I've given plasma here for the last 3.5 months at more than one CSL center, and this one is by far the cleanest and least busy. No, that doesn't mean that you'll always be in and out of there within an hour, but it is a very nice and safe center. For first time donors, you get $270 for your first four visits (all together) and $23-$43 for each subsequent visit depending on your body weight. Even though I was in the lowest weight bracket, I still earned an easy $60 a week of spending cash, which is on a prepaid VISA debit card. Your experience heavily depends on WHEN you go. I have found that they are busiest on Tuesdays, Sundays, and Thursdays in the mid-morning to afternoon. If you happen to donate within that time-frame, expect some waiting. The longest I have waited to donate is about 35 minutes. As a note, you cannot donate plasma ANYWHERE without being patient. Whether it's in line for the kiosk, vitals station, or donation room, you will definitely wait. The staff, like all people, have their on and off days. Most of the time they are attentive and do their jobs correctly. I have only gotten hematoma (bruises on arms) once or twice and stuck with the needle in the wrong vein maybe once (I can't blame them; my veins are very narrow). If you are patient and kind, they will reciprocate that, and don't be afraid to start a conversation with them! They won't hesitate to chat with you and will give you water/advice in a heartbeat if asked. read more

My total experience is one that has been the most demeaningful thing I've ever done at 57 years old. I can honestly say I was a bit drowsy goin there, so instead of lifting me up and boosting the spirit of donating, I was basically scrutinized against from these horrible people they claim to be human. Animals have better treatment. There could have been a more pleasant response other then to defer me or ban me for a year. Waiting in line for hours is just completely insane for 45 dollars lately yall have been extremely slow less workers now so it takes longer to even donate now like honestly I might switch to a better donation center bay road yall gotta do better have my legs and back hurting standing for hours been standing in line since 230pm and its 409. How is it that CSL do not take viles of blood for testing and making sure aides is not passed threw donors? Also no testing is done threw blood to make sure all levels are up to part to donate as being healthy. Every donor center does collect blood for testing why is CLS exempt? read more

Two years later and this continues to be my most FAVORITE side gig ever!! The staff is pretty great, slow at times, but nonetheless competent. CSL sometimes changes the amounts they pay per week, which kind of sucks, but it's been back up the past couple of months. When I first started we were getting $90/week... We're up to $86/week... They still give bonuses for consistent donations too! For example, today is my 8th donation for the month, and I'll get a $75 bonus on top of my regular $43. Staff is incompetent and rude. Was told false info on what documents to bring, brought what I was told by another employee, and they refused to see me due to a EMPLOYEES mess up. Instead of seeing what she could do for me over a ADDRESS issue that I proved not once but twice, she denied me and that was that. But would see someone else w out proof of their social security card.. denied me though bc a lil bit of my address was rubbed off on my license.. AND I brought the exact additional proof I was told to. Comical. Real organized establishment they have LOL. Girls up front were swearing, one girl forgot about me when i signed up. She left me in a room for 20 minutes after saying she'll be right back. Another one of the girls had to get me. And then when it was time for donation, Tammy proceeded to lift her visor and wipe her nose with the back of her GLOVED hand. Then she stuck my left arm, didnt get my vein, and the employee next to her looked over when i started protesting in pain. He said to her "you dont even have her cuff pumped all the way up" and instead of taking the needle out immediately and doing my other arm, she dug the needle around under my skin. Still didnt get it so she did the right side. It bruised badly. The girl in medical was very nice though, and this location is about 10x less disgusting than the roseville location. Loved going here all this time, great clean and friendly staff, more locations than Biolife so not NEARLY the wait. Right now you get 900 for your first donations, then after they have it where you get 50 per donation. Much better payout than Biolife and I can see this being a permanent extra 400 a month in my account. Staff are so competent and nice, I've had many interactions with HANK, the main man. I really enjoyed being a donor at CSL Plasma in Sterling Heights. Not only getting paid for my plasma but especially knowing I was helping others. Well, I feel obligated to warn current donors and future donors about a situation. If you get a hepatitis B vaccine (which are being highly recommended due to the current spread of hepatitis) like I did you will be deferred for 4 weeks! If you make the terrible mistake I made and forget to tell CSL you will be deferred for LIFE!!! I was a platinum donor and donated for well over 2 years w/no issues. I really enjoyed seeing the staff twice a week and giving my donation. I actually got to know most of their names and really enjoyed interacting w/them during my donations as well! Really great professional staff at CSL and I feel bad for them as they are always under staffed it seems. Not sure why they wouldn't have hire enough staff for such an important thing as donating plasma, dealing with needles, blood and a persons well being during the process??? So unfortunately for me after getting the Hep B vaccine & then donating my plasma I was called and told (& sent a FEDEX letter from CSL) that I tested positive for Hep B (because of the vaccine I received) and I was now being deferred from donating plasma for L-I-F-E! Even though that information was incorrect and I am healthy individual and do not have Hepatitis B, because of the vaccine I received the tests that CSL labs do on the plasma showed a positive Hep B markers on my plasma. Now they will never let me come back to donate. I called several times and visited w/CSL management and they could, but more importantly to me, would do nothing for me. Not only can I not donate plasma, I cannot donate blood either as they report you to the National Donor Deferral Registry. I was shocked by all of this. I thought I was doing something positive for my health while doing something positive for others, donating plasma and for my mistake in not notifying CSL they have banned me for life! Something need to change with their policy making. CSL management needs to step up and stick up for their donors and have this policy corrected. All I wanted to do is get their help and have a blood test done to prove my blood was good and I did not have Hep B and CSL was virtually zero help to me and told me to contact the NDDR. Very disappointed in CSL and thought they would be more helpful in getting me reinstated or getting an appeal process started for me with the NDDR so I could again donate plasma. Don't make the mistake I made! I understand the Hep B vaccine is probably a good precautionary vaccine but it doesn't seem that the medical industry cares enough to notify patients that it could cause them grief if they receive it and then try to donate plasma or blood. Something needs to change with the way they test for Hepatitis. A vaccine given to someone should not cause you to test positive for Hepatitis when you are a perfectly healthy individual. Very frustrated with this whole situation and at the very least I hope others read this and do not make the mistake I made. read more

Hardly ever a wait here! It gets a little busy at the end of the day when everyone and their mother is getting off work, so a line is expected then but that's really the only time I've had to wait a bit. I've never waited longer than 10 minutes to get assigned to a bed. Regardless, $50 to lay in a chair and play on my phone sounds like a good deal to me. I've gone to other centers where the wait was 3 hours long. I'll take Sterling Heights any day. I miss the phleb Melissa, though. She was always super nice, even to the donors who act rude and entitled. read more

Super slow moving workers even when they're not busy you should plan for at least 1.5 hours of waiting + donating before u leave. Telling managers doesn't change much. Never busy and I see why. I am searching for CSL donation centers that are far away so that I can have some people who pretend to like their jobs a little. read more
