I am thrilled to have a new, locally owned coffee shop in Montevallo. Welcome, you are exactly what we need. The physical space is super cute. The outside is clean and inviting with an abundance of seating, including umbrellas for those hot Alabama days. They did a great job with the painting and landscaping which make it a cool hangout. The inside is just as cute with plenty of seating- a mix of comfy chairs, a couch, and several wooden tables and chairs. I visited the day after opening day, so there were still some kinks being worked out, but I am excited about the potential. They offer the standard mix of lattes, cappuccino, espresso, coffee, and hot tea, as well as pastries, sandwiches, and soup. I ordered a cappuccino and it was exactly as it should be. I did not order any food, but I will definitely return to try some of their seemingly decadent sweets. I was surely tempted by the cannoli staring me down through the glass case, as well as the locally applauded strawberry cake which is so large one slice can feed multiple people. (Yes, the owner is part of the well-known Bertolone family who have made their mark on the local food scene). As such, they also offer some pasta selections in the refrigerator that you can purchase to heat at home. This is a great place to escape, grab a sandwich, and reflect on life or get your latest caffeine fix while socializing with a friend, partner, or group of people. Color me impressed! My bf is from Alabaster and grew up going to Joe's Italian. He was sad to learn when the original owners sold the business, but they then opened up Cake Art in Pelham. We would go there for fine Italian dishes and desserts. While there, we heard that Cynthia was opening up a coffee shop in Montevallo and we just had to visit. Upon arrival, I was impressed with the building itself- white and cottage like, I felt like I was near the beach. We went inside and I immediately felt like home. They have a very colorful piano right when you walk in that was very cool. The rooms were quaint with modern touches and finishes. Plenty of seating inside and out and many different rooms. We went to get coffee and I saw sandwiches that I'm not sure they carry at the other place. We had to have some! I ordered the vegetarian Portabello mushroom panini and a iced chai latte. I picked up some scones (blueberry and chocolate chip) and pasta salad as a side. OH MAN. The sandwich was hot and amazing! Tasted so fresh and huge. So much bigger than regular sandwiches at chain sandwich places. And a decent price to. The pasta salad was amazing, and the scones were delicious. My coffee was good too! My bf loved everything as well! We were thoroughly impressed. My only complaint was the music. We were sitting and waiting for food and we would've loved to stay inside and talk or come back to do work, but the music was so loud throughout the building that we couldn't comfortably talk to each other while sitting together. I had to wait for my teenage daughter for over 4 hrs due to a function she was attending so I looked up coffee shops and C's cakes and coffee popped up so I popped in. I have to say it's a very cute and comfortable place. I had breakfast with a drink then a coffee a little bit later. Good food and drinks for sure. The best part was they didn't mind me hanging out for as long as I did. The staff are really friendly! I will definitely come back on my next trip to Montevallo! read more
