We were sold a $28,000 Reverse Osmosis HANS System in 2022, based upon the water test conducted by Culligan; which is without a doubt a conflict of interest. To date we still have yet to be provided with a copy of the original results from said test despite requesting it. We were told by the Culligan Representative that the HANS system was the ONLY available system that would take care of the "toxic slime bacteria" that our water had tested positive for. This of course was false. Slime bacteria would be commonly found in a house that has sat abandoned for a period of time. Without water being run through the pipes for some time, build up would normally occur and could have been simply cleared out by having the well and pipes flushed out.
On top of the machine price we paid a $1700 1 year maintenance and warranty on the machine which snowballed into over a year of problems with the machine; broken parts, basement flooding, constant phone calls to SJ Culligan, loss of time at work for repairs, waiting weeks for parts all while having to bypass the machine in order to have water in the house. We fought with Culligan for months and they finally agreed to take out the HANS system. At that point Culligan replaced the HANS with what they told us was a Commercial Reverse Osmosis System. We were informed that this machine cost significantly less than the HANS but were not given a price adjustment for the replacement, leaving us to pay off a loan for a machine that never worked correctly nor do we own anymore. The new machine has also come with a slew of problems including more broken parts and a flooded basement on multiple occasions. We continue to be charged for service calls when their machine is once again defective.
In addition, we were ABSOLUTLEY CLEAR with the Culligan Representative that sold us the machine that multiple members of our family have severe chlorine allergies. It is beyond problematic that chlorine was indicated in the water test conducted at our kitchen sink. My wife's face is so red, she doesn't want to go out in public and I have painful psoriasis on my elbows and knees. My kids also display painful rashes on their hands frequently.
Finally, there are absolutely no minerals being put back into our water. We have collectively struggled with severe dry mouth for over two years. Our kids are also displaying heightened behavioral issues which can be attributed to the having no zinc, iron, or magnesium in the water they drink all day; as they are homeschooled. My wife and our kids have also been complaining about constant stomach aches. The common denominator would be mineral-less drinking water. Magnesium and zinc are CRUCIAL for gut integrity, digestive system function, and microbiome balance. They have collectively have been displaying bloating, constipation, and inflammation. We were told by the Regional Manager that the system would strip the water and the grey tank would put the minerals back into the water. We were never given any information other than that verbally or in writing about the type of maintenance the commercial system that was put in to replace the HANS required.
These facts all lead to the direct conclusion that we were sold a machine to fulfill commission on a new product Culligan was promoting without an actual need for it to be inside of our home. We were clearly mislead and our desire to protect ourselves and our kids was manipulated to gain a sale of an incredibly expensive machine that was not only completely unnecessary but never worked correctly either.
We were offered a settlement on September 12, 2025 and were pushed to sign with a deadline of September 22, 2025 but decided to conduct the water test to determine the quality of our water and put together the big picture. Upon reaching out with the lab report on October 2, 2025, we have were ignored by Cullligan. After another follow up attempt we were told on October 14, 2025, "we have received your email and it is currently being reviewed." After waiting patiently, we reached out again via email on November 7, 2025 and to date have heard NOTHING from Culligan. read more
