GO CUBS!!!! I love taking the Red Line train going north to Addison as all fans of Chicago Cubs.

If this were any other station, it would be getting much higher marks. Unfortunately, given its location, it has a fatal flaw. More on that later. Addison is accessible, has ample digital signage, and is easy to navigate. It is also wider than average for an 'L' station and is relatively clean, especially given how many people pass through. This amount of foot traffic is, however, its undoing. When there's a Cubs game or another event at Wrigley, Addison proves to be ill-equipped for the sheer volume of people. Yes, there is staff present to help manage crowds, but a packed platform is suboptimal for multiple reasons, especially safety. I appreciate that due to the CTA's setup, one cannot simply wish a wider station into existence. It may be possible, but it would be extraordinarily capital-intensive. That said, CTA-Addison gets the job done very well outside of Wrigley events, and passably during them. read more

I boarded the redline at Addison for year and years to get downtown for my previous job, so this review is long overdue. This train stop is very well kept, and I'm sure it's location to Wrigley Field has a lot to do with that. There are two escalators (granted -- one is usually down), an elevator, and a HUGE platform so there is plenty of space to spread out. There is a woman who works here every morning who is as sweet as can be and always greets us regulars with a smile. The redline is not always the safest of trains, but it sure can get you downtown faster than the brown! If you're in town exploring the city or going to a Cubs game, nothing is more convenient than hopping off at Addison as the stop just steps from the field. If you live in the neighborhood, this can definitely be a downside. On game nights, the streets are flooded with fans and vendors. The trains from downtown back up to Wrigley are packed with fans going to the games in addition to the regulars heading home from work. It can definitely add some extra time getting home, which is something to keep in mind during the summer months. Overall, I always feel safe at this stop, the employees are friendly, it's well maintained, and the trains are *usually* on time! read more

Very convenient and easy to take to North Halstead and only takes about 20 min or so. Train appears to be well kept but the station itself is a little dirty and doesn't appear any CTA employees around to maintain it. I didn't feel unsafe nor many "creepers" around. This is the El station closest to my apartment, so I've used it alot. Yeah theres an oldtimer handing out copies of the Red Eye. A couple times he has ignored me to hand out copies to other peeps first but since he's missing teeth and talks with an old dialect I wasn't as miffed as first cuz I realized he might be slow. Besides he's doing me a service. The lady who usually works the station turn siles/attendant shes heavy and mid thirties brunette, is usually engaged in personal convos with people, or other cta people. I don't give a damn but one day I was super late cuz the 135 bus wasn't running and the card machine ate my money so I asked for help and she was too busy flirting or whatever with some dork, and I missed my train. whatever it's my fault for thinking the 135 bus would run on that icy-dang day so I was late already. Off topic, yeah cubs games are a bizzle here. be prepared! It gets you to and from the game. That's really the only good thing I have to say. Otherwise it is hot, smelly, and crowded. The staff are not very friendly, nor helpful. The ticket machines are not very efficient, nor easy to use. read more

This is the stop for the Cubbies. You want to use this exit off the train if you are going to the game. It drops you off right at the stadium basically and affords a decent ride home afterwards. Be warned though, it can get VERY crowded and is certainly standing room only on game days. read more

Quick and easy stop - a block from Wrigley Field. $2.25 fare one way, purchase tickets downstairs - platform is outside upstairs. Rode the red line to the Chicago stop - quick and easy, was there in less than 15 minutes and puts you right out in one of the best parts of town near Mag Mile. read more

***It can be a very crowded train to get to this station when the Cubs play, but the station lets right out to Wrigley Field (an inexpensive, convenient, easy, and relatively no hassle way to get to a Cubs game)*** I am not sure what the parking situation is, but I imagine it is difficult to find parking (especially when the Cubs play). read more

Trains come very regularly. Unfortunately, the only downside is that the stops are delayed and/or very busy around Cubs games. There's a lot of traffic for people coming for the baseball games. read more

Aside from the obvious complaints relating to Cubs games, this is one of my favorite L stops. It's almost always clean and the woman who works weekday mornings in the kiosk is very polite. If it's ever too crowded, I just walk up to/get off at Sheridan. But what's with the Red Eye guy? Am I the only one who thinks he looks like Dennis Leary's surlier older brother? I bet he gives out more of those things than anyone in the city. read more

Huge bottleneck for the Red Line being next to Wrigley Field: a blessing for the public but a curse to those who are trying to live their lives and go to/from work without being squashed to death by obese beer/hot dog gogglers or post-game piss drunk stinking idiots. Smooth riding once you get north past this stop. A bit of a dated station with narrow stairs/escalators going up/down that really slows down a large fat crowd. read more

Are you telling me we honestly can't afford heat lamps up here? This is ridiculous. This is a 5 star in the Summer time, and the best Stop in Chicago. I'm sure my friends to the south in Lincoln Park would argue this and pimp Fullerton as THE stop on the Northside, but it's clearly amongst the elite of the elite stops. The problem is, this ONLY applies April through October, while the rest of the time it is about as appealing at the 35th St Red Line Stop on the Southside (excuse me temporarily while I sprint over here to the garbage can). Today as I stand up here in medical peril potentially losing a finger or two with these winds nipping at them, I cannot let the CTA off the hook on this, & they will pay the penalty of a dreaded one star rating. It is beyond miserable up here in the dead of winter, open, exposed, nothing but dudes up and down the platform without a Lovely in sight. It's fairly safe to say I am in Purgatory right now. Residents know the CTA needs a complete overhaul. I don't care how many billions it costs, our pols need to get this done. First place we can start is with heat lamps at the Addison stop. It looked like they may have been there (or still are), but they aren't functioning. Now how surprising is that? Hopefully Obama can push through a CTA stimulus package for his hometown. perfect place to get your water and peanuts for the game, cause you know you're allowed to bring stuff into Wrigley as long as it's not already open and it's definitely cheaper than the $5 bottle of water or whatever it now costs inside. Please note, due to high traffic times, the escalators are not on. Also, the elevator door will not open if you try to squeeze too many people. It'll go up to the platform but man, is it scary that you're up there and doors won't open. It's ok, just take the stairs, we all can use the exercise. read more

I chose to live by this stop for a reason, and it serves its purpose. Honestly, the location can't be beat, and it's certainly clean and pretty modern. However, I wish that both sides of the street had an entrance/exit, because during Cubs games the whole station gets CROWDED and congested. Maybe I'm only suggesting that because I live on the other side of the street and hate crossing the street in the mornings to book it across traffic and make my train, buuuuut... it would certainly be helpful if they redid the stop with an entrance on the other side of the street. However, I understand that they don't have the time because games start immediately after the bad weather ceases. :/ Sigh. In my dreams. But really, this stop is great. The vendor who runs the shop has pretty great prices on his stuff and there's a Chase ATM there-- it has it all. read more

I won't talk about Wrigley since that's what 50% of the reviews about and how to be prepared when you're boarding before/after game time but this stop has a lot of beautiful surroundings as well and tourists traps that are always fun to check out. read more

Nothing fills me with more pride on my choice of places to live than when I get up on the platform in the morning hours and look out over my magazine I'm reading and see Wrigley Field. I also am prideful when a child steps off the train and has that feeling of 'Daddy, you can see Wrigley from here!'. My thought is "I *live* here". There's nothing better than that. The Addison Red Line stop is one of the better stops. In the rush hour everyone does their thing, they don't stand on the escalator. We have it down like a well oiled machine. The only bad times are when a Howard train pulls up and a hoard of school children get off and take up all 4 of the turnstiles to get to the 152 bus. Or Cubs games. It's part of the package. I put my patience face on when the game's about to start and think "well at least they're not drunk Cubs fans" and when the game just let out and I'm getting off the train I have fun with the drunk Cubs fans. They're not going to remember it anyways! The Red Eye guy although a bit odd looking is dedicated to his job making sure everyone gets their piece of crap paper and the nice lady at the turnstiles telling me every day good morning. It makes for a good commute overall. I just love that my stop says Cubs. Although I do loathe tourists. Can't have everything I suppose! read more

Given the amount of traffic that this stop sees, I'd have to say I'm impressed with the way the CTA handles things--which believe me is incredibly rare. And to you people that complain about the Cubs fans at this stop, Wrigley Field has been the home of the Cubs since 1916. Addison is probably one of my favorite CTA stations. It's perfectly adjoined across the street from Wrigley Field, so despite the multiple handfuls of people that come on and off the Red line on game day, there's no fuss or burden about getting to where you need to at this station. Well unless you have a pet peeve of slow paced pedestrians. For a 'L' station, it's nicely kept, and if it's been on your mind, I think there are custodians at this stop but don't quote me. The surroundings is non-concerning. Great cubby shops, fantastic delicious pubs and pizza places, and when it's post and pre-season, it's quiet and easy going. The incoming and outgoing trains come at decent pace, typically every 5 minutes, so it doesn't feel like an eternity for an impatient person. Well lit at night, and well watched by security. This is my El stop, and as far as the red line goes, the Addison station is nicer than many. It's clean with TV screens alerting riders of when the next train will arrive. The biggest negative and worthy of a two star deduction: I had a broken leg and had to use the elevator for awhile. It smells like urine, ALWAYS. read more

The Addison Red Line is currently the closest stop to my apartment. This is one of the better stops in my opinion. It's relatively clean, has been recently renovated & the escalators and elevators are usually working. Of course its gets really crowded before and after games (I avoid the station all together on cubs games, and I used the Southport Brown Line stop a few block south and west. A convenience shop in the station is nice for little things like newspaper or drinks, and multiple Chase ATMS are also very nice. This station also has a few little perks that many other larger stations don't have. The PA system which announces when a inbound or outbound trains is approaching, and a lot of flat screen TVs on both sides of the platform which displays how many minutes until the next train arrives. This is supposed to be one of the nicer stations but I say "nicer" very delicately. To be honest I think it's general appearance is left to be desired. In comparison to neighboring Sheridan, it's worlds nicer but compared to Belmont, it's pretty drab. Overall it's similar to the box style stations of the time and just slightly different than the rest of the stations on the redline north. It's platforms are wider, it's station house usually has good enough space, the location is top of the mark and although there are some strange characters around at times, it's not a complete shit show. Well except on weekends or during the Cubs games where it serves it's purpose as a depot for transporting the belligerently intoxicated while the rest of the residents there get to watch which during those times it's best avoided. read more

its a good stop its where you get off to go to cubs games and its my home sop. when its not baseball season its never busy, if you need the brown line you can walk to Belmont or just take the Dan Ryan red line one stop. the only downside i have it i take it take 5 am on Sundays for work and i i miss one train it takes like 30 minutes or so for the next one. but it's 10 or 15 minutes any other time. read more

This place is on my way to work as I take the Addison Red Line. Clean Store. They have a great selection of juices, cofee, sodas and snacks all priced very resonable. They have the daily papers to read, and also a wide range of tobacco behind the counter. On game days they have great deals on peanuts, pistachio's and other foods to take to the game or home for that matter while watching the game. The guy working there is great. I've left my wallte a couple of time and he let me pay him the next day. Its always nice to walk into a place where your recognized and valued. Over all a great place, plus its at my favortie Red Line Stop! read more
