I began renting with CubeSmart on 8/9/20. On 8/19/20, I discovered that my unit had been broken into. I let the management office know. she told me she would take a look at the camera footage of the last 10 days and get back to me. There are no cameras on the back side of the facility where my unit was. I called again on the 22nd and left a message with questions about an update and was not called back. On 8/25, I filed a police report. the police officer determined that the cameras wouldn't have been able to show anything due to the placement of the many cameras in the facility. He also pointed out that the slide on the unit itself had been cut so that my lock could not securely latch to the storage unit itself. I called that evening and left a message before closing time about my concern for the storage unit not being secure, and for it being vandalized a second time. No one got back to me. On 8/27, I finally spoke with management for the very first time since the incident had happened. (7 days) I drove to my storage unit every single day to check on my items in the mean time. I was given the name and number of the district manager, but was told he would not be back in office until the following week. The only option I was given at the time was to move my own things, from time out of my day, into another unit, but only after signing another lease and continuing to pay rent with this facility. due to a lack of communication and poor management, I did not feel comfortable signing another month lease. I am a single mom and work 2 jobs. I don't have time to move my storage unit. On 9/1, I called the dm and left a message. I then went to the facility to speak with the manager in person. I recorded the conversation. I asked her why my slide had not been fixed yet, why it wouldn't be priority at a place that prides themselves on security. She said she's not even sure they have the part for it. nobody had ever even offered for the slide to be fixed. No work order has been put in. There is a form that I could sign to have that fixed, however that afternoon was the first mention of it (a week after reporting the cut slide). The district manager called me shortly after (from a blocked number - not recorded. Very unprofessional). Immediately he was defensive. He kept referring only to the notes his property manager had JUST made. She noted that she had given me the option to sign the paper to have the lock fixed. I expressed to him that I'll sign that, however I'm concerned that I've been paying for my items to be unsecured over half the time I've been renting from them due to poor management. He continuously interrupted me and ignored my concerns that I found my lock to be broken, with the police officer, 6 days prior on the 25th and I'm only just then being presented with the option to have it fixed by signing something. My goal in reaching him was to feel heard and possibly get my money back at least for this first month that I was renting. After being interrupted multiple times and basically being told that my concerns are mute, I told me that rent is due tomorrow and if it don't pay, I'll need to move out. There was absolutely no remorse for mine and my 4 year old son's items being stolen or broken. There was no concern that his management team was not taking the proper steps to help me from the beginning, or that my unit had been left unlocked and unsecured for a week. His only tone was to be defensive, and tell me that if I did not pay, I would have to remove my (remaining) items from the still unlocked unit. Please do not rent with this company. They are not good people and do not do good business. read more
