Green eyed monster with a swan flat white. All incredible!

I cannot fault this place. The yummiest, most complex food, the best coffee (and best made) from Coffee Alchemy, an ever changing always incredible menu, and the nicest staff of any cafe in Australia! I have been here many times and never disappointed; I've in fact decided it's the only cafe worth going out of my way for anymore! Go many times, try everything!

They're at the station so they have to be FAST- and these guys can crank out a perfect piccolo in under 2 mins. For a railway station cafe they have created a pleasant environment, with lovely hanging plants, reasonable prices and super-friendly & efficient staff... what more could you want? Cute menus with little jokes to make you double-take, and good deals like gruyere toastie + coffee for 10 bucks, or the delightful sounding labne & zataar wrap for 5.

I decided to try Cuckoo Callay after reading great reviews and seeing a whole bunch of drool-worthy Insta pics. First off, the location is unbeatable, located on the doorstep of Newtown Station. The cafe is quite quirky in character with whimsical feature pieces like a bright purple and blue cuckoo clock and a half wall of mirrors. We ordered two dishes: #Hashtag Boom Bam! - Jerusalem artichoke, chat potato and Spanish onion has served with roast beetroot puree, parsnip cream, 63 degree poached egg and bacon Pork'd - Pulled pork patty, chargrilled broccolini, manchego & mustard sauce, 63 degree poached egg on sourdough (my choice) Both were presented well and I loved that the Pork'd dish wasn't as rich as I thought it would be. On the service front, the staff were friendly and attentive. Also, if you are a dog owner, this is a great spot to bring your pooch. Alternatively, if you're like me and love dog watching, you're likely to get your fix during the weekend.

It's the 3rd year of the ANNUAL BACON FEST menu, with the release of 9 limited edition dishes that salute some iconic blockbuster films! Ingredients sourced from local state farms and local meat produce there's something for everyone in this menu! Get in quick, these items that are on offer concurrently with the usual menu will be with us for another 9 weeks only! The choices today were very strategic. As they show the diversity in being able to cater to a wide spectrum of Newtown urbanites. The CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE BACON RIND is a beautifully plated work of art. The crispy maple fused coil of bacon crowns the pork sausage and bacon steak brioche... Cracked pepper and bacon crisps jewel the a shimmering, silky orb of creamy egg white that encases the inevitable liquid yolk slow cooked with precision at 63 degrees. This is a stunning dish and ideal for the bacon lover! SLUMDOG MILLIONAIRE is the answer to the burger call that we will always yearn for. A universal love of the burger sees this pimped up pulled pork, onion ring, slaw, chipotle, cheddar situation on a black bun complete with swirling Doritos train... It's monstrous and exquisitely done! We ignore the absence of actual bacon in JURASSIC PORK, but it's clearly designed to entice the cafe / casual dining snobs offering a very A'La Carte fine dining vibe without any pretentiousness. My god this is good. Slow cooked tenderness that crumbles at the touch of your knife, in contrast to the crackling rind top! It's the cherry compote, granny smith apple puree and apple pickle / fennel salad that really gives the restaurant dinner/lunch scene run for the money. I really wasn't expecting to be that impressed with what was served! Great friendly service, packed to the rafters and yet lightning fast waiting times! These guys are pros obviously as they cater to the foot traffic leading up to the station next door! A definite must this season!!!!

I seldom give a fiver cause let's be honest...no one is perfect but the food and service was awesome here. I've come to expect pretty sub par service in Australia compared to Canada but this place had servers who smiled, took our order promptly and even let us substitute a purée for a pesto. Plus they had a menu dedicated entirely to bacon so obviously it's great! They even let us all pay separately which also isn't common here from what I've experienced. The decor is cute and the tables outside are good for people watching. As Nike says....just do it!

Just a quick stop here before getting my train. Located at newtown station this cooky little cafe gets the job done. I only ordered a skinny flat white but it was really good, and this is in comparison to my snobby Melbourne standards :) They also have great outdoor seating to bask in the morning sun and an express window if you want coffee to go.

You order at the front register, and they bring your order to you. I've only tried their hojicha latte and taro latte, but they are the best lattes (no coffee) I've ever had. They're so flavorful and rich with a fluffy foam design on top. The drink itself is smooth and creamy but not overly sweet. Hits the spot!

They've set up shop in a teeny tiny Lilliputian cottage in Kensington Lane in the new Central Park precinct. It backs onto Spice Alley and has light-filled interiors that are all white walls and light wood and it feel positively Scandinavian. Then there's the coffee. Good lord, man. It comes served in these custom cups, they're kind of grainy and glazed and feel like they've been hewn out of very light sandstone by some unnamed master craftsman who will die a nobody but be recognised posthumously as one of the finest artisans of this or any age, Van Gogh style. The barista had the obligatory mustache but boy, did this dude know what service felt like. Polite, friendly, charming, without being overbearing. Win stars out of five. Top class, thank you and goodnight.

I've been meaning to write up a review for weeks, but struggled to choose what to write about. The menu is seasonal and changes weekly, some samples include finely cut wagyu, crusted in dukkah and served on sourdough, honey-glazed bacon with fresh avocado, and mushrooms with ricotta. Almost everything comes served with sprinklings of sprouts and greens grown on the windowsill. The menu is small but there's almost always something for everyone; however, those looking for your classic big breakfast should come prepared to settle for something a little different. The quality of coffee is not entirely consistent, but the molasses-infused sugar makes up for it. I could eat a jar of it by itself. There's also a range of sandwiches on offer. A friend recently brought home lamb-shoulder on sourdough that had me drooling. I need to be strong, three visits in one day is just too much.

And if I was going to personify this cafe, that's how it'd go. It's small and charmingly ramshackle and chilled out and social all at the same time, it's basically how I want my living room to be. The coffee is fantastic, as are the views across the new Central Park development, and weirdly the noise of the construction across the road doesn't seem to come inside. The small menu is on the spendier side, but it looked creative & wholesome. Bring a book or a notepad to write deep thoughts in.

Sebastian, the robust English chef, serves up traditional and delicious café cuisine for breakfast and lunch on weekdays and a beautiful roast for Sunday lunch. He's funny at best, though I might warn you not to sit too close to the kitchen unless you want to overhear a colorful monologue of cynicism and crude jokes. Some winning items on the menu include the "Big Salad" which changes daily and can include a delicious mixture of pumpkin, cous cous, eggplant, walnuts, raisins, and any other odds and ends the chef decides to add on the day. I recommend ordering it with poached chicken, which is as tender as can be. Another popular item is the BLT, served on Turkish bread. Careful though, it's big enough to feed your entire family of seven. If you can appreciate a good chip (or 2 dozen), Bar Mattino's are hand cut and fried to perfection. Lastly, I would highly and enthusiastically recommend the house made brownie, for which I solely blame the gain of 3 kilos. It's chocoloatey, and melty, and powered sugary and just ALL good.
