My husband…read moreand I recently took a trip to Scotland, with just about 2 days spent up in Fort William and the Western Highlands. We discovered Torlinnhe Guest House through TripAdvisor and just stayed one night, but it was excellent and we can't wait to go back. The guest house is owned by a Andy and Sue, a really sweet English couple who have now been living in Scotland for ~20 years and running this guest house for the last 5. Stepping into the place is like stepping into a kind friend's house. It is clean and homey, with comfortably-decorated rooms and a common room on the first floor for lounging or enjoying a full Scottish breakfast in the mornings. Andy and Sue really go out of their way to make you feel comfortable without being overly friendly or involved in your holiday plans. But if you have questions, they are a wealth of information and can point you in the right direction for exploring the UK's outdoor capitol. We learned quite a bit about the local area from our conversations with them, and Sue even went out of her way to drive us to the look out point to actually see Ben Nevis before our departure (we didn't have a car). We would highly recommend Torlinnhe and found it to be a gem of an accommodation and experience. We also went during low season, so were able to enjoy Fort William in a leisurely way.

In many cases you walk by, admire from a far, take a picture and move on. Well, this wasn't the case. Mackays Guest House, right in the heart of Oban picturesque waterfront. A beautiful property run by Iona Mackechnie who was the sweetest and loving soul. A warm Scottish smile greeted us upon arrival. Checking in was quite a breeze. Once inside, the foyer with its soothing calm beachy vibe and tartan pattern. Beautiful cool tones on the walls and throughout the property. We had room number 1 which was one of the ones downstairs. Once you walk in, it's pretty massive and spacious. Modern vibe with its cleans line and cool color palettes perfectly suitable for the sea. Nice comfortable bed awaits you as well as two plush comfortable sling back chairs with the million dollar view of the waterfront. Heater fireplace in front of the bed for those chilly nights which is a given. As well as the flatscreen television above. You also have your en-suite which is nice as a lot of places don't offer them. It's pretty spacious with plenty of room for sharing. Walk in shower, all your toiletries offered. To top it off, the warm Scottish welcome of their traditional drink the irn-brn soda and tea cakes were on the dresser. What a sweet little welcome treat. Location is just minutes from the beach. Walking distance from the main town where plenty of restaurants and shops are. The ferry and train station. There's parking available right in front but based on first come. Street parking also available along the front but not quite sure what the restrictions are. Mackays Guest House is a must if you're looking for a quaint weekend getaway or for a longer stay for that nice R&R break. Perfect location, friendly face, beautiful view of the waterfront, minutes from town and restaurant. An overall amazing experience. Highly recommend.

There isn't really a common area to hang out in, other than the breakfast room in the morning. And that is kept at a minimum as breakfast is served from 8-9am. Our room (Room 4) looked out at Oban Bay. Which was very nice. After returning from dinner in town - which is a short walk away - we just sat in front of the great bay window in our room, drank tea, read, and watched boats sail by. The room was rather large and nicely decorated. Not only did our room have the window sitting area, it also had a separate sitting area between the king size bed and bathroom. We were in Suite 8, The Linnhe Suite. it overlooked the water front. There was a Japanese toilet. Most marvelous thing I've seen. LOL. No two toilets were the same in Scotland. I may travel all of Europe just comparing toilets. Merely walk up to the toilet and the lid will raise up. The toilet seat is heated. There is even a remote control that goes with the toilet. There was a spectacular brass tub. There is a mirror over the tub that has a remote to turn it into a TV. There was a long and spacious two head shower. We were just coming off the WHW. But if I would have known how spectacular it was here, we would have stayed at least 2 more nights.

Centrally located in Port William where you can walk to restaurants, pubs, and stores. Rooms are spacious and the bathrooms new. Tea kettle, tea, bottled water provided. Hair dryer and nice toiletries. Large sunny windows. TV and free WiFi. The lounge area has guide books for the region. A lot of hikers stay here. Tea always available. The breakfast is unbelievable! It's listed as "Continental" but this is incorrect. It's a full breakfast and you can eat enough that all you need for lunch is a scone! Fresh fruit, cereal, a variety of breads, cold meats and cheeses, eggs and bacon cooked to order, French press coffee. All served in a sunny pleasant dining area. Hosts Lorna and Stuart are the nicest people and so accommodating! They have had the business for 20 years. They have really beautified the house and have made it so comfortable.

Absolutely charming guest house, with a large and well appointed room, comfortable bed, and nice en suite bath. Best shower i had on the WHW, beds were nice, rooms had fans, TV and little random knick knacks to make it feel more like home such as a bean bag chair in the room. free wifi covered the whole 3 story house. this place is better than the hotels on the WHW. as my friend said "if i had a house like this, I would be proud"
