First off, I love that this place has gluten free and dairy free for almost everything. My boyfriend wanted to try this place out as his family is from Nicaragua and he said it's very similar to Cuban style food. I have not really had Cuban food before so I didn't really have any expectations and or knowing to what to expect for flavor. However, both of us were blown away by the food and we're totally eat here again. We both left content and bellies full. I got the coconut margarita and he got the mango Mojito for our drinks . Both of the drinks were freshly made ( no pre mix here) and equally delicious. I ordered the spicy Mojo shrimp bowl with yellow rice. This was the first time I've ever had tostones and fell in love. The flavors of the whole bowl were amazing and I didn't even put hot sauce or salt on it to begin with. My boyfriend got the Roma vieja plate with fried yuca. The fried yuca was soooo good with the garlic dipping sauce. The brisket was tasty to The prices were really reasonable for the area. Just know that the Mississippi District , you gotta find street parking down a side street as it is usually crowded on the Main Street or limited. The aroma from the street was intoxicating and the pleasure never stopped, we ordered 2 different bowls beans yellow rice moist shredded pork beautiful slices of avocado mango orange slice and lime to enhance the dishes flavors and if this wasn't good already but then there's crispy salty yummy fried plantain and sweet soft ripe plantain like a bite of fresh plantain pudding. This was our first time visiting, and we were not disappointed. Cute little restaurant with very authentic options for Cuban flavored food. I ordered the spicy shrimp bowl with black beans, Platanos, plantains, and instead of rice I opted to have the green salad that had fresh avocado slices on it. Everything was very flavorful. My husband had a Cuban coffee which he said was excellent. He also had the shredded beef bowl which he enjoyed very much. The service was very attentive and friendly. Casual place with outdoor seating in warmer weather. Looking forward to returning to taste some of their other options. Great menu, adult beverages available. I have been wanting to go here for so long after seeing the one on Hawthorne and didn't realize there was a second location closer to where I live. I ordered online and it was ready right when I got there. I got the Havana bowl which they do in a half portion. I appreciate that they had that option. The half portion was pretty regular sized too. Only 10$. The meat was really juicy and tender. Loved the maduros and tostones. Avocado was ripe and the mango's were such a nice touch. Beans were flavorful and not bland at all. The perfect bowl. I liked the ambiance inside too. They had indoor and outdoor seating. Large menu, I liked that you could easily find healthy options here too. Employees were friendly. We stopped at Cubo for a late lunch at around 4 PM and we're all extremely hungry Below is my take on each of the items we ordered THE CUBAN Slow roasted & shredded pork shoulder, pit ham, Swiss cheese, house made mojo, caramelized onion & pickl - I would say this sandwich was very flavorful but almost too flavorful for a Cuban , a true Cuban wouldn't have the caramelized onions which I think made this more flavorful MADUROS Fried ripe, soft, sweet plantains - These were delicious, but not as sweet as I expected, still good though HAVANA Slow roasted pork shoulder w/ house made citrus, garlic and onion mojo sauce & caramelized onion - This was pretty good and it all came together really well The rice and beans was what you would expect from most dishes of this nature The service in itself was very friendly and I would go back and maybe try some different dishes read more

Food was okay. Got one of their spicy shrimp bowls. I enjoyed it, but it wasn't spectacular. I really like the sweet plaintains mixed in though. No flavor in the mojo pork at all. I tried the Havana bowl which came w/ rice, beans, maduros, tostones & mango & avocado in addition to the pork. The meat just tasted boiled plain, I doused with tapatío just to give a bit of flavor lol. The tastiest part was prob the rice & beans. The tostones were pretty good too. They do have a pretty good HH (3-6 I believe) with draft beers for $4.50 and half sandos w/ a side for $8, might come back for that tho. Can't believe it's taken me so long to make it to this place, but it was fantastic. Counter-service casual Cuban, great concept. Ingredients were very fresh, and extra-tasty. Kudos that nearly the entire menu is, or can be done GF. The Mojo Pork was solid, and appreciate that you can choose several types of rice. I used to live in Tampa and am always curious about Cuban options in the area. I came with a friend for lunch and was intrigued by the Picadillo Soya bowl. As someone who can't eat beef, I'm always intrigued by a picadillo option I can eat. The flavors were perfect and super tasty! I have been looking for good happy hours and great deals in my new neighborhood, Boise, I was pleased to see a 1/2 sandwich with plantains for $8 on their menu during HH. The ambiance was lovely - colorful and bright with plants and some in house graffiti. You order at the counter so I can't say much about the service except my host was pleasant enough. The drink came within minutes - a delicious but small Coconut margarita. It was gone in several sips leaving a lot of ice to my dismay. The sandwich was hot on its heels, and first impressions were "that's not gonna fill me up" which was true. It was a half of a meal. Flavor was great, the bun was was slightly warmed and the meat was adequately spiced. I loved the plantains but with only 3 on my plate they were gone much too soon. Overall, l liked the food and the place but don't consider this a "deal" simply about 1/2 price for the 1/2 the food. Which means I won't be coming back for some time. read more

Upon recommendation, we visited Cubo today and grabbed a variety of their menu items to go. All our choices were sublime! We have no pictures of the 2 Empanadas, we tried the savory soy picadillo and sweet guava, and they basically got inhaled. Pure joy is how I would describe the pastry and fillings. For plates we tried the shrimp and guava chicken. They offer brown rice or white we got o e if each. Rice is important, this restaurant cares about their rice. Flakes apart, perfect cook, thank you for good rice Cubo! The black beans, spice is just right, I like to taste my food, not a huge spice and these black beans deliver. Shrimp, lightly spiced, squeeze of lime, great bite, and a large portion. Chicken, I didn't taste, I'm pescatarian, friends say it's tender, not spicy, and you can really taste the guava. Lastly we got The Cuban sandwich, again looks amazing and friends and is fire . Oh, had the plantains, wow beyond, fried yucca kind of like a French fry taste and a little Caribbean salad with a sweet vinegar also yummy. The service was ok, but did not give a warm inviting feel. The person behind the counter kind of came off as bored and just going through the motions. Great food, delivered fast and with great service. We sat outside on a warm evening and enjoyed the dimly lit ambience. We had our young baby with us and everyone there seemed very kid friendly. We ordered the Cubano with fried yuca, the vegan plate, empanadas and cocktails. The fried yuca was to die for, so crispy and perfectly spiced with a great sauce for dipping. The guava empanada was also amazing. The Cubano I thought was really good (not as good as sanguich de Miami, but that's a high bar). Overall this is definitely one of our favorite new restaurants, and we are excited to explore the menu more. read more

Was excited to try out this Cuban food restaurant and sadly it wasn't all we were hoping for. The biggest turnoff was the unfriendliness from the staff, and by staff I mean the one person working the front. It was a slow night and when we walked in no one was at the front so we stood there looking over the menu. When the guy working came out from the back he just came and stood in front of us and waited without saying anything - didn't greet us or seem interested to have us there, overall was standoffish and awkward.
