The hours for pickup from this vendor at Amuse Kitchen are very limited, only available in the late evening midweek. When I arrived, the doors were locked, but I rang the bell outside and was let in. My online order wasn't ready so I waited in the lobby where there were a few chairs set up. It was musty inside and slightly uncomfortable on this hot day, but at least the small space was clean and inviting. Even though my order wasn't ready till 10 minutes after my pickup time, staff was warm and friendly in our brief interactions on site, so I wasn't disappointed with the service. I tried four different empanadas from their menu. The mushroom, ham & cheese, and deep fried cheesy empanadas were super tasty, made fresh with quality ingredients, lots of flavor packed into a flaky shell, it's hard to pick a fave among these three. The deep fried beef empanada was my least favorite, the consistency was off, and I'm not even sure it was properly prepared or cooked all the way, as it was slightly cold, barely lukewarm, in the middle. The milder of their two sauces (huacatay) was indeed mild, lacking in any spice at all, it really didn't taste like anything to me. Luckily, the empanadas were good without it. We were very excited for empanadas, especially Peruvian ones! My sweetie and I are big on Peruvian food. The empanadas were solid. We purchased (2) classic beef, (2) mushroom, and split the Aji de Gallina. Stars off for: -They have weird hours, open only after 7. So no lunch hours, and tbh not very convenient for dinner. -Aji de Gallina and Mushroom was dry, especially Aji -Order didn't come with any sauce! We were super excited for the sauces. I ended up making my own sauce at home with aji amarillo paste and Kewpie mayo. -a bit expensive. What immediately impressed me was the sheer size and heft of the empanada. It really is HUGE compared to most any other empanada I have ever had in my life. As a veggie/mushroom lover, I couldn't pass up the chance to try the Mushroom empanada - and boy am I glad I did! It was love at first bite! I enjoyed my empanada standing under a tree at the Hayward (CA) Farmer's market. First bite, first impression: An uncontrollable smile, followed by my arms stretched out to my sides and my face up to the sky! I was in food heaven, so happy and so grateful to be able to enjoy this amazing food in the palm of my hand! This empanada was impressively and perfectly STUFFED with 5 different types of mushrooms, mixed with a flawless ratio of bell peppers, onions and delicious seasonings (yum!). My wife and I stopped by CTKempanadas while we were visiting the Irvington Farmers' Market on a Sunday afternoon. We passed by the booth a little before lunch and there was no lines, so we were able to quickly place our order and receive our food. We shared one of their beef empanadas and I thought it was very well made. The outside had a flakey crust, the inside beef filling was piping hot and well-seasoned, and I really liked the side of sauce that's provided. There are two options for sauces: a huacatay sauce, which is supposed to be their more mild option, and their rocoto sauce, their extra spicy option. During my visit, I noticied a flyer on their booth announcing that they're having a grand opening for a San Francisco location in the market on Market. We tried these empanadas several times at farmers markets in Livermore and Hayward, and they were great. Always fresh and warm, with a variety of fillings. We like almost all of them, especially the beef, though others like chicken, pork, ham, mushrooms, chorizo, and apples are also very good. We also tried their cakes, which were wonderful! I pretty much went to the Irvington Farmer's market for the first time just to check it out, and it did not disappointment! Unfortunately, a lot of flavors were sold out when I arrived. Fortunately, they still had mushroom WITHOUT cheese, and it had one of the best crusts I've had for an empanada! The flavors are all on point and each empanada is perfectly packed with enough stuffing :) My favorites are the chorizo, potato, and of course the mushroom!!!
