When I first met Beth, I was a little skeptical of her techniques. Growing up, I always had very large, rambunctious Golden Retrievers who were treat trained. I always thought that they were very obedient but, as it turns out, they had zero respect for me and 100% respect for the treats in my hand. They were only well-behaved when I had a bag of cookies in my pocket and it's no wonder they ended up being overweight and ignorant as they got older! When my fiance and I adopted our reserve-rescue dog, CHS mandates that the dogs take the CHS training courses which are formed with the treat-training philosophy. Throughout the course, it became evident that Clyde wouldn't respond to treat-training, but he did respond to affection, pets, and love as rewards. The trainer was shocked and had no idea how we should train him if he wasn't responding to treats! We thought we should give Beth's class a shot. Sure enough, within a couple of weeks of Beth's class, Clyde stopped climbing on all of our furniture, stopped jumping up on people, and started to tune in to what we were saying. Now, we have a dog who doesn't go on carpeted surfaces (because he understands that those are our spaces), doesn't jump on furniture, doesn't jump up on people and knock them over when he plays, and he can obey crucial commands like STOP! STOP! saved his life on a number of occasions (which prevented him being hit by a car and a train!) and that's a command we never would have even thought about teaching him had it not been for Beth. When we travel and cannot take Clyde, Beth dog-sits and Clyde is truly excited to see her and spend time with her because he not only respects her but enjoys her company. I cannot recommend Beth's services enough to all dog-owners - even the owners who think they have well-behaved dogs. Beth stresses the importance of giving love and affection to your dog(s) and trains the owners how to earn the respect of their dog(s). Beth genuinely cares about her clients and their dogs and often proactively seeks to check-in with them to ensure they are being consistent in their training and will work with the owners to address any new behavioural concerns. read more

AMAZING! WONDERFUL! HELPFUL! And I could go on!!! Beth and her Brad Pettison techniques have helped me & my fiance train our puppy, Gibbs, in a fun, real-world and treat free way. Gibbs is the star of all our family/ friend gatherings and everyone is so impressed at his listening skills, behaviour and overall demeanour that they simply don't believe he is only 5 months old. When I call Gibbs (no matter where we are - in the house or yard, on the street or even in the dog park!!!) he comes running! No questions, no hesitations and very importantly because I told him to not because I have a treat for him! This is 100% because of Beth and her training. In my opinion, and I know no one on here knows me so it may be worthless, the time and money spent on Beth's class was more than worth every second and every penny. We have used and plan to continue to use the drop in classes for refreshers cause sometimes mom and dad slip up and need reminding too! What class can say they offer drop ins after you graduate!? C & Amanda C.- Sure, its possible you were here visiting, Kim, but even more likely is that you did not actually see Beth's class. I have been to over 8 weeks (2x a week) of classes and never experienced what either of you are describing. And more to it, Amanda, if you really did take her class and your dog was actually "miserable and scared" SHAME ON YOU for continuing to take your dog!!! Dog training is much like everything else in life 1 shoe doesn't fit all but I believe that if you want your dog to listen cause you told it to & when/ where it counts (outside on & off leash included) then this is a great form of training. Wrangler and I graduated from cultured canines COOL course earlier this year. When we first started, wrangler reacted negatively to other dogs, did NOT listen or trust our guidance as owners, and was a terror to bring anywhere. It is now September. Since we started with cultured canines we have learned how to teach our dog to always have a job, how to listen and trust us as leaders, gave us the tools we needed to manage negative behavior, but most of all, helped us turn our crazy German shepherd into a dog I feel comfortable enough to bring with us anywhere. I would get anxious in situations where my dog would be around other people or dogs before we brought him to training. Now, I get excited for new Opportunities for him to prove himself in group situations around other dogs. I know 100% that without the help of Beth and cultured canines, I would not have the relationship and trust with my dog that I have now. She always goes above and beyond to ensure you know the correct things to do, and gives you the tools you need so you feel confident in yourself as an owner. Most importantly, you never have to bribe your dog with treats! Which is awesome since my dog is allergic to everything! I tried to train my Klee Kais (mini husky) puppy to walk on the leash for months. I have had dogs before and never had this much trouble. Every time we would even put the leash on she would start pulling. I read and got the standard advice. "Stop walking when the dog pulls." If that were the case, we wouldn't go for a walk at all. To make matters worse, even though she was perfect with basic commands in the house, she completely stopped listening outside. I was starting to dread the thought of taking her anywhere. Cultured Canines was recommended by friends and I can't even describe the improvement. Cultured Canines definitely has their training program, which is great, but they also take the time to get to know your dog and customize training techniques to work with them. We learned a lot about our puppy and training. The training techniques are so easy to build in to your day-to-day life that once they are habit, you don't think of them as training. We finished our classes in May and 3 1/2 months later our puppy is 13 months and walks well on the leash and recall at the dog park is almost always reliable. (I couldn't imagine I would ever be taking her to a dog park.) We love walking her and have a great deal of fun taking her outside or anywhere in general. We are still on the training journey, but we wouldn't be here without the excellent program Cultured Canines puts on and the very dedicated trainers. Beth is an amazing dog trainer! For any of you who think otherwise, you need to reconsider. At the time I was introduced to her training Ratchet was about 8 months old. He was a dog with no boundaries and wanted to chase anything in sight! One day he decided to chase a bike and I ended up paying about 600 bucks for emergency surgery on his rear paw because it got ran over and skinned down to the bones. I knew there had to be some resolution to the problem of him chasing anything and everything. We enrolled in private lessons and then Beth's first group class. It was a fantastic experience and I wouldn't of changed anything. My dog is far from a sad looking dog. He is now 2 years old and loves life to to fullest. He is definitely one of the happiest dogs you'll ever see and I'd be more then willing to meet up and show you in person! We have a much stronger connection and his listens to anything I ask of him. If he decides he's going to chase a bird I say one word and he's back at my side. It keeps him out of danger and harms way. This class also helped break him of the shy sheltie stereotype. He has more then enough confidence to complete any agility task asked of him and has no problem meeting new people and playing with children. This training is the best I have come across and I highly recommend it to anyone I run into. I would urge anyone out there with a dog they need help with to read this and seriously consider cultured canines as an option. When I got Theia and chose Cultured Canines as a dog class I really had no idea what I was in for. Beth said within about 5 weeks I could walk Theia with a dropped leash, I thought she was nuts. The first week I had Theia she got out the front door and took off on me, it was so scary, she almost got hit by a van and everything. I felt terrible. Needless to say, I didn't think Theia would be a dog that could walk off leash. Sometimes the class was hard, and I had to put time and effort in. But then.....DOWNTOWN Calgary and I am walking with my dog on dropped leash. WHAT. So. If you have been thinking of a class to take with your pup, I would highly recommend you check this one. I am still in disbelief. Not to mention once you are done the 6 weeks (COOL course) Beth gives you 10 additional drop ins for free and then they are only $5 after that. Talk about a good value and a business owner that truly wants to see you succeed and continue to succeed. I think Theia and I will be cultured canines students for life. Best dog class in town. I've learned so much with Beth , I can't even imagine how my life would have been without having met her! If there is one thing I love, its getting the best quality for great value and I can tell you this, Beth takes care of her clients. What I love best about training with her, is that I have actually saved money in the long run by spending less on treats. My first experience with dog training was with a treat trainer and that was not only ineffective, but I really didn't believe in it... I've dealt with horses my whole life so I guess I feel like bribing animals with treats is not the way to go... animals ( both dogs and horses) are too smart for that, they learn quickly how to get treats by manipulating their owners! Beth's class allowed me to work with dogs without needing anything other than a leash and a collar (and i guess poop bags too!). Although the cost of the informative and fun classes seems expensive, I did my research into other dog classes and would you believe that the benefits derived from Ms. O'Connor's sessions, outclass those other better known dog training classes. There are no gimmicks or tricks used although I have heard from friends that this is how other trainers operate. You get what you pay for and believe me, I would spend the money over again. In fact, I return for the drop in classes on a regular basis. Beth does not operate by the clock and even after the 90 minutes has gone by, she will take the time to stay back and answer all of your questions. My Rox is 7 years old. When he first joined my house. To be blunt, I created a Frankenstein puppy. I had several ideas of my own and with a few random training books and others input, it was a mess. I had great intentions but no idea how to properly translate this. I always read about people that could off leash their dog and had these epic relationships with them. They were just so well behaved. I wanted this but had all but come to terms that this wasn't something I'd have. I brought my reactive dog to Cultured Canines 2 years ago. When the course was finished I felt like I had a much better handle on her and my confidence was higher. We still had work to do, which is why Beth provides 12 extra drop in classes. I had tried other training methods and classes with treats but my dog is almost TOO food motivated and it sent her into a frantic state. Therefore she wasn't able to ever focus on me with treats and then more likely to react. And when we did train with treats, she knew. And she knew when I didn't have any... Now I take her everywhere with me. To work. Into stores. Dog daycare. She's not perfect, but no dog is! And she has come so far! And training is a lifelong thing. It doesn't stop after one course. Beth and her training methods have completely changed Oliver, she taught my family how to incorporate training into our lifestyle and the results have been amazing! Stay far, far away if you love your dog!!! She is a long winded, inexperienced 21 year old who encourages negative reinforcement ,(force and correction) training. What a waste of a lot of money...my dog was miserable and scared in her weird outdoor training classes. Do your research and look for a positive style trainer. read more
