Being from Miami, I had high hopes. First time at the Cuban Diner. Service: Service was good. Young lady was kind and attentive to service. Ambiance: As I sat in the car with my mom, I told her that if I had to judge the restaurant by the exterior, it would have been a hard pass. Diner is a very old strip center. The exterior is filthy and unkempt. Food: Both mom and I ordered sweet tea. Firstly, the tea was not sweet at all. I had to ask the waitress if it was sweet or unsweet. She offered to take make and add sugar, but I declined. Sugar is best added when tea is hot. Also, the tea was old, tasting like it sat in the cooler without a lid. Mom order and el cubano sandwich. I ordered a ham croqueta. I also order a side of yucca fries. You get 6 fries in the order. Mom said her sandwich was good. Similar to the experience with the tea, the croquetas in my sandwich tasted old like they had been sitting. The yucca fries were the star of the meal. They were hot and perfect. I could not stomach the tea or the sandwich, but thankful for the 3 fries I had to hold me over. I did not complain to the waitress, nor did she ask why my sandwich was uneaten. Definitely not the fresh cuban food you get in Miami. So disappointed. Maybe I hit the diner on an off day, but It did not inspire a desire for a return visit. :( read more

-Left so full I could feel my belly jiggle with every bump in the road- I am visiting from the Portland area, and I have never been to the Southeast. I wanted to try foods that were new to me and this place had great reviews, so I went for it. The inside of the diner is very simple and basic, but the food is incredible. I got a shredded chicken dish over rice and topped with mayo and cheese!! It was so rich and fantastic!! There was enough there that I have a second meal for lunch tomorrow. It really made me say, "WOW!" I also got the fries, which were perfect with such a tasty garlic dipping sauce that I wanted to drink it. I got grilled sweet plantains, too, which had a perfect blend of sweet and tart. The pièce de resistance, however, was the homemade flan I got at the end. I was already stuffed. But I couldn't resist!! It was incredible. Thick, not too sweet, wonderful texture - I had never truly tasted flan until this moment. Every other flan in my life was a lie until today. We love the Cuban Diner. Lechon Asada is my favorite dish and Ropa Vieja is my husband's favorite. The maduras are fantastic, as well as the black beans and yuca fries. I can always get two meals out of my entree because they are so generous, and the leftovers warm up nicely. The mojitos are delicious - so far my favorites are mango and pineapple, my husband likes the moonshine mojito. Staff is super nice. With Nashville's lack of options for Cuban food, I jumped at the chance to get some while driving through Atlanta. The Cuban Diner exceeded my expectations! I went the traditional route; pork, black beans, plantains, and some rice. Each item was cooked well, but the plantains stole the show. They were caramelized well and had the perfect amount of sweetness. I wish I had about 4 more orders of them. Since we were driving, I didn't finish my whole meal, but I will say it holds up well. We made some for lunch a few days later and it was just as delicious! I don't know too much about Atlanta so I won't get into the location, but the restaurant itself was located in a strip mall tucked off of a main road. We passed it once, but were easily able to locate it on our trip around the "block." The restaurant was clean and we were easily able to grab a seat. As a proud daughter of Cubans, I can honestly say this food brought back memories of my mom and gradma's food. It really is great! We got there at 9p on a Friday. It was completely empty and a bit dark. The place is pretty big just not fancy. Very unassuming. If you are looking for something more than a cafeteria, this might not be the place for you. It would be a he in the wall if it weren't for the fact that is so large. Service was good and prompt. We ordered a traditional mojito and the sangria mojito. The sangria mojito was done just like i asked, with very little sugar in it. Canmt be mojitos at $5! For dinner we ordered the roast pork and the vaca frita. I was fighting my husband for the pork! It was juicy...juicy...juicy...did I say juicy? Yes, I usually don't go for pork but this was not pork...this was Cuban Diner pig! I highly recommended! My vaca frita was cooked and seasoned well, with LOTS of sauteed onions just like it should be. Both dishes came with three sides! The congrí was delicious, the yuca fries yummy and tostones were not too soggy, not too crispy! Just right! My only food complaint was the Tres Leches cake. Granted Im not a sweets person but this just didn't taste great. It was a bit dull and unimpressive in flavor. All this for the price of $50 and we had enough leftover for lunch the next day! Cuban Diner - Really good Cuban Sandwich and Delicious Maduros - Cuban Near Me - Marietta, Georgia

Five stars for customer service - let's start with that. I was enthusiastically greeted when I entered and when I asked the server what she recommended, she laughed, pleasantly, with a big, beautiful smile and said, 'Everything on the menu!' Exterior - old, outdated strip mall with Thrifty Nickel, East Marietta Drugs, RC's Soul Food. They are about one mile west of the Big Chicken on Roswell Rd. On the opposite side of the street from Williamson Brothers Barbecue. Interior - dark, sparse - but clean - but I was ordering take-away so that's just a general impression. I ordered a pressed chicken sandwich. It came with a choice of rice, fries, black beans, yuca fries, maduros, or tostones. The chicken was pounded paper thin and breaded, had I known it was going to be that thin, I would have opted for grilled instead of fried / breaded chicken. It was also covered in a heaping helping of grilled onions (even though this is not listed in the description. The sandwich came with 2 small slices of tomato and romaine lettuce. No condiments, dressing or melted cheese - so I requested mayo and 2 more slices of tomatoes for some much needed moisture! My fries were also super duper over-cooked. The staff was very nice about it though, I asked for beans & rice to replace the fries - and the server brought out more fries, but added a complimentary serving of beans & rice for me to try later. He also insisted that take a complimentary drink while I waited, so I opted for a cup of water. The only things I found a little off-putting, but it still wouldn't keep me from coming back were a) the cook (who I think might be the owner) came to the table and sorta chastised me about the tomatoes. He peered at my sandwich and asked "Doesn't it have tomatoes on it already?" Keep in mind, I actually said to the server, 'May I have some MORE sliced tomatoes?' so I never tried to pretend that the sandwich was missing tomatoes. b) I arrived around 3:15pm - the server gave me a lunch menu, but then took it from me and replaced it with a dinner menu. The dinner menu says it starts at 5pm. The lunch menu says 11 - 3, so I think the dinner menu should be updated to say it starts at 3pm, not 5pm. The price difference was about 70 cents, but I still found it a little annoying - especially since I was a new customer and indicated as such. Since I was mildly annoyed (lol) that he came over to 'check me' about the tomatoes, I did ask about the grilled onions and he took the menu from the table and looked at it with a very stern face, then said, no - they were not supposed to be on the sandwich and he even offered to re-make it. He also asked if I was pleased with the sandwich and I got the distinct impression that had I said No - he would have re-made it. But I really didn't want to offend him. So I'll be back to try other things on the menu, to see if I can bump them up a star - and to give the server who was so nice his tip, since I despite not enjoying this meal, I wanted to tip him for his courtesy. But when I hobbled to the car for singles, I discovered they were missing thanks to sticky-fingered children in my life. Cuban Diner has been a 5 for me since the first time I ate here. But recently it got even better when I decided to skip my usual Cuban sandwich and order the traditional Cuban pork. Oh. My. God. If you like the piggy as much as I do you must try this! Order the Cuban (yuca) fries as your side and after you finish dipping those little beauties in the mojo sauce go ahead and just pour the remaining sauce over your pork. We found this place after asking Ernesto, a Cuban-American friend of Daniel B., the best Cuban place around here. Honestly without word-of-mouth, I think this place would be hard to find. Like other hidden gems, this one is located in a very dated & sketchy-looking strip mall. But inside, it's welcome to Cuba - the music, the photographs, the staff, and of course the food :) Owner & server were both very warm & friendly. Good selection of sandwiches & entrees, including lunch specials available from 11-5pm. I got the 1/2 Cuban sandwich with 2 sides for $5.99 - asked if I could get the 1/2 Cuban chicken sandwich instead but they said nada :( Sandwich was pretty good though but honestly don't eat them enough to compare with other restaurants. The sides were awesome - I got the plantains which are more like dessert (my favorite Cuban side - and loved that these were THICK pieces) & yellow rice (tasty). My friends liked their meals too (Cuban chicken sandwich with Yuca fries for $5.80, and Grilled fish fillet w/ Cuban lime marinade, plantains, & mixed vegetables for $6.95). Doggone! This place was everything my family was looking for and more. First off, I roll deep. Me, wifey, plus 4 kids ages 2-11. Let me tell you the 3 things we were looking for and they nailed it on all 3 levels. 1. The food. The food was delicious, authentic, tasty, fresh. Whatever you get be sure to get either the beef or chicken empanada as an appetizer. The sweet plantains we had as sides were the best I've ever had. The Yuca fries were great. As a main dish you can't go wrong with the traditional pork or chicken. We also had Cuban sandwiches and they were perfect. 2. The prices. This place was affordable. With a big appetizer, drinks, it cost $49 to feed my family of 6 and we had whatever we wanted from the menu. 3. The service. I found our server to be very sweet, attentive, and timely. I can not say enough amazing things about this place. The food is so good and tasty. I have ordered from here many times before but I stopped in last night for take out. Fear not as you drive over that steep hill leading down to the parking lot of the kinda sketchy strip mall. You are in the right place if you're in search of dreamy sweet plaintains. We came at 6:30 on a weekday night and were seated immediately. A friendly server greeted us promptly and gave us menus to look over. We ordered a Mango Mojito and a Guava Mojito to start off. When asked what she recommended, our server suggested the Ropa Vieja and Palomilla Steak for beef, and Traditional Lecho Asado and Lomo de Puerco for pork. Surprisingly, she didn't recommend any chicken dishes. I opted for the Ropa Vieja with a side of tostones, maduros, and yuca fries. Guava Mojito - It took some time to come out, but I appreciated the time and care the bartender put in really muddling the mint for the drinks. The Guava Mojito was quite lovely and refreshing with a strong flavor of mint. It's pretty weak rum-wise, though, and this is coming from a girl who gets bright red after 1 beer. For $5, they need at least 1 more shot of rum in that. Yuca Fries - These appeared to have a cornmeal-like breading and thus, weren't super crispy or crunchy. Still, they had a nice texture and within, the yuca was wonderful soft and savory. It came with a container of mojo sauce. The mojo really punches you in the face with garlic before introducing the lime and olive oil lurking in the background. I mean, phew. This would probably kill the first vampire you throw it on, or the first person you try to kiss after your meal. I'm all right with garlic overkill, though, but just a warning to those who might not love its pungent flavor - go easy with the dipping. Tostones - These were rather tasteless and kind of hard, as if they had sat around for a while after being fried. They also weren't crispy, as the menu had described. I'd pass on these in the future. Maduros - These plaintains were by far the stars of the night. A nice crisp exterior surrounded a soft, creamy, sweet center. I would eat these little nuggets of joy every, single day for as long as I live if I could. Seriously. Ropa Vieja - This is a stew of beef brisket, tomatoes, olives, green peppers, and onions. It's less saucy than I anticipated, but I didn't mind. The tomatoes dominated the dish and I couldn't taste any olives, peppers, or other spices they used. The meat was tough and stringy, rather than the tender morsels I expected to find in a stew. A pretty disappointing dish overall. The entrees and mojitos are priced a little high for what you get. For $5, the mojito has only a touch of rum. For $11-12, you get a small bowl of tough beef and 3 small plantain/yuca/rice sides. After tax and tip, it's close to $20 and I really wasn't satisfied with what I got at the end of the meal. However, I do think that it would be a great place to grab lunch. The sandwiches, which we passed on, cost about $8-9 and comes with 1 side. If I ever find myself up in Marietta during lunch time, I just might swing in for a Cuban sandwich and a side of those heavenly maduros. read more

We visited this place as part of an ongoing series of alumni lunches. Cuban Diner is no exception to the tradition of excellence we've come to expect from these experiences. The menu is very traditionally Cuban. It's delicious and hearty. It's served by some very fast and friendly staff, sometimes even the owner himself (José?). I had the Palomilla Steak. A thin steak topped with grilled onions. Next to an order of black beans (made with a touch of sherry), this was a very tasty dish. BUT... My friend had the Bistec Empanizado. A thin, breaded piece of steak served with raw onions and parsley. That thing looked delicious, and it filled the entire plate. He ordered the winner. (This time.) I just realized I hadn't written a review for this place but I have been here at least a half-dozen times in the past month. If that's not enough of a thumbs up, I'm not sure what else I can do. The owners are working owners and they take a great deal of passion for what they do. Come early if you want the Mojito chicken because they often run out toward he end of the day. There are usually some open tables but almost every time we go, they are busy (but not too busy). He service is always friendly and quick. The pan con lechion is the best! I cannot get over how great the roast pork is. We had a party catered with a pretty big pan of this stuff and it was gone! If you like white fish, the pescado empanizado is delicious. I've visited this place many times! It's always a pleasure to experience. A little hole the wall but what's behind said wall is special. It's located in a shopping center so there's always spaces available for parking. The inside is comfortable and the staff is always crazy friendly. We took out order to go this time. I go my the Mojito Chicken fried style. It comes with 2 sides so I got fries and yellow rice. With a side of 2 empanadas. 1 chicken and 1 beef. The Mojito chicken is always delicious and crispy. You get 2 pieces that are enough to feed 2 people lol. The fries are tasty and combined with the yellow rice is so damn enjoyable. The empanadas are the best I've had ever. At least in GA lol. With this meal there will be leftovers so be ready to eat the next day lol. First, our waitress was hilarious, friendly, and helpful all rolled into one. While I already knew about Cuban food, it was fun to hear her go through the menu and explain the sides and the different meat dishes. I told her I heard they have delicious homemade mojo, so she brought us some cups of mojo and fried yuca to dip in it. The mojo is garlicky deliciousness! I had the Picadillo, maduros, and white rice. I ended up pouring the mojo over the rice and picadillo which made it quite tasty. Another person with me ordered the Cuban, which looked phenomenal and another person order the palomilla steak which also looked great. I want to go back so I can try the black beans, which someone at my table thought were the "best black beans he has tasted in a long time." I also want to try the pork! In terms of price, our total bill was just under $50 for 5 people to eat, which I thought was quite reasonable. There are really only two strategies you need to consider when deciding about Cuban Diner food: 1. grab your keys right now and get in your car, or 2. call first, then go pick up the food. If you aren't prepared to do either of those, there isn't a lot of hope for you. I've been fortunate to have some epic Cuban food in my life. EPIC.CUBAN. Cuban Diner is every bit as good as any I've ever had. Of itself, this *incredibly* interesting strip mall is very, VERY run down. This restaurant is magical, but the state of the building put's it on the verge of being a dive. That being said, most of us don't care... but I let you know in case you want to take your partner's incredibly uptight parents. In that case, definitely use option 2 above. Gluten free people: outside of a few items, Cuban food is largely gluten-free naturally. *Obviously* the cuban sammich is off the table.... but maybe, when I perfect my baguette, I'll take it to them and ask them to make me a sandwich. How is this place getting more than 2 stars? I'll tell you- because most people voting have ZERO reference of what Cuban Food is supposed to look like and taste like. They think what this place serves is how it's supposed to be, and just get used to a horrible insult of cuban food. I'm Cuban American born and raised in Miami- 'nuff said as for my judgment of Cuban Food. I ordered to-go, 2 entrees, (Bistec Empanizado) breaded steak, with plantains and yuca. Also ordered a steak sandwich. The breaded steak smelled, looked, and tasted like they threw it in the pin when the heat and oil wasn't up to where it needed to be, and the blood and juices must've soaked and bubbled and got absorbed into the breading, before the oil got hot enough to where it should be and was able to fry it. Not only that- it was soggy and the steak under the breading was a blueish-grey- almost white looking. Disgusting. The rice that came with that plate- either undercooked or cooked the day before because it was hard and grainy. When I opened the container, it was almost all one brick solidified. Not fresh. The plantains- come on! They are the easiest to do- get a fresh plantain banana, wait for it to ripen, cut slices freshly and put them straight to the frying pan. These tasted like they came out of a Goya box from the store. I don't pay for Cuban food to get food that I can buy just like them at Walmart from the frozen section, and be charged 5 times more!!! They were slimy and almost gelatin like on the outside and cold in the middle. Frozen food! As if that wasn't enough, I wanted to introduce a friend to their first taste of cuban food, and got the Steak Sandwich with plantains and yuca. That steak was rubbery and smelled like they bombarded it with seasoning to hide something bad- the smell and quality. Salty, chewy, but most disappointing, the cuban bread, a staple of this cuisine, was supposed to be toasted and it was soggy and chewy. You had to rip off the pieces hard with each bite- like when you use your teeth to open a ketchup packet. Horrible! This sandwich takes potato stick fries in it also- which makes it a super crunchy sandwich- and that's one of the joys of eating it- the cuban bread crunching and flaking, the potato sticks cracking and making each bite a mix of fresh tastes with that rustic baked texture. This was NOTHING like any of this. Where are your STANDARDS!? I paid $50 for just these 2 dishes, and instead of getting authentic cuban food, I got authentic trips to the bathroom to S**T this out with stomach aches that lasted until the next day! Their food IS NOT FRESH- and if they say it is, they are lying. No way that rice was fresh. The steaks, old and rotten almost, probably from sitting in freezers that dont' work correctly. The "cuban bread" old- chewy, soggy- fresh cuban bread stays crunchy after it is toasted almost 24 hours. I'll pay good money for great food, but this was literally flushing money down the drain. The plantains, 4 little individual ones, were $3.50. An entire box of the same quality Goya from the market cost $2.00!! And I will cook them way better than this place, trust me. 50.00 for food, that if I were to take that to Miami or Cuba, and show it to the poorest, most beat down, sketchy, and smallest of cuban food places, *they* would say a dog doesn't even deserve to eat this. The after taste left in my mouth is horrendous, and smell. Pure garlic and onions- like if I ate both those like an apple. For the record this is my 2nd time eating here. First time, not impressed either, but thought it was just a bad day. I ordered 2 sides of plantains on the side with cuban sandwich and skirt steak. Sandwich soggy, just like I mentioned above. Skirt steak was the only thing cooked sort of tasty, but got a medium well when I ordered medium rare. Still smelled over seasoned and a light under-smell on the meat that was not very pleasant. The plantains, the first time were not as soggy and had a nice dry outside with chewy gooey inside- but still clearly out of a box and frozen. It's robbery that they charge people over $3 just for 4 of them. So their standards CLEARLY aren't the best, but what's a concern is that they are not consistent and way low standards. I ordered this on a SATURDAY! Date food for a couple to enjoy, ruined with embarrassment and making excuses to my date why everything looks terrible, smells bad, and tastes even worse. A Saturday night!!!!! Come on. Close it down and don't open until you have an inspector, and a real restaurateur, and executive chef expert with cuban food show you how to do it! I CRINGE just thinking of what their fridge and prep food must look like. All you people giving them 4 and 5 stars, go to 3 or 4 other cuban places and get an average of the tastes and quality of Cuban dishes and cuisine. I'm amazed.. make sure to try the el Cubano and finish your dine with some cafe cubano and flan for the genuine and authentic experience. For any Florida transplants now living in the metro Atlanta area needing some way to satisfy a Cuban food craving, you absolutely should give Cuban Diner a visit. Furthermore, if you're a UGA grad and miss the Cuban food from Cali n Tito's, Cuban Diner is your place. Located in a strip mall not too far from the KSU Marietta campus, Marietta is so lucky to have such a great place for tasty Cuban food. Paid this place a visit on a Friday evening for dinner and it was a little bit busy, but we were able to get a table right away. It's not the largest or most elegant of dining areas, but it gets the job done. There are a variety of options on the menu, but we decided to go with the Mojito Chicken and the Lechon Asado. Each came with three sides and for 11 bucks and change for each, you're definitely a great a deal on food here. The Mojito Chicken can be fried or roasted, and decided to go with fried for Southern reasons. Decided to go with the yuca fries, moros (Cuban rice and beans), and maduros (fried sweet plantains). For the lechon asado, decided to go with the Cuban Diner style that has peppers and onions with it. For the sides, went with the tostones (fried green plantains), moros, and yuca con mojo (cassava with onions and mojo sauce). Don't sleep on the yuca con mojo, definitely one of the best sides you'll ever eat. Anyway, the food overall was absolutely delicious and I left just incredibly stuffed. The service here was very friendly and they made sure everything about our dinner was a great experience. After dinner, don't forget to get your Cuban coffee as well. After almost 2 years of living in Georgia & trying every Cuban restaurant we've come across, Cuban Diner is still our fave!!! Growing up in south Florida we know what authentic Cuban food is & this place is the real deal! Their dishes are delicious and the portions are perfect! Guess what?? There are no tacos or spicy dishes on the menu....that's how you know it's legit lol!! The owners are SO friendly & we love that no matter how much time has gone by they recognize us each time we come in - makes you feel like home! I took off one star because the place isn't the most attractive looking but I promise, if you look beyond that, you're in for one delicious meal!! We have also now catered 2 Christmas dinners from them too & if we're in Georgia this Christmas, chances are, we'll place a large dinner order yet again! read more

Traditionally I am not the biggest fan of Cuban food. This place opened my eyes to how good it actually was though. I had the fried half chicken with plantains, fries and rice. Absolutely delicious, and a great value. read more
