My kids loved it, the hubby loved it, I loved it. 5/5. The staff were friendly and the milk shakes were on point. Mine was spiked and it made me happy all day. That chicken sando though. Wow. Perfectly balanced with a carrot slaw and just a touch of chili oil to get a sizzle all held together with a decadent brioche bun. Voila! So delicious! I had a bite of hubby's burger and it was melt in your mouth awesome. I secretly love it when a restaurant has a small menu. I always hope it means they do a few things really well. Nonla lived up to all my expectations. Fast, but leisurely in the inviting diner atmosphere. The kids enjoyed asking me for $$ to play the games. Luckily, they were all winners. Hubby says this is his top 5 place and we will have to come back again soon! He also implored me to write an unequivocal 5 star review... a rare request from his mouth. Thanks Nonla!

The space is kind of smaller but we were able to sit right away. The theme of the place is kind of quirky - there are celebrity mug shots on the walls with descriptions of their crimes, as well as a "jail" photo op. Most of the menu items have jail/prison themed names too. It's definitely unique! I'd heard great things about the burgers so I knew I had to try one. They have nine different specialty burgers that come with two quarter pound patties, or you can substitute fried or grilled chicken for no charge. I got the Reveille (one egg cooked to order, bacon, and cheddar), and Nate got the Brushy Mountain with marinated chicken (you can also get it with fried chicken). Crinkle fries are standard, or you can get waffle fries or sweet potato fries for an up charge. Our food took a little bit of time to come out, but we enjoyed watching the MSU women's soccer game on the big TVs while we waited. The food was worth the wait, because it was super hot and fresh, and the burger was delicious. The patties were juicy and perfectly seasoned, the bacon was crispy, and the egg was cooked just like I wanted (over hard). It was a little greasy but I enjoy a greasy burger every once in awhile. I had a bite of the Brushy Mountain, which was also very good. The chicken was a little small but the flavors were great and the chicken wasn't overcooked. I'm so happy to have checked this place off my list, and will definitely be back the next time I'm in the area. If you like a juicy burger, you have to visit this place!

In fact, that's what I got, along with the chicken chimis app. It's a dressed-up version of a dive bar on the normal (i.e. not downtown) streets of Grand Rapids, with a good selection of beers on tap, but you have to go walk over to the wall to see those. The waitress' attitude was kinda familiar and divey. I could see this being a locals' place. Service was pretty quick, food was overall pretty good. Good dipping sauce for the chicken, the hot dog had a nice balance of ingredients nestled in the pretzel bun (I got the fully loaded one). Not a bad value overall. I guess... you can see from my review nothing stood out as 5 stars. Everything is good about the tavern, nothing bad to say, but nothing that props it above the rest. One man's opinion.
