haven't tried these items yet because I end up falling victim to the enticing cupcakes begging me to take them home. The owner there is super nice and very welcoming, which makes the visit there that much better. To get the best selection, arrive a few hours (at least) before they close. I rarely write a review for a place I've never actually been to, BUT... a client brought these cupcakes into our office for a meeting. That red velvet cupcake was literally the best red velvet bite of heaven I've had in my whole life. Seriously. Everyone else commented on how excellent their little bites (in other flavors) were too. It was completely unanimous. Presentation was lovely, as all these pictures show. Pleasing a pastry snob like me is no small feat, so I had to come Yelp it!
