After a phone conversation with the offices of this practice regarding the unnecessary blood test…read more Which was 2 test last year (after stateing would be going to Medicare in 4 months only needing 4 months of refile approval) was denied and then promptly requiring7 test this time and a mandatory office visit for a prescription refile. Wow that's putting it to us. As we noted the cost would be more than the prior times at 700.00. Did our own blood test thru healthonelabs.com 99.00 When asked why a in person visit was needed as the blood work would be done. It was said quality service. I mentioned more like you want the money, going there in person was not necessary, but would be in order to collect the fees. I was told you can always go to SEAMAR. As it was cheaper and they would do refiled without a visit. Well that was strange reply. As I'm sure if I had never been there they would in fact not do so. What she was implying was that they have lower standards. Which was no even close to what not questions was about. She was just not going to admit that a policy of there's was in fact a way of making money. And if you cant a afford it then your welcome to go else where. Susan's words. This place is about there way or high way. We wont be using them when it is time to assign a practinure to new Medicare policy. There are other doctors that are part of Medicare supplement programs in anacortes that are not part of anacortes family practice.

Inside Anacortes Family Medicine, the staff is very nice and helpful. The front desk helps with anything you need. The nurses are great, and the doctors tend to run mostly on time. I've rarely had to wait too long - there are exceptions, but emergencies do come up. The clinic is a part of Island Hospital, and they are only a few blocks away from the Island Hospital ER. This is good because sometimes situations call for an ER visit, and the doctors have referred me down there on a handful of occasions throughout my life. Since they are affiliated with Island Hospital, they have good access to specialists for situations calling for one, as well as special testing done in a lab. They use the lab at Island Hospital. There is not one inside the clinic. There is an urgent care facility housed in the same building as Anacortes Family Medicine, and if Anacortes Family Medicine cannot fit you in to see a doctor, the urgent care can - there just might be a bit of a wait. This is very convenient. I highly recommend Anacortes Family Medicine!

I made an appointment for Jan 2026 and it was cancelled by them and rescheduled for APRIL. So I…read morewent to my April appointment which was at 3:00 and wasn't seen until after 3:30 (which I was okay with), but I spent a good portion of the time with the doctor answering questions that they should already have had the answers to. Then we addressed my blood work. The provider said she needed to leave the room to do a calculation, leaving me with the impression that she was coming back into the room, as I had a couple of other things that needed to be addressed. NOPE, the nurse came in and said "okay, we'll see you next year." I said I still had things I needed to talk about, but apparently the provider moved on to her next patient. I didn't even get to spend 20 minutes with the provider. I was then told I would have to finish the appointment at another visit and they couldn't get me in until June...which means another copay. They also said they would send a "note" to my provider about my concerns and somebody would call me back. Now it's 4 days later and no call. I felt like I got the shaft, and was extremely upset with their lack of caring.

My PA was warm, approachable, very knowledgeable. I really liked working with her, and will…read morecontinue if I can. She's the best. The system itself is truly awful. Forced to argue with a bot to even get to the front desk and speak with a human. THEN it's going to require several layers of whom to ask, to get anything done. Sheesh! Whatever you do, don't get sick or you'll be banished to the eternal waiting room of urgent care with health providers that know nothing about you, nor have time to find out. Whatever is wrong with you had better be able to withstand a four month wait to see your primary, and even then you're going to wait in the reception area 30-45 minutes and another 30 minutes or so in the exam room. THEN you get 15 minutes. Why do you think people do supplements they don't know much about and ask Dr. Google. Whidbey Health system is the worst and I may yet get so frustrated I go off island for a primary care.

Terrible experience at billing. I wish I could put " 0 or minus star" after dealing with Billing…read moreDept. They do not want to review the bill at all. I visited this clinic in October twice since the young doc could not do I/D at first visit, I had to come back again. Tri care supposed to cover 100% for these visits as my coverage. I got billed couple hundreds dollars for one of the visits. I called Tri-care, and was told that skagit used wrong code, so they need to use correct one to submit the bill again. When I asked the lady from Tricare , she could not tell me the code, Skagit needs to call Tri-care if they have a question. I called Skagit 360-814-7575, the young lady who talked to me at 1134 am on Dec 15, 2025 told me that they did not use wrong code and I need to check my insurance for coverage, if it's wrong code, "I" need to call Tri-care and get the correct billing code to tell her because it's MY responsibility to correct the billing. I am a patient, I am not working for billing at Skagit nor Tri-care. When I asked her to call Tricare to figure out what was wrong, She said, "Skagit will not call insurance company, we already communicated with insurance company. You are responsible for this billing. " She told me to have Tricare contact Skagit or get the billing code by myself. I explained to her the staffs from Tricare cannot make outgoing call directly, but she kept saying no. I am sure they do billing hundreds everyday. Human make mistakes , but how she knows she is not wrong 100% for sure? I was refused to request for the review the bill , not willing to call insurance company. Tri-care staffs I called cannot make outgoing calls. If Skagit cannot help to solve this problem. Who would help? Basically, if they use wrong billing code, patients need to shut up and pay the whole bill?????

I felt silly because it turned out not to be anything serious, but was treated with empathy, got good answers and left feeling reassured. Lisa Kohler was especially thoughtful, and I appreciated the quick follow up with a phone call to explain my lab results to me.
