I struggled with getting Mastitis OVER and OVER and although she did NOT diagnose my babies tongue tie she pointed us in the direction to have it checked out. I cannot say enough about how special Katie is. She was the first person to help discover my son's lip tie. I had gone to four pediatricians and saw three lactation consultants when my son was an infant. I had the worst time breastfeeding and knew something was wrong, yet all of them said he had nothing wrong with him anatomically. Katie and I met at her breastfeeding support group when my son was 20 months old. She instantly knew what was wrong. She referred me to the expert in the bay area to have his mouth examined. This morning he had a frenectomy and this afternoon he breastfed for the first time with complete suction. I am so grateful to Katie. I owe so many thanks to Katie for helping me. My daughter was still not taking a bottle at 8 months. We tried 6-7 bottles, took classes about how to get your baby to take a bottle, nothing worked. I work full time (from home due to COVID) and could no longer sustain breastfeeding and having a full time job. Katie changed everything. I am so grateful to have found Katie! She has been such an integral part of my breastfeeding journey. I had a really rough go at first, my daughter lost significant weight after birth and also dealt with jaundice which made her initial weight growth very slow. The first few lactation consultants and pediatricians that we saw kept saying how important it was for her to get back to her birth weight by 2 weeks old. This apparently is a standard that is extremely frustrating when your child does not meet it and for me, every visit to these specialists left me feeling inadequate or like a failure. Katie was a breath of fresh air! She was supportive, understanding, and a true advocate for me. She does a super thorough exam of your baby's mouth and helped us see that our daughter had lip, tongue and buccal (cheek) ties. She referred us to an excellent dentist who specializes in frenectomy so we could fix the issue and help our daughter gain better mobility in her mouth and tongue for better breastfeeding and better eating overall. She helped me feel more confident in getting a deep latch (and also supported me in finding ways to become more comfortable and relaxed while breastfeeding). She also helped me to succeed in boosting my daughter's intake of milk helping her to gain weight really well!
