Ok so late review on this. I have been going here since April of 2021 twice a week and I have only good things to say. The staff remembers you and very friendly and knowledgeable and engage with you while donating. I go super early when they open and my time is usually from an hour to 2 hours so make sure you have the time. I have waited sometimes in line for close to an hour before donating but that doesn't bother me and the ones complaining about that I don't understand. I make $55 per donation and very happy my donation helps 2 people who need plasma. read more

I've been a donor in the Kalamazoo area for 38 years. I know there is a labor problem but DAMN 1 1/2 hour wait just to get screened then another hour wait to get stuck. When you see managers standing at the counter bsing there's a problem. The last manager had some class and would try and fix a problem,the new manager is a total snowflake. The female phlebotomist they have are mostly awesome. The guys suck terrible. I'll go back to Biomat. At least there they treat donors better. CSL is a crap hole. read more

Place sucks, staff are extremely slow and decide when they wanna work, don't really care about your valuable time, will send you to medical over any little small thing, doctors are a bunch of pricks, and you have to deal with all of this to get your regular donation amount of $30. The donation has minimal pain. There are friendly techs and a spacious waiting room. It is Inam easy drive single yellow line drive and parking area. It is a healthy donation lab with great employees. There are some funny ones at that. I will return. read more

There aren't a lot of recent reviews for this center, and I feel as if the current rating isn't accurate. The staff at CSL in portage is very friendly and happy to be working. I have donated multiple times and I've never had any issues. I've always felt safe and in good hands well at CSL. This is definitely worth the money and I will continue to come back. read more

Okay, so I've been donating here for the last two years, almost three, and I've never had a bad experience... with certain staff let me add. Today, I donated, was fine until I got to the donating floor. I got to my station, got my arm ready with my sweater and everything. However, I was not acknowledged for 15-20 minutes, I understand there's people finishing and starting before me, and there's such thing as short staffed, I work in a customer service field, I get it. But to not even be acknowledged, literally anything could've been said, like "we'll be right with you" I'm not even asking for an apology. That's not the worst thing though, I had a certain staff member, (I'm not throwing her name out there, I will say, I am never letting her work on my arm again) who barely said anything to me, and then as she proceeded i set up the station, she felt my left arm for the vein. She had an issue finding it. Which is weird to me because I've always used the same vein on my LEFT arm for EVERY donation, blood and plasma for five years straight. BUT she was having so much trouble finding it properly that instead of asking for someone to take a look (it has happened one other time where someone else had to take over) she shoves the needle through! The pinch that is usually there goes away almost instantly, but today it stayed for a bit and she's continuing to mess with it, trying to fix the needle whatever and I try to not to look while they do this, but I couldn't help but look over when she said "UH-OH" like.. excuse me, WHAT DO YOU MEAN UH-OH? I look over and the needle is making a HUGE (bigger than normal) bump through my skin, AND THEN she calls for help as I'm in pain... After all that, I didn't get acknowledgment of their lack of effort and skill at their JOB... instead I got ignored and when I finished filling up my bottle, I got ignored for about 15 minutes to where someone else donating told me to raise my hand 2 separate times and then she even said something!! Like what? Anyways, I will attach a picture of my arm from within the hour of donating, as of right now the bruising is definitely increasing in size and is getting darker, my arm is in much more pain then usual. I will say, I have never had a bad experience at this location, I have been donating here for 2-3 years like I said, and it's a simple process, if there is caring staff who genuinely care and do their jobs properly. I couldn't donate plasma today but that's not a problem, because i'm never stepping foot back in there. Earlier today my boyfriend and I went to CSL in Portage as first time donors, and we were not happy when we walked out. we waited around for like 3 hours, which is a typical wait time for first timers but the fact that we waited all that time just to not donate was so stupid. So basically we wasted our time there. But here's the kicker: The thing about this place that pissed me off so much was their service. there was only one nurse there and she kept letting us know that "i'm the only nurse here tonight" okay, we got it the first time. that and she was downright rude to my boyfriend. also i have a nickel allergy which i put on my medical questionnaire. this was the nurse's statement: "When we first started, when a donor had a nickel allergy we'd defer them because our needles are 100% nickel. that needle is in your vein going directly into your heart which can cause it to stop. but, since you only experience redness and irritation, i'm gonna clear you for donation" i was talking to a nurse, right? the same nurse that cleared me for donation despite my nickel allergy and the fact that me donating could kill me? i'm also gonna throw in the fact that i have 5 tattoos and each shop i've been to does not use nickel-based needles because of the allergen. so why would a plasma donation center of all places use nickel based needles? i wish i could leave -7483929 stars. read more

Place is so picky. They send you to medical for any little thing. They stick you then move it in and out and you wander why you get a bruise. Then they have to send you to medical. This place is a joke. They let me sit there for 2 1/2 hours just to tell me to come back tomorrow. I understand that they have to follow regulations and that there is zero wiggle room. My boyfriend and I broke up four months ago- and apparently it has to be four months and a day- fine. At no point during the process did anyone bother to tell me this. Not when I called and asked about donating restrictions (18 years ago I tired to give blood at the Red Cross and this was an issue then- so I specifically asked this question). Not when I took the written exam and they asked if I had EVER been in a same sex relationship (which I didn't lie. EVER could have been 20 years ago). The nurse went over my survey with me and told me it wasn't an issue because of the length of time- then after waiting OVER AN HOUR for the doctor- she tells me that yes it's an issue if it's within the last four months (which I don't know how that isn't discrimination- but it is supposedly a federal law so please believe that will be the next place I check) and even though it has been EXACTLY FOUR MONTHS it has to be four months and a day. Thank you for wasting 2 1/2 hours of my life on a Sunday which is the one day a week I get off atm because of all the shortages everywhere- as a business that is unacceptable. I feel like the decent thing to do is let people know up front what makes them ineligible and then if they decide to sneak through the system then that's on them. I wasn't even given that level of respect. I will defiantly donate tomorrow- but there is no way I will ever be back to CSL. read more

I've been going to this center since June and the money is alright, but the center seems to be run poorly. It's almost not worth going after 2 pm because you'll be stuck there for 3-4 hours with one person in the screening booths and a around 4 on the floor. You're stuck waiting in line the majority of the time. They'll have people backed up to the doors, but will only have 3-6 people on the chairs at one time despite having about 30 chairs. This has been a problem even when they are fully staffed (which they seem to be most of the time I go in). The staff won't talk to anyone as to why. Sometimes they'll only have one person in the screening booths while the rest run around doing minor stocking duties so they can leave. Most of the people who work here are very nice, but this place could run way more efficiently. I just read an article about how hospitals are struggling to keep up supplies for blood and plasma, but when centers are run like this, it's easy to see why they are struggling to get and retain donors. Donating plasma shouldn't take as many hours as a part time job. read more

If I could give a negative 5 star I would. I went to the Portage location on mall drive 4 times before finally being able to donate. After 3 hours of tests, physical exams, and basically being ignored by everyone in sight, I finally get back to the donation room. They they tell me they are gonna run my machine at 60% instead of 100%, so it might take a little over an hour. An hour passes, I finish filling the bottle and I raise my hand when the machine says finished and goes to sleep mode. They keep looking at me, but ignoring me for 15 straight minutes. I get the managers attention, he says they heard the machine beeps and will be right there. Another 15 minutes pass, I get sick of being ignored, and my arm is starting to hurt from the huge needle that's been in me for an hour and a half by now. So, I sit up now, but still keep my arm straight. They demand me to lay back down. They finally give me some attention by yelling and disrespecting me, telling me to lay down and shut up and not to bend my arm. I say, I didnt bend it, just trying to get your help/attention. She flat up calls me a liar and walked away. After another 10 minutes, I got upset and decided to show myself out. I had to remove my own needle, arm cuff, and bandage myself up. They were mad but who cares. Manager says I'm fine and that he apologizes. Says I'm still welcome there. Then he calls me today, (day after) and says he was just trying to be nice because I was going though some unfair treatment by his staff, but now says I'm not allowed there ever again. He told me he lied to keep me calm.. so I highly recommend you avoid this location u less you want an infection in your arm. Go to biomat downtown kzoo. They pay double anyways. AMD they are a lot nicer. They are the way to go. Hope this helps. This place is pretty good compared to the other location in town as well as the only other company in town for donating. I usually get a friendly staff member and an employee named Chris gave me the most unpainful stick I've ever experienced! I will definitely be returning when he is present to donate plasma comfortably. It seems clean and I enjoy the experience much more than I have at the BPL Yale location, which was traumatizing to say the least. The employees stand around and laugh about "how slow we're moving" rather than making an attempt to move more proficiently. Staff work extremely slow. Especially doing vitals. The girl working in booth number 3 right now is the worst. She talks so much it takes 8 + minutes to do one person. How do I know? I am stuck in line waiting so I started timing the vitals staff. The best workers can do it in less than 3 minutes and are still very friendly.
