The injections were rough, I had significant swelling and bruising around my lips, and I was given no aftercare instructions. My lips went back to their original size within a month. When I called, I was told I needed a second syringe and that this had supposedly been discussed during my visit. I went back, and instead of addressing why the filler didn't last, she tried to sell me a third syringe, commenting that my smile was "very wide." Once again, the results faded within a month. In February 2026, I went to a different injector (BRN, RN). She was thorough, gentle, and professional. She couldn't even feel any prior filler in my lips. I received one syringe, had no bruising, minimal swelling, and loved the results. The difference in skill and professionalism was night and day. Based on my experience, I would not recommend this provider.

Despite expressing discomfort and obvious anxiety stemming from the intense physical pain of my initial procedure with Rachel (which makes me sweat just thinking back to it), both Rachel and Rhonda flat-out refused to let me switch providers for the second treatment. I finally received approval to switch and booked the appointment, only to be told a month later it was being canceled if not done with Rachel. Their rigidity and lack of empathy was appalling. Let me preface this by sharing that I have a high pain tolerance -- I've fractured my hip during military service and have tolerated Opus treatments in the past without flinching; yet, the pain of this procedure was infinitely worse than both of those combined or any surgery I've had. It felt like someone was literally burning off my armpits for over an hour. Between that and the endless injections that wound up being futile, I have never cursed so much in my entire life in one sitting. Nothing Rachel attempted helped with pain management, and my clear distress was minimized and ignored after I recounted the experience to her and the staff. If both Rachel and Rhonda are supposedly qualified to perform this procedure, why refuse my simple, reasonable request to switch providers for the second round of treatments? Had I known they would be so inflexible and dismissive of my well-being, I never would have chosen Oak Dermatology. Now, I have to spend several thousand more dollars to do the procedure anew elsewhere, since the discounted second treatment is non-transferable wherever I go next. All of the associates were wearing masks. I had to fill out some new paperwork and snagged a seat. I was literally the only person in the entire waiting room and I didn't even get to finish the papers because I was called for my appointment! Usually I'm used to waiting a few minutes for appointments but not here; I was taken back to my room right away. I was a little nervous for this appointment because I made it to get a mole removed on my back. I was told the process would be painless but anything with any needles (even momentary for numbing) scares me. Kristin, one of the Physician Assistants here was incredible. She was so friendly and easy to have conversation with. She walked me through the process of the mole removal and by the time she was done talking I didn't even know it was finished!!! I was so so happily surprised with how painless this experience actually was. She gave me some Polysporin ointment for the biopsy area and some advice for care. After the small procedure, I went to the desk to check out and finish my papers. I even had two associates helping me at once- how cool is that? One took my card for payment and the other was scheduling my next appointment. The fastest appointment I've ever been to in my life ha! I've been to Dr Kovak many times for different issues, but the first time was to get rid of the…read moreappearance of veins under my eyes and few spider veins on my face that occurred as a result of waxing away that peach fuzz (eye veins unrelated). Dr Kovak is very compassionate and reasonable with the prices. I paid far more at a random laser center when I received a treatment for over 150 that did nothing where as Dr. Kovak zapped the tiny area for basically nothing after doing my under eye area which was very reasonable. I had done fillers from another doc long before I knew Dr Kovak and it wasn't a good experience for me, Dr Kovak is someone I've come to trust. That previous doctor was giving me vitrase in order to dissolve the product that migrated to above and below my lips and used a bit of steriod in the mix for the nodules I developed and it cause a dent/indentation or atrophy in my upper lip that looked pretty bad. So I went back to Dr Kovak to help fix the issue. I did my own research into successful treatments for atrophy and came across many studies on saline injections that reverse the atrophy over time by diluting the steriod crystals that prevent the fat tissue from regenerating. Dr. Kovak was concerned that I had steriod put in my face and he said you may need filler to fill the area because it may be permanent but he would be willing to try the saline injections first that I asked about... he suggested 3 times once a month. The studies I read they used a protocol of 1 time a week 4 to 6 times and when I mentioned that to Dr the next time I saw him and He said okay! Let's do it! He clearly cares about and listens to his patients and he doesn't have that large ego you're used to seeing with very successful Drs like him. I love this man, we need more Drs like him in the world. So far, I've had 3 saline injections and the indentation is getting less and less. The dr noticed it changing too. I am blessed to have found him. I saw a review that compared oak brook terrace to villa Park and she sounds sad. Hopefully she gets help with that delusion and finds a dr that's more her vibration and I don't envy that person. Thank you Dr Kovak, I'll only come to you when I try for fillers again. So blessed to have found you.

Dr. Kovak agreed to send in Rx to Walgreens. Upon leaving appointment, Sandy Kovak told me there was a $100 Fee for Writing a Prescription. Then she told me it was a Consultation Fee which contradicted what I was told when making the appointment (Office Visit). This was never disclosed nor stated when I inquired about the costs when making the appointment nor during the exam. It is unusual and improper for a doctor's office to charge a separate $100 prescription fee on top of an office visit charge, especially if it was not disclosed upfront. A prescription is generally considered part of the treatment included in the cost of the office visit. I have asked for this charge to be reversed and to have Dr. Kovak return my call.
