We sat in the waiting room and waited for staff member, when approached, gave our names, my daughter for blood, myself for PowerRed. I asked the man about giving platelets instead because they had a sign up for platelet donations. He said both machines were occupied, I asked how soon would they be ready one hour on one machine the other 2 hours as they are just getting started. I asked about our appt times he said the blood was OK but my PowerRed the machines are tied up. I asked why then was I given an 11:30 appt if the machines were booked? He deferred me to a woman staff, who approached me at the desk saying I am early. I said yes, but will the machine be ready at 11:30? Again she told I was early and I would have to wait. I asked how long she would not give me a time. So I referred to the hour left on one machine, then sterilizing the machine before I could get on the machine, then I start the 2 hour procedure, throw I travel time it's 4 and half hours out of my day? I asked WHY was I given the appointment if the machine would not be ready? She walked away, and so did we. Came home and wrote an email to the powers to be at Vitalant about my experience. One would think if you make an appointment you would be taken care of within 10 to 15 minutes of that appointment time, is that too much to ask? I do not think so. To add even more disrespect the attitude of the woman was far from professional and respectful that you can get. Years ago Lifesource was in this location, and I was one of their regular donors, giving platelets, usually a double when I stayed on the machine an extra 15 minutes, then I would return 2 weeks later and give whole blood, and make my next appt for giving platelets again. I did this for years and at this location. Unfortunately I had to stop as I needed 4 shoulder surgeries and needed my own blood/platelets now I want to give regularly and have to put up with snarky, dismissive and disrespectful employees. WHAT HAPPENED? WHY do they insist on you making a scheduled appointment and then NOT HONOR that appointment? WHAT is wrong with this picture? Incidentally Vitalant I am a UNIVERSAL DONOR O Negative and my adult daughter is O Positive, boy did you guys miss out! (I also in my conversation with the disrespectful employee mentioned we are O- and O+, it didn't faze her ar all) UPDATE: Since posting my initial review above, the so called Owner/Manager responded to me below. He said the right things, (see below) but if he REALLY WANTED to get to the bottom and fix the problem wouldn't he have tried to call me directly? Or email me directly? They have all that info that was provided in order to schedule the appointment that they did not honor. Just another person in charge giving LIP SERVICE BUT NO RESOLUTION! Great way to do business!

I've been ill and decided to get tested for Covid-19 today. They had lines for people who were in…read morecars and for those who were not. I had to wait in the car line, which probably took much longer than the other line, but I had no choice. On first arrival, I was confused on where to enter the line and accidentally turned into the test site from the adjacent alley. They were about to let me go through as if I had waited my turn until I told them that I didn't know where to go. The healthcare worker I spoke with calmly told me where I needed to go. I was impressed because I know that if that were me I might be a little tense and impatient. The car line took about 3-3.5 hours to get through. It might seem like a super long wait time, but I don't think I could've had any better or faster of an experience. It's the only free test site I know of that doesn't require some sort of permission from your GP. And when I say "free", I mean they don't ask for or charge your insurance company. It's a great resource for the city, especially the neighborhood the hospital is located in. I tried getting tested at a couple other sites (one of which employs many of my regular doctors), but the instructions on their websites were vague. When I tried to call their lines were completely busy or their voicemail was full. So I'd like to thank (with all my heart!) the Loretto employees who are providing this service in the most convenient way possible. They truly made it as smooth as possible. I would've waited in that line for another three hours if I had to!

If you don't like your job then don't work there, you're the only miserable one there. I don't appreciate respectfully asking a question to be met with an attitude and eye rolling. That is not professional and I thought it would be the tone of the staff since it was the first person I spoke to for my family member admitted in. Luckily I spoke to other staff who were the exact opposite. Everyone else was helpful and thoughtful, I spoke to them the same way because I didn't want my bad experience with the asian nurse to affect my attitude to the other staff who didn't disrespect me for a question. Not sure what they did to that asian nurse or if she's just like that, because everyone else met me with kindness and consideration for simple question that I even asked if they didn't know the answer if I could get help on who to ask instead. There's no need to be snobby for not knowing the answer to my question, I get it I am very understanding and have common sense that not every staff member would know. Actually, there was 2 other staff members I spoke to and they said they didn't know either and apologized, their attitude was much more kind and I told them it was okay because it's okay to not know! They were kind and respectful so I was too, the last person I asked since my family member was in pain seemed to be a doctor and was super helpful. Very kind and found the answer for me even if he didn't know, I appreciate him going beyond despite not knowing and I didn't expect that I was going to give up on finding my answer. He was tall, pale, and had facial hair, thank you for your help! Shout out to the med-student who did amazing and was very kind in answering questions while being very detailed. He's going to be great in the field as he already is amazing! The wait time is awhile, ~20-30 minutes in the emergency department which is a bit concerning including another ~20-30 minutes one you have a room. Regardless of the wait, the med-student who has glasses, tanner skin, and skinny made me feel so comfortable that my family member was in safe hands. Despite minor language barrier, the solution finding was stellar! Truly hope the best for his career. Everyone else who helped my family member was super kind and respectful. There is always a spoiled apple in a batch, but that spoiled apple nurse doesn't represent the rest of the amazing staff.

I never write Yelp reviews but recently used Yelp to choose a dentist so now I figure I must pay it…read moreforward. This place is GREAT. There is almost no wait--they are very prompt. They have a great computer system that communicates everything to everyone so everyone knows what is going on with your history and needs. I see Dr. Paul Kungl and he is honestly the best doctor I have ever had. He is a kind and attentive listener and knows what he is talking about. He has never steered me in the wrong direction and is very honest.

I was mostly worried about parking in this area but they do have some parking just west of the facility, across Leavitt. You enter that lot lot Harrison. Much/most/all of the street along Leavitt is 30 minute parking only which could work if you have an appointment here to donate blood, depending upon how long the appointments are. The course was good. It lasted about two and a half hours or so and began with adult CPR and choking techniques, from which the child and infant techniques are derived so you learn those modifications toward the end of the course. There were a couple people here who didn't need/want the child instruction so they were able to leave during the break. Due to the pandemic, they assign two people to a dummy instead of three as they used to, but they do partner you up if you're alone to ensure that you have someone observing to make sure you're getting the techniques correct. The course is a certification course, and I received my certification card later that same day (Saturday).

Can't say enough good things about my experiences donating blood with the Red Cross. It had been…read morequite a few years since I donated, but I decided to pick it back up regularly last year during COVID. I have donated at a variety of locations and drives in the city, and each time has been so great. The staff are always so friendly and welcoming. They make you feel comfortable since it can be a scary thing if you don't like blood! At today's drive, Jose was so incredibly friendly and explained everything very clearly, which I imagine would be so helpful for a first time donor. They also offer flexible appointments and a variety of locations for convenience. I highly recommend the app as well-- so easy!
